  • The president of the west African nation of Gabon has been ousted by mutinous soldiers following the announcement of election results that saw Ali Bongo re-elected.
    The coup is the eighth in the region since 2020, the second after Niger in as many months.
    Professor of African Politics at the University of Pretoria, Chris Isike, says the coup seemingly came out of the blue.
