Really kind of you. Thank you! I'm super pleased with how that composition turned out as well. Wouldn't have been inspired to create it without the pedal though, so it does play a big part in it all :)
I got my Dark Light like a month or so ago. And it has been WONDERFUL. It just has so much character! So many cool and weird and wonderful tones. It's not your standard reverb, and that's what makes it cool. The Dark Star and the Sunlight are both very quirky, "opinionated" reverbs. They behave almost like their own instruments, rather than like traditional ambient space emulation. And bring them together in one (very beautiful) box unlocks all sorts of possibilities that wouldn't exist with the pedals in isolation. It's floaty, it's sparkly, it's dreamy, it's brooding, it's somber, it's gritty, it's... unlike any pedal I've ever owned.
You say the words I would also say about this pedal. They aren’t just reverbs in the sense they are unique textural instruments wielding reverb as a paintbrush the room be it the canvas. Much like Stefan used them here. Really lovely
Sounds incredible!! If you ever release an album of 'demos' I will be in line to purchase it. You not only demonstrate some of the potential of a pedal, but you have a gift for writing beautiful sounding and uplifting music. The ending swells were gorgeous. Cheers!!!!
Fully agree on the looks of this pedal. The design and print quality is on a completely surreal high level. It looks even better in real life. The details in the print are exquisite. And I’m honored to her you liked the track. Means a lot to me 🙏
Very cool and tasteful sounds. When can we hear your album? 🙃 Your way to create music is inspiring. The pedal is quite ok, but your guitar playing is awesome. So many cool ideas. 😊
I think it's important to not think of Dark Star, Sunlight and hence also Dark Light as a traditional reverb. It's a transformative texture machine. An ambient drone delight. I recommend exploring the 100% wet sounds in this thing. The sounds that carry you away from the traditional transients of a guitar and takes you into swelling symphonic soundscapes. I really think that's where it shines.
Stefan I must know...desert island pedal...this or the mercX. Sorry for the tough question man. Always love your vids. Thank you for the inspiration as always.
Thank you so much! Yeah, basically just used this pedal. I used the OBNE Excess V2 a bit for distortion. But all of the ambience, pitch-shifting, modulation, filter effects etc all come from the Dark Light
You also get way more extensive expression control, more HOLD options and you also get Trails. So definitely more upgrades to it than just stereo spread :)
Yeah! Hook an expression pedal to it, and set it to control the pitch voice in Pitch Mode or Crush Mode and you have yourself a cool lo-fi Whammy effect
It’s two Old Blood reverb pedals in one pedal (Dark Star and Sunlight, hence the name Dark Light). If you’re not familiar with those two pedals, then I recommend you check out my in depth demos of them in my channel :) Both sides have 3 different reverb modes, and some of them can be made into sounding somewhat like a delay, but it’s definitely not your conventional delay tones. You can get cascading slapbacks via the Comb mode on the Light side and you can get dark pad-like sonar echoes via the Delay setting on the Dark side. Hope this helps :) So in short, it’s a textural reverb pedal, but you can coax delay-like sounds from it if you want to
For my son, do I buy a Screen Violence or Dark Light? He's into everything: Tenor Sax (50%), guitar (35%) and piano (15%). I want to keep his interest going towards music (instead of video games). I've got him a Katana 100 MkII and the Boss RC-5 Looper.
Gosh, tough one. All comes down to what your son wants to create and probably also how well-versed he is in the world of pedals. Dark Light is definitely a slightly more complex pedal compared to Screen Violence, and it's also much more experimental in its sounds than Screen Violence.
Hi Stefan! I got the Darklight a while back, and it seems like it has a hard time when there are TRS in stereo pedals behind it… Have you found a workaround for this?
Yeah, there's a bunch of differences. You have multiple routing options in this one. Series Mono, Parallel Mono, mono -> stereo and true stereo. Then you have the Spread control which gives you control over the stereo separation of the two sides for a myriad of sound design options. And the hold switch lets you Hold and sustain the two sides at the same time, or individually, or switch between them, depending on how you set it up.
If you want to get into post-rock, then great places to start would be Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Caspian, Mono, EF, Godspeed You Black Emperor and God is an Astronaut. Enjoy the sonic adventures 😊
Hi. I want to buy this pedal, but initially I considered Dark Star. As far as I understand, there are two reverbs in it, including Dark Star. Please tell me this reverb is implemented in it without losing all its functions.?Thank you. PS. I Sorry for my English, google translator
Yes, Dark Star is in Dark Light alongside the Old Blood Noise Sunlight. Both sides act exactly like the normal pedals would. Here you just have them in one box where you can run them together in different ways and in stereo as well if you want.
I have an afterneath at the beginning of my chain. Would you run this at the end or with the afterneath before it? I'm curious. I currently have a night sky and ventris at the end of my chain.
All depends on how you intend to route Dark Light. If you're playing in stereo, then I think it should go after the Afterneath, since Dark Light sounds glorious in stereo. But if you're playing in mono, then definitely experiment with placing Dark Light at the very beginning of the chain. It's main super powers lies in its highly transformative all wet tones, that can turn your instrument into something completely different. And something like that is fun to send down stream into other effects
If I got this I don’t think I’d go outside for a month.
Who needs it when you can have Sunlight inside :)
Never mind the pedal, what an amazing track!
Really kind of you. Thank you! I'm super pleased with how that composition turned out as well. Wouldn't have been inspired to create it without the pedal though, so it does play a big part in it all :)
While the pedal is out of my budget for now, this video inspired me to work more on my writing and guitar layering skills. Absolutely beautiful song!
Deeply honored to hear that!

The end reminded me of King Crimson’s ‘The Sheltering Sky’. I’ve always loved that sound!

This demo made me realize I need to get obsessed with Tides of Man's Young and Courageous album again.
Now that's an obsession I can get behind! That album had a huge impact on me back in the day
The 4 way video split is a lot of fun, love seeing those. Great showcase Stephan.

Cool pedal.... Really dig the intro piece !
Cool Pedal & Cool Stefan!
Thank you so much! :D
Very cool.love when Stefan cooks. I agree with the other commenters, he needs to sell an album of blissful tearful ambience.
The most beautiful guitar pedal in the world! And gorgeous track. Thank you, Stefan!!!!!

Deal :D
damn!
My words exactly, when I plugged into this pedal for the first time. So good! Happy you like it :)
Dreamy...
Happy you enjoyed it :)
The Lo-Fi Whammy is a mode on the OBNE pedal, yeah? So that was just an expression pedal plugged into it?
Yes, you can create whammy like effects when using an expression pedal together with Pitch or Crush mode in Dark Light
@@thepedalzone nice - thank you!
Must be a good pedal, can’t find any used for sale online 😭sounds awesome
Wow another masterpiece...
You should write a new proper album for The Gathering...
Thank you! Had a lot of fun composing it :)
Just ordered a Dark Light because of you! Do you know if the inputs are designed to accept instrument and line level signals?
You are my Eddie Van Halen.
Fax dude! And I’m a bass player
Really sweet of you to say. The good thing is that my music is way easier to play than Van Halen's. So it's achievable by music mortals :)
How much does it cost?
Phew I love these. A worthy upgrade if one has both mono pedals? It seems like the main difference is a convenient spread control and stereo output?
You also get way more extensive expression control, more HOLD options and you also get Trails. So definitely more upgrades to it than just stereo spread :)

Yeah! Hook an expression pedal to it, and set it to control the pitch voice in Pitch Mode or Crush Mode and you have yourself a cool lo-fi Whammy effect
I’m undecided on this Darklight pedal or the Walrus Audio Sloer. Any suggestions anyone?
This, is a great pedal. It's too bad it was a limited edition and now costs one of your kidneys to purchase. OBNE, make more!
If you're in the EU, you can buy it at my online store, without selling you kidneys.
