Reasons why I'm able to justify the Pettigrew ranking: #1 - Pettigrew was the only one who truly immersed himself in the dark arts- exploring an entire other side of the magical spectrum #2 - Pettigrew was the only one who knew conjuration - an advanced form of transfiguration #3 - Pettigrew was capable of producing a blasting curse that could destroy HUNDREDS of feet of sewer system #4 - Pettigrew was extremely successful at brewing HIGHLY complicated potions like the Regeneration Potion, Polyjuice Potion etc. #5 - Pettigrew showed extreme wand versatility, and was able to use any and all wands that he gained possession of, despite not winning the wand's allegiance #6 - Peter was able to stay in his Animagus form for TWELVE years #7 - Peter was extremely skilled at using the unforgivable curses, which are not easy to use at all Also: -James died young, meaning he never truly tapped in to his full potential (also James dying to Voldemort wasn't my justification for his placement, yes..ANYONE would have died to Voldemort) -Sirius was imprisoned for a large portion of his life -Remus didn't have the same knowledge of transfiguration Yes, Peter was weak in his younger days, but as he got older he became a very powerful wizard. He shouldn't have been too much more powerful after his school days as he spent 12 years as a rat, he didn't exactly have time to practice and get better did he? Any feats performed after that were under the aid of much stronger wizards.

This is the ranking of the Mauraders and since it basically ended with the death of James they should be ranked based on that point in time. That would put Pettigrew as #4.
No it shouldn’t. That’s stupid. You rank things based off of what they did in life. Pettigrew lived far longer and has better feats. James dying has no impact on this. You can’t rank Pettigrew lower as a result when he has the better feats. I agree that James would’ve been stronger had he reached the same age, but he didn’t. Comparing peak and peak, James is weaker.
The ranking should be: 1. James Potter-Died young but was also one of few people who survived an encounter with Voldemort, we don't read about it but it was stated in the books and he was extremely talented. 2. Sirius Black-Was extremely talented like James and was capable of going toe to toe with any death eater including Bellatrix who only killed him by hitting him while he was distracted. 3. Remus Lupin-Prefect in his day and the best DADA Harry ever had. He knew his stuff and common cures for what he dealt with. 4. Peter Pettigrew-yes he dealt in the dark arts and yes he knew enough about potions and spells but he had no confidence, no courage, and even Voldemort held him with no esteem. The thing with the potions though is that even though he made these strong potions, with the right help anyone can. Neville was able to correct every failed potion (his worse subject) with just Hermione whispering in his ear. Wormtail did have Voldemort who was extremely proficient in everything.

I wouldn't rank Peter ahead of Sirius. Take into consideration that for 12 years Sirius was able not ro lose his mind from dementors in Azkaban. He had to be using some source of powerful magic for that. Plus, there's no evidence Sirius wasn't taught dark magic by his family but chose not to use it.
Peter should not be included. Total opposite of what his friends were: Weak, naive in studies, betrayer. He doesn't even come under any houses of Hogwarts.
Dude if peter wasn’t a coward he would be hella powerful he literally mastered multiple spells and curses and was able to use a spell killing multiple people destroy the surrounding area and was able to fake his death use transfiguration. Probably an unpopular opinion but I believe that Remus should be #1 because although you don't see any amazing magical feats from him he was probably more than capable he was extremely studious with a vast knowledge of magic he was the only one to survive to adulthood without restrictions on his magic and could use it freely for the 12 years that Sirius was incarcerated and Peter in his animagus form unable to practice or hone or grow his magic, and although he would have been reluctant to cast dark arts does not mean he had no knowledge of it and be able to defend against it as is the whole point of defense against the dark arts, also I'm willing to bet if push came to shove he probably could have performed dark arts to some degree and most likely could have brewed the complex potions Peter did, and in a one to one duel I'm pretty sure he could have beaten the two surviving marauders if he did not hold back as not using magic still would have affected both Sirius and Peter to an extent, though they were still both pretty powerful in their own regard you can't stop going to the gym for twelve years and go back one day and be able to bench press exactly as you did twelve years ago without having to build up again, where as Remus never had that issue, and you may argue he didn't have need to practice defense anymore, I would argue that Remus was extremely studious and I don't think he would have stopped in his spare time, it might not have been intensive and fighting for his life but it was still more than nothing. #2 I would say is Sirius, I know Peter is powerful in his own right but as far as an honest duel would go, I think Peter would still lose to Sirius, Sirius was already very powerful as a young man alongside James and had to help Peter to become and animagus and as far as conjuration goes I'm pretty sure all of the marauders could conjure at least birds by the time they left Hogwarts, again just because it isn't shown doesn't mean he was the only person capable and considering they all took their newts and noone ever said about how amazingly better Peter performed than his friends I think it's safe to assume he was either on par or lower grade than them and I'm sure conjuration would have come up in the exams so that is really not a great argument, and just because Sirius wasn't the one to blow up half a street doesn't mean he wasn't capable, it doesn't even have to be a dark curse I'm pretty sure a bombarda Maxima could have done the job for Sirius, just being a coward doesn't affect power, correct, but it does affect performance and ability to fight and as a whole we never witness Peter fight so seeing a one to one duel would be impossible but as a whole it would require casting and finesse I don't believe Peter capable of, and I'm sure if Sirius was faced with casting the same spells as bought up in defense of Peter being more powerful he could most likely do it and do it faster and with better results, like I said just because one person was mentioned doing it does not mean another was not capable, would you say Peter is stronger than Dumbledore based on the fact that Dumbledore didn't blow up a Street and because we don't know whether he was an animagus or not as it was never confirmed or denied, you have to use your intelligence and deduction skills to include more than what is written or that limits you just like Hermione not believing in the deathly hallows as there was no concrete evidence #3 Peter, I think I covered more or less why Peter is Below Remus and Sirius quite extensively above, and I'd like to add that although Peter knew darks arts there probably wasn't a death eater that couldn't defeat him which is quite telling really, and if there was one then fair enough but he's not exactly up there when it comes to magical power even with knowledge and ability to cast the dark arts. Putting aside that he's a traitor and a coward I just don't think he had the skill to beat out his best friend's in a test of actual power whether they all perform dark arts or not, again just because someone chooses not too do something doesn't mean they can't do it #4 James, unfortunately we cannot compare James in anyway and I would be unfair to do so based on the others growth as I'm sure he would still be first or second had he not been murdered, he died young and therefore we cannot guess how he would've held up in a duel as we do not know how he would've been affected, if he had grown normally and had not died and the others circumstances had remained the same he would be ranked as number one, but there's no way to predict what could have happened and in an ideal storyline where nothing happened to any of the friends then Peter would probably be under this rank and James and Sirius fighting for first constantly, it's all speculation, but when James died so did his potential for growth of I'm pretty sure if you put him up against the other three there can't be a winner or a loser when one opponent is deceased so unfair to rank him at all, and if you were to rank them up until the age James passed away the ranking would certainly be different. Sorry that went on a bit 😂 Edit: also James and Lily did both defy Voldemort thrice according to the prophecy which is no small feat as I'm sure it meant personally defied him not indirectly for him to make the link to Harry being his possible downfall, which means they escaped him alive which is no small feat and had they both had their wands on them when Voldemort came to call there is the great possibility they could have escaped again, I think it was a significant choice on J.K Rowling's part to have them both wandless when Voldemort arrived to kill them otherwise escaping was probably a more likely possibility and there would've been no 'Harry Potter the Boy who Lived', which just shows James' power as I doubt Peter would have been able to escape even once, and he probably doubted it too because if he wasn't tempted by the power he would have been too afraid to refuse knowing he had no chance of escape like James and Lily, if you want to look at it from that angle, that's not a feat any of the other Marauders achieved and would put James as most powerful along with Lily for doing what most people were incapable of doing even once and they did it thrice.
Sirius' small toe was more competent than Peter. Remus was probably quite powerful to be wanted by Voldemort, he also had to endure a transformation every month that broke all his bone yet he still managed to learn magic even becoming a perfect.
Out of the 4 choices though Lupin was the obvious choice of Prefect from the Gryffindor House. Though, yes, he didn't continue on for Head Boy, that was given to James.
James Potter is such a misunderstood character. Fans just hate on him and claim that he’s just an asshole that bullied Snape (which he was) but he grew out of it and became a good man. Not to mention he joined the Order of the Phoenix almost immediately after leaving hogwarts and died at age 21 protecting his wife and son. But people still say he’s just a bully and Snape is a tragic selfless hero. 🤦♂️⚡️
Sirius survived 12 years in the worst prison in the world and came out of it totally sane.... even after not being able to use magic for 12 years he was able to duel with the toughest wizards and only died because he was laughing. Gotta give the top spot to him for his mental stability in Azkaban along with his ability to keep up with the magic ability of his peers after 12 years with no practice!
It is hard to compare the marauders because James died at twenty one, Sirius was imprisoned at twenty one. Remus was hampered by his werewolf condition and even Peter spent much of his time.as Scanners. Peter had the advantage that her learned from the most powerful wizard.- Lord Voldemort. It seems that as wizards go through life they tend to keep adding to their abilities. James was only four years out of Hogwarts when he lost his life at twenty one. At this age Sirius Black was imprisoned at Azkaban. Not only was there not trial there was no interrogation from the accounts I've read.

As cliché as it gets 1. Sirius Black - Would hold his own against anyone except for Dumbledore and Voldemort in a duel, even after his time in Azkaban. Just like James, not really killed fairly. That puts him above Lupin. Lupin was not just being modest or hyping up his friends when he said James and Sirius were the best at everything they did. 2. Remus Lupin - Good all around, not extraordinary but very good. Ahead of James because he was able to grow older. 3. James Potter - He toyed with Snape, and Sirius wasn’t even helping that time in Snape’s worst memory. Basically could’ve done whatever he wanted. When he died, it was when he and Lily assumed the loyalty of who they thought to be their friend, Peter Pettigrew and so they were caught without their wands. But since he died early, he never really got to his peak. Even 15 year old James probably would’ve toyed with peak Pettigrew in a duel and reasonably powerful wizards would have feared him if it was a 1v1 duel by the time he was 21. If he was able to grow up, he’d be #1 for sure. 4. Peter Pettigrew - Useless piece of crap who hid behind everyone stronger than him, was able to become an animagus because he was carried by James and Sirius.

I personally think the ranking could of gone either way but I had to point out that Remus was proficient in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Its been said through the series across all school years he was one of or the best DADA professor they had for a while. Even Madam Pomfrey was impressed with him saying he knows his stuff in DADA after giving the students chocolates after the Dementor attack. The other Marauders definitely beat him in Transfiguration.

It should have been: Sirius Remus James Peter Sirius was more outspoken than Remus and was very skilled, he also survived 12 years in Azkaban and was still the best godfather harry needed and could ever have right after he got free. Don't forget Pettigrew spent 12 years hiding as a tiny rat scurrying away from his problems, Sirius remained loyal to Remus and Harry and didn't go mad while in azkaban. He was very strong.
"James died quite young" well James was the ONLY ONE apart from Lily to actually face Voldemort at his peak. Wormtail immediately defected when some death eaters threatened him, he didn't even face Voldemort until he became his servant. Excellent list. Peter was always underrated and underestimated. The only thing that kept him from betraying the Potters is that his underestimated status which I think became his weak point as perhaps his friends had begun to underestimate him making him an easy target for Voldemort.
Hey Sirius was dueling bellatrix 1o1 and fairly in the books, he died cause she was really more powerful, but that doesn't mean he's weak cause like ya know bellatrix

To be honest I'm not sure how I feel about this, I think it would be very hard to rank. They weren't all alive or in combat together at their individual points of highest power at the same time so it leaves a lot of hanging variables, and it really depends on how you look at it.
how does someone who only "accomplished" most everything he ever accomplished under the DIRECT aid of either 3 other extremely talented people or the greatest dark wizard to ever live make the top of this list? his only true feats that are feasible to list are blowing up a sewer (most likely aided by a gas line explosion), staying in animagus form for 12 years, tricking a ministry employee to follow him, and lastly besting Moody with the help of (imo one of the most powerful death eaters alive at the time) Barty Crouch Jr.
My order would be #1 Remus Lupin- he did create the Marauders Map, which can even see people in Invisibility Cloaks, which is a Deathly Hallow. #2 James- He defeated Moldy 3 times before dying unarmed #3 Sirius- He was a brilliant Wizard and he knew a lot of dark magic spells as he grew up around em. #4 Peter- He was called Ungifted by McGonagall and was always tutored by either James or Remus or Sirius..
I can’t disagree with your magical power opinion, but for me power isn’t just about magical, it’s mental too and for me lupin and black showed strength that far surpasses wormtail being able to live within the light and fight for good when so many have wronged him for being a wear wolf and for being in Azkaban for 12 years while the real traitor and murderer was living as a pet.
I feel it's not possible to have a fair comparison between them due to their very different circumstances (like James dying young). I don't get why many rank Sirius and Remus above James when we're told James and Sirius were about equal in talent/power. There's nothing on text showing James as inferior to them in power.

My list: 1: Remus Lupin 2: Sirius Black 3: James Potter 4: Peter Pettigrew I don't put Pettigrew last because he is evil but, because he has always been a pathetic coward. Never a leader, but always a follower. Never standing up but always just being on the side that would keep him safe.
People complaining about Peter's ranking need to go back and read the books. Appearance and attitude doesn't always represent your abilities, In Wormtail's case his groveling and " timid " nature was just a cover, something he proved multiple times. I 100% agree with this list.
People asking others to read the books themselves need to read the books. Peter Pettigrew is no 3 because of the things that are above all in the wizarding world, that is because he does not LOVE his friends and isn't loyal to them. Whereas Remus, Sirius and James are known to have loved their friends and that too, to an extent that they could never even think of doing anything that could cause the them any harm. Why Remus is number 1? Because he has a calm and composed mind set, huge arsenal of DADA skills, aggression of a werewolf which he can use if need be, and him trusting Dumbledore. Why Sirius number 2? Because surviving and breaking out of Askaban is no petty thing at all. His love for his friends, godson and his eagerness to be out there, fighting along with his friends and not leaving them alone is what makes him superior! Sirius and Remus would probably be almost on the same level, but I think Remus has an upper hand. James is also quite powerful, but there are not many instances where he's proven himself apart from quidditch. (I know that he was head boy and he too sacrificed himself for his family, but still.)
There is good evidence to suggest that overpowering magic grows to its heights by the time one has turned 18 or 21 at the latest. Beyond that stage only knowledge can improve. For one, Sirius and Remus stood high and mighty against Pettigrew in POA. For another, Sirius remained extremely powerful despite 13 years of zero development. A final example I’d like to mention is Voldemort asking James personally to join the death eaters while never asking lupin even when lupin grew older and more advanced. There are other bits of evidence to support that, much like physical strength in humans, overpowering force of magic in wizards peaks at young adulthood and from there only knowledge and cleverness expands. Therefore, I think that neither Pettigrew nor Snape no matter their continued development would be likely to win duels against James Potter (if he had been brought back as on the day of his death) or Sirius Black (right out of Azkaban). Voldemort was similarly already singularly powerful in terms of overpowering force as a young lad.
I disagree with this order. I see your reasoning and it is sound. I would of put sirius as 1, lupin as 2, Potter as 3 , and peter as 4. Petter spent more time hiding behind more powerful wizards and he spent a extremely a lot of a time as a rat that which he would of had him stunted in training and power.
We all know that if these four had to duel one another one on on, Peter is going 0-3. The others likely come down to whether the talents of James and Sirius can take down the smarts of Lupin.
I see your point from the video and comments, this video is about their peak and since James died young he never got to his peak and Sirius was in prison so he could not train and get better and Remus pretty much laid low not doing much. I know these rankings are kind of frivolous in nature, but I do think there is put way too much emphasis on who killed who when most of the time it wasn't even in a duel. Sometimes luck or the lack of it is the deciding factor who is to live and who to die in a battle situation.

POTTER - Main reason is cause he was never really explored on so the lack of info is actually really hard for me to rank, but i know he is an amazing duelist and a very good potions master. PETTIGREW - the thing that got him here is his cleverness and wits, he sucessfully tricked sirius, held his animagus form for 12 years. but that does not justify him for being in that spot. He got there because he was succesful in the dark arts, which is a very powerful form of magic, which also does not mean the most powerful. and he was a excuse of a man. SIRIUS BLACK - He can do what ever they can do (except for being werewolf). he may have been locked up for years but he is still very powerful. the fact that pettigrew fleed from sirius was another sign even pettigrew knew he was much more powerful. the potters even trusted him of where they were hiding cause they knew he was a accomplished occumence. he is smart and wise and can face numerous death eaters at the same time he was the first to break out of azkaban. Sirius and Remus are at the top no matter what. Sirius was able to avoid the dementors for several years despite living a very difficult life in which his family abandoned him. He also managed to evade some of the strongest Aurors of all time including Mad Eye moody. Remus on top of being highly skilled at DADA, was well versed in charms. His strongest quality is also his weakest link which is being a werewolf. The only reason Voldemort dispatched of James easily is because James DIDNT HAVE HIS WAND. There is a reason that James was sought after by Voldemort and lived to tell the tale after denying him 3 TIMES. Peter Pettigrew by far is the weakest. The only time he showed any semblance of power was an accident. He was easily disarmed and could’ve been finished by Harry, Sirius, and Remus all by himself. The only reason he beat Sirius that night in the alley was because Sirius was distraught because he had not only lost his best friend and and his wife but also found out that the reason that they died was because of his other best friend. This list is a disservice to every member of the marauders.

James died while facing voldemort without his wand. So does dying at a young age like that where he was not defeated but killed because he was not given a chance to duel with the dark lord said to be his weakness.
I feel james and sirius were close to enough to be called fred and George of their time, they were almost like twins and I feel they should be literally ranked together at one position as their magical provess is the same. And remus may be behind them or ahead of them on the list but definitely peter is last 🙃
James died at the hand of Voldemort. There are very few who managed to escape Voldemort fighting on on one so his death is hardly a negative point on his abilities. And just being immersed into dark arts doesn't make you a more powerful wizard. The order members rarely used the unforgivable curses or curses of mass destructions. They held back most of the time, which is why many a times the death eaters prevailed. So saying that Wormtail was more powerful than the rest of the Marauders is way big of a stretch.
What are the odds that Voldemort caught James by surprise and killed him from behind? Especially when taking into account Peter's betrayal. Pettigrew is way higher on here than he should be. Peter, most likely rode on the coattails of the others to get by and became an animagus only after all the others helped him to do it. He's not shown that kind of power that you give him.
The title of the video says most powerful, so you should've considered putting them face to face in a duel against each other. Peter had many chances throughout his life to kill Sirius but he couldn't. And that is saying something. Peter might be ahead in dark arts but when faced against each other, he wouldn't stand a chance in front of Sirius. I respectfully disagree with your order. While I understand why you selected it I just don’t agree. Even the Pettigrew was immersed within the dark arts he still innately was not powerful. The bulk of his expertise and talent came from the fact that he had the people around him either doing things for him or showing him exactly what he needed to do step-by-step.

As younger men James and Sirius were the most powerful and had they lived and developed their magic further they would have been the most powerful. Because James died early his magic never fully developed. Sirius's magical development was stopped when he went to Azkaban. Remus was happened by being a werewolf. Peter lived longer and embraced dark magic.
I can see the logic used, but it's a little flawed. It's unfair to say that because James died young that he was third ranked, as he died wandless when he faced Voldemort. Not to mention, he "thrice defied the Dark Lord", which implies he had faced Voldemort three times, and yet managed to escape him those three times. If he had his wand on him the night Voldemort killed him, he might have been able to put up a fight. You're right in saying that because Pettigrew being involved in brewing the Polyjuice potion and the body potion for Voldemort would add to his knowledge/power, but I don't think this would count for too much. For one, Barty Crouch Jr and Voldemort would have both been assisting him and probably even directing him on how to brew both potions (akin to when Hermione helped Neville correct his potion before Snape tested it on Trevor). So I wouldn't put much stock in Pettigrew's potion knowledge unless we can see him single-handedly doing so. Being able to stay in his Animagus form for 12 years would have been impressive, but then you could say the same for Sirius staying in his Animagus form whilst swimming across a cold and choppy sea to shore, which most humans can't do, while near starving. So to have the mental fortitude to keep swimming whilst maintaining the concentration to keep an Animagus form would put Sirius on par with Pettigrew, and mental fortitude is pretty key to a lot of magic in the Potter world. Sirius also only died in the books because he lost his balance and fell backwards into the Veil, which I think is an unfair metric to determine he wasn't a powerful wizard. Lastly, Remus was incredibly skilled in magic, to the point where he was the most effective DADA teacher Hogwarts had in Harry's tenure. He didn't just have knowledge in DADA either, as I think to be effective in DADA, you need at least a good knowledge of the other magical disciplines to be able to use DADA magic. He also had the ability to produce a full corporeal Patronus (which he suppressed as he didn't want people know guess he was a werewolf based on his Patronus' form) - being able to summon a corporeal Patronus is rare in the wizarding world, to the point where Harry was given an immediate E in DADA when he demonstrated to an exam invigilator that he could summon one. The only reason Remus died in the battle of Hogwarts was because he spent so long practicing defensive magic to protect himself and Tonks that his offensive skills had lapsed. Personally, I think Remus or Sirius should have taken the top spot. I agree that James would probably be lower down the list since he didn't get to display his full powers in the story, but I don't think Pettigrew would have been near the top. He just had too much help to be considered powerful under his own steam, just powerful by proxy.

I disagree in terms of power we only see Peter get beat when it comes to dueling. I say the fact that Sirius was in Azkaban for that long and is capable of fighting off death eaters with that handicap of not having been a wizard just goes to show how even without tapping into that 12 years of prison he'd probably beat peter in a duel. Remus I can only say I feel that he is stronger in my heart lol. However I would say that the biggest problem I have is that it's framed as strongest which makes me think of dueling. Yes potion crafting and magical ability means he is a gifted wizard and probably the best wizard of them all, but I don't think he could out duel Remus or Sirius so that would make them stronger.

Reasons why I'm able to justify the Pettigrew ranking:
#1 - Pettigrew was the only one who truly immersed himself in the dark arts- exploring an entire other side of the magical spectrum
#2 - Pettigrew was the only one who knew conjuration - an advanced form of transfiguration
#3 - Pettigrew was capable of producing a blasting curse that could destroy HUNDREDS of feet of sewer system
#4 - Pettigrew was extremely successful at brewing HIGHLY complicated potions like the Regeneration Potion, Polyjuice Potion etc.
#5 - Pettigrew showed extreme wand versatility, and was able to use any and all wands that he gained possession of, despite not winning the wand's allegiance
#6 - Peter was able to stay in his Animagus form for TWELVE years
#7 - Peter was extremely skilled at using the unforgivable curses, which are not easy to use at all

The ranking should be:
1. James Potter-Died young but was also one of few people who survived an encounter with Voldemort, we don't read about it but it was stated in the books and he was extremely talented.
2. Sirius Black-Was extremely talented like James and was capable of going toe to toe with any death eater including Bellatrix who only killed him by hitting him while he was distracted.
3. Remus Lupin-Prefect in his day and the best DADA Harry ever had. He knew his stuff and common cures for what he dealt with.
4. Peter Pettigrew-yes he dealt in the dark arts and yes he knew enough about potions and spells but he had no confidence, no courage, and even Voldemort held him with no esteem. The thing with the potions though is that even though he made these strong potions, with the right help anyone can. Neville was able to correct every failed potion (his worse subject) with just Hermione whispering in his ear. Wormtail did have Voldemort who was extremely proficient in everything.

I wouldn't rank Peter ahead of Sirius. Take into consideration that for 12 years Sirius was able not ro lose his mind from dementors in Azkaban. He had to be using some source of powerful magic for that. Plus, there's no evidence Sirius wasn't taught dark magic by his family but chose not to use it.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I believe that Remus should be #1 because although you don't see any amazing magical feats from him he was probably more than capable he was extremely studious with a vast knowledge of magic he was the only one to survive to adulthood without restrictions on his magic and could use it freely for the 12 years that Sirius was incarcerated and Peter in his animagus form unable to practice or hone or grow his magic, and although he would have been reluctant to cast dark arts does not mean he had no knowledge of it and be able to defend against it as is the whole point of defense against the dark arts, also I'm willing to bet if push came to shove he probably could have performed dark arts to some degree and most likely could have brewed the complex potions Peter did, and in a one to one duel I'm pretty sure he could have beaten the two surviving marauders if he did not hold back as not using magic still would have affected both Sirius and Peter to an extent, though they were still both pretty powerful in their own regard you can't stop going to the gym for twelve years and go back one day and be able to bench press exactly as you did twelve years ago without having to build up again, where as Remus never had that issue, and you may argue he didn't have need to practice defense anymore, I would argue that Remus was extremely studious and I don't think he would have stopped in his spare time, it might not have been intensive and fighting for his life but it was still more than nothing.
#2 I would say is Sirius, I know Peter is powerful in his own right but as far as an honest duel would go, I think Peter would still lose to Sirius, Sirius was already very powerful as a young man alongside James and had to help Peter to become and animagus and as far as conjuration goes I'm pretty sure all of the marauders could conjure at least birds by the time they left Hogwarts, again just because it isn't shown doesn't mean he was the only person capable and considering they all took their newts and noone ever said about how amazingly better Peter performed than his friends I think it's safe to assume he was either on par or lower grade than them and I'm sure conjuration would have come up in the exams so that is really not a great argument, and just because Sirius wasn't the one to blow up half a street doesn't mean he wasn't capable, it doesn't even have to be a dark curse I'm pretty sure a bombarda Maxima could have done the job for Sirius, just being a coward doesn't affect power, correct, but it does affect performance and ability to fight and as a whole we never witness Peter fight so seeing a one to one duel would be impossible but as a whole it would require casting and finesse I don't believe Peter capable of, and I'm sure if Sirius was faced with casting the same spells as bought up in defense of Peter being more powerful he could most likely do it and do it faster and with better results, like I said just because one person was mentioned doing it does not mean another was not capable, would you say Peter is stronger than Dumbledore based on the fact that Dumbledore didn't blow up a Street and because we don't know whether he was an animagus or not as it was never confirmed or denied, you have to use your intelligence and deduction skills to include more than what is written or that limits you just like Hermione not believing in the deathly hallows as there was no concrete evidence
#3 Peter, I think I covered more or less why Peter is Below Remus and Sirius quite extensively above, and I'd like to add that although Peter knew darks arts there probably wasn't a death eater that couldn't defeat him which is quite telling really, and if there was one then fair enough but he's not exactly up there when it comes to magical power even with knowledge and ability to cast the dark arts. Putting aside that he's a traitor and a coward I just don't think he had the skill to beat out his best friend's in a test of actual power whether they all perform dark arts or not, again just because someone chooses not too do something doesn't mean they can't do it
#4 James, unfortunately we cannot compare James in anyway and I would be unfair to do so based on the others growth as I'm sure he would still be first or second had he not been murdered, he died young and therefore we cannot guess how he would've held up in a duel as we do not know how he would've been affected, if he had grown normally and had not died and the others circumstances had remained the same he would be ranked as number one, but there's no way to predict what could have happened and in an ideal storyline where nothing happened to any of the friends then Peter would probably be under this rank and James and Sirius fighting for first constantly, it's all speculation, but when James died so did his potential for growth of I'm pretty sure if you put him up against the other three there can't be a winner or a loser when one opponent is deceased so unfair to rank him at all, and if you were to rank them up until the age James passed away the ranking would certainly be different.

Edit: also James and Lily did both defy Voldemort thrice according to the prophecy which is no small feat as I'm sure it meant personally defied him not indirectly for him to make the link to Harry being his possible downfall, which means they escaped him alive which is no small feat and had they both had their wands on them when Voldemort came to call there is the great possibility they could have escaped again, I think it was a significant choice on J.K Rowling's part to have them both wandless when Voldemort arrived to kill them otherwise escaping was probably a more likely possibility and there would've been no 'Harry Potter the Boy who Lived', which just shows James' power as I doubt Peter would have been able to escape even once, and he probably doubted it too because if he wasn't tempted by the power he would have been too afraid to refuse knowing he had no chance of escape like James and Lily, if you want to look at it from that angle, that's not a feat any of the other Marauders achieved and would put James as most powerful along with Lily for doing what most people were incapable of doing even once and they did it thrice.

Sirius' small toe was more competent than Peter. Remus was probably quite powerful to be wanted by Voldemort, he also had to endure a transformation every month that broke all his bone yet he still managed to learn magic even becoming a perfect.
Out of the 4 choices though Lupin was the obvious choice of Prefect from the Gryffindor House. Though, yes, he didn't continue on for Head Boy, that was given to James.
James Potter is such a misunderstood character. Fans just hate on him and claim that he’s just an asshole that bullied Snape (which he was) but he grew out of it and became a good man. Not to mention he joined the Order of the Phoenix almost immediately after leaving hogwarts and died at age 21 protecting his wife and son. But people still say he’s just a bully and Snape is a tragic selfless hero. 🤦♂️⚡️

Sirius survived 12 years in the worst prison in the world and came out of it totally sane.... even after not being able to use magic for 12 years he was able to duel with the toughest wizards and only died because he was laughing. It is hard to compare the marauders because James died at twenty one, Sirius was imprisoned at twenty one. Remus was hampered by his werewolf condition and even Peter spent much of his time.as Scanners.

It seems that as wizards go through life they tend to keep adding to their abilities. James was only four years out of Hogwarts when he lost his life at twenty one. At this age Sirius Black was imprisoned at Azkaban. Not only was there not trial there was no interrogation from the accounts I've read.

As cliché as it gets
1. Sirius Black - Would hold his own against anyone except for Dumbledore and Voldemort in a duel, even after his time in Azkaban. Just like James, not really killed fairly. That puts him above Lupin. Lupin was not just being modest or hyping up his friends when he said James and Sirius were the best at everything they did.
2. Remus Lupin - Good all around, not extraordinary but very good. Ahead of James because he was able to grow older.
3. James Potter - He toyed with Snape, and Sirius wasn’t even helping that time in Snape’s worst memory. Basically could’ve done whatever he wanted. When he died, it was when he and Lily assumed the loyalty of who they thought to be their friend, Peter Pettigrew and so they were caught without their wands. But since he died early, he never really got to his peak. Even 15 year old James probably would’ve toyed with peak Pettigrew in a duel and reasonably powerful wizards would have feared him if it was a 1v1 duel by the time he was 21. If he was able to grow up, he’d be #1 for sure.
4. Peter Pettigrew - Useless piece of crap who hid behind everyone stronger than him, was able to become an animagus because he was carried by James and Sirius.

Its been said through the series across all school years he was one of or the best DADA professor they had for a while. Even Madam Pomfrey was impressed with him saying he knows his stuff in DADA after giving the students chocolates after the Dementor attack. The other Marauders definitely beat him in Transfiguration.

Excellent list. Peter was always underrated and underestimated. The only thing that kept him from betraying the Potters is that his underestimated status which I think became his weak point as perhaps his friends had begun to underestimate him making him an easy target for Voldemort.

how does someone who only "accomplished" most everything he ever accomplished under the DIRECT aid of either 3 other extremely talented people or the greatest dark wizard to ever live make the top of this list? his only true feats that are feasible to list are blowing up a sewer (most likely aided by a gas line explosion), staying in animagus form for 12 years, tricking a ministry employee to follow him, and lastly besting Moody with the help of (imo one of the most powerful death eaters alive at the time) Barty Crouch Jr.

#1 Remus Lupin- he did create the Marauders Map, which can even see people in Invisibility Cloaks, which is a Deathly Hallow.

I can’t disagree with your magical power opinion, but for me power isn’t just about magical, it’s mental too and for me lupin and black showed strength that far surpasses wormtail being able to live within the light and fight for good when so many have wronged him for being a wear wolf and for being in Azkaban for 12 years while the real traitor and murderer was living as a pet.

People complaining about Peter's ranking need to go back and read the books. Appearance and attitude doesn't always represent your abilities, In Wormtail's case his groveling and " timid " nature was just a cover, something he proved multiple times. I 100% agree with this list.

Peter Pettigrew is no 3 because of the things that are above all in the wizarding world, that is because he does not LOVE his friends and isn't loyal to them. Whereas Remus, Sirius and James are known to have loved their friends and that too, to an extent that they could never even think of doing anything that could cause the them any harm.
Why Remus is number 1? Because he has a calm and composed mind set, huge arsenal of DADA skills, aggression of a werewolf which he can use if need be, and him trusting Dumbledore.
Why Sirius number 2? Because surviving and breaking out of Askaban is no petty thing at all. His love for his friends, godson and his eagerness to be out there, fighting along with his friends and not leaving them alone is what makes him superior!
Sirius and Remus would probably be almost on the same level, but I think Remus has an upper hand. James is also quite powerful, but there are not many instances where he's proven himself apart from quidditch. (I know that he was head boy and he too sacrificed himself for his family, but still.)

There is good evidence to suggest that overpowering magic grows to its heights by the time one has turned 18 or 21 at the latest. Beyond that stage only knowledge can improve. For one, Sirius and Remus stood high and mighty against Pettigrew in POA. For another, Sirius remained extremely powerful despite 13 years of zero development. A final example I’d like to mention is Voldemort asking James personally to join the death eaters while never asking lupin even when lupin grew older and more advanced. There are other bits of evidence to support that, much like physical strength in humans, overpowering force of magic in wizards peaks at young adulthood and from there only knowledge and cleverness expands. Therefore, I think that neither Pettigrew nor Snape no matter their continued development would be likely to win duels against James Potter (if he had been brought back as on the day of his death) or Sirius Black (right out of Azkaban). Voldemort was similarly already singularly powerful in terms of overpowering force as a young lad.
I disagree with this order. I see your reasoning and it is sound. I would of put sirius as 1, lupin as 2, Potter as 3 , and peter as 4. Petter spent more time hiding behind more powerful wizards and he spent a extremely a lot of a time as a rat that which he would of had him stunted in training and power.
We all know that if these four had to duel one another one on on, Peter is going 0-3. The others likely come down to whether the talents of James and Sirius can take down the smarts of Lupin.
I see your point from the video and comments, this video is about their peak and since James died young he never got to his peak and Sirius was in prison so he could not train and get better and Remus pretty much laid low not doing much.
If they all lived longer and did not go to prison the list would be different.

I know these rankings are kind of frivolous in nature, but I do think there is put way too much emphasis on who killed who when most of the time it wasn't even in a duel. Sometimes luck or the lack of it is the deciding factor who is to live and who to die in a battle situation.

Before i start, all im gonna say that they are all very powerful wizards.
POTTER - Main reason is cause he was never really explored on so the lack of info is actually really hard for me to rank, but i know he is an amazing duelist and a very good potions master.
LUPIN - i put him over potter cause he is qualified enough to be a teacher ( dont get me wrong if james would have lived maybe he would be a teacher) but he showed greater feats than potter as well, he took on several death eaters and held his own in the battle of the depafrtment of mysteries and the battle of hogwarts. plus he can successfully cast a patronus charm.
PETTIGREW - the thing that got him here is his cleverness and wits, he sucessfully tricked sirius, held his animagus form for 12 years. but that does not justify him for being in that spot. He got there because he was succesful in the dark arts, which is a very powerful form of magic, which also does not mean the most powerful. and he was a excuse of a man.
SIRIUS BLACK - He can do what ever they can do (except for being werewolf). he may have been locked up for years but he is still very powerful. the fact that pettigrew fleed from sirius was another sign even pettigrew knew he was much more powerful. the potters even trusted him of where they were hiding cause they knew he was a accomplished occumence. he is smart and wise and can face numerous death eaters at the same time he was the first to break out of azkaban. And the only reason he died because it was cheap shot.

Sirius and Remus are at the top no matter what. Sirius was able to avoid the dementors for several years despite living a very difficult life in which his family abandoned him. He also managed to evade some of the strongest Aurors of all time including Mad Eye moody. Remus on top of being highly skilled at DADA, was well versed in charms. His strongest quality is also his weakest link which is being a werewolf. The only reason Voldemort dispatched of James easily is because James DIDNT HAVE HIS WAND. There is a reason that James was sought after by Voldemort and lived to tell the tale after denying him 3 TIMES. Peter Pettigrew by far is the weakest. The only time he showed any semblance of power was an accident. He was easily disarmed and could’ve been finished by Harry, Sirius, and Remus all by himself. The only reason he beat Sirius that night in the alley was because Sirius was distraught because he had not only lost his best friend and and his wife but also found out that the reason that they died was because of his other best friend. This list is a disservice to every member of the marauders.
nah i do agree Pettigrew's knowledge of dark arts is impressive , he wasnt as strong as people like Snape or Voldemort but he was definetly stronger than others
James died while facing voldemort without his wand. So does dying at a young age like that where he was not defeated but killed because he was not given a chance to duel with the dark lord said to be his weakness.
I feel james and sirius were close to enough to be called fred and George of their time, they were almost like twins and I feel they should be literally ranked together at one position as their magical provess is the same. And remus may be behind them or ahead of them on the list but definitely peter is last 🙃
James died at the hand of Voldemort. There are very few who managed to escape Voldemort fighting on on one so his death is hardly a negative point on his abilities. And just being immersed into dark arts doesn't make you a more powerful wizard. The order members rarely used the unforgivable curses or curses of mass destructions. They held back most of the time, which is why many a times the death eaters prevailed. So saying that Wormtail was more powerful than the rest of the Marauders is way big of a stretch.

What are the odds that Voldemort caught James by surprise and killed him from behind? Especially when taking into account Peter's betrayal. Pettigrew is way higher on here than he should be. Peter, most likely rode on the coattails of the others to get by and became an animagus only after all the others helped him to do it. He's not shown that kind of power that you give him.

The title of the video says most powerful, so you should've considered putting them face to face in a duel against each other. Peter had many chances throughout his life to kill Sirius but he couldn't. And that is saying something. Peter might be ahead in dark arts but when faced against each other, he wouldn't stand a chance in front of Sirius. I respectfully disagree with your order. While I understand why you selected it I just don’t agree. Even the Pettigrew was immersed within the dark arts he still innately was not powerful. The bulk of his expertise and talent came from the fact that he had the people around him either doing things for him or showing him exactly what he needed to do step-by-step.

I have good reasons to back this order up.
As younger men James and Sirius were the most powerful and had they lived and developed their magic further they would have been the most powerful. Because James died early his magic never fully developed. Sirius's magical development was stopped when he went to Azkaban. Remus was happened by being a werewolf. Peter lived longer and embraced dark magic.
I can see the logic used, but it's a little flawed.
It's unfair to say that because James died young that he was third ranked, as he died wandless when he faced Voldemort. Not to mention, he "thrice defied the Dark Lord", which implies he had faced Voldemort three times, and yet managed to escape him those three times. If he had his wand on him the night Voldemort killed him, he might have been able to put up a fight.
You're right in saying that because Pettigrew being involved in brewing the Polyjuice potion and the body potion for Voldemort would add to his knowledge/power, but I don't think this would count for too much. For one, Barty Crouch Jr and Voldemort would have both been assisting him and probably even directing him on how to brew both potions (akin to when Hermione helped Neville correct his potion before Snape tested it on Trevor). So I wouldn't put much stock in Pettigrew's potion knowledge unless we can see him single-handedly doing so.
Being able to stay in his Animagus form for 12 years would have been impressive, but then you could say the same for Sirius staying in his Animagus form whilst swimming across a cold and choppy sea to shore, which most humans can't do, while near starving. So to have the mental fortitude to keep swimming whilst maintaining the concentration to keep an Animagus form would put Sirius on par with Pettigrew, and mental fortitude is pretty key to a lot of magic in the Potter world. Sirius also only died in the books because he lost his balance and fell backwards into the Veil, which I think is an unfair metric to determine he wasn't a powerful wizard.
Lastly, Remus was incredibly skilled in magic, to the point where he was the most effective DADA teacher Hogwarts had in Harry's tenure. He didn't just have knowledge in DADA either, as I think to be effective in DADA, you need at least a good knowledge of the other magical disciplines to be able to use DADA magic. He also had the ability to produce a full corporeal Patronus (which he suppressed as he didn't want people know guess he was a werewolf based on his Patronus' form) - being able to summon a corporeal Patronus is rare in the wizarding world, to the point where Harry was given an immediate E in DADA when he demonstrated to an exam invigilator that he could summon one. The only reason Remus died in the battle of Hogwarts was because he spent so long practicing defensive magic to protect himself and Tonks that his offensive skills had lapsed.
Personally, I think Remus or Sirius should have taken the top spot. I agree that James would probably be lower down the list since he didn't get to display his full powers in the story, but I don't think Pettigrew would have been near the top. He just had too much help to be considered powerful under his own steam, just powerful by proxy.
That you dont like him (peter) doesnt mean he wasnt. For example James attacked snape for no reason, lupin spoke with sirius instead of killing peter. They 3 were brave in school, laughing from Snape 4 to 1, peter was smarter. And yes, he was a coward, but powerful

I disagree in terms of power we only see Peter get beat when it comes to dueling.
I say the fact that Sirius was in Azkaban for that long and is capable of fighting off death eaters with that handicap of not having been a wizard just goes to show how even without tapping into that 12 years of prison he'd probably beat peter in a duel.
Remus I can only say I feel that he is stronger in my heart lol.
However I would say that the biggest problem I have is that it's framed as strongest which makes me think of dueling. Yes potion crafting and magical ability means he is a gifted wizard and probably the best wizard of them all, but I don't think he could out duel Remus or Sirius so that would make them stronger.
