I work in retail and we learnt that you should never chase after someone who is stealing because you never know what sort of weapons they have or what they are capable of. But next time I would say definitely try harder to find a staff member because it is important that they know of the stolen items so they can try and look on their cameras and stuff because otherwise they don’t really check the cameras.

I work at Home Depot and i tried to stop someone who did the exact same thing. we arent allowed to follow him out of the store but a customer took a picture of his license plate for us which was nice BUT hard to do so unless its an easy shot i wouldnt do anything because most of them are very hostile. its been happening a lot more since the pandemic has started actually.
Same thing happened to our pool. Said that the salt was low, but it was actually the salt cell that needed to be replaced. Easy fix and now we are crystal clear again 😁

I work at a very popular department store and see this type of people very often especially before quarantine. we once had a group of teenagers who came into the store shopped around and went to the men’s department got all of the high end brands and walked out right in front of us because we aren’t allow to do anything but customer service them. A nice couple was walking behind the car that was waiting for them and took a picture of the license plate, it’s not getting involved but it’s helping lost prevention at least trace these people but understandable because you don’t know what they are capable of!
If the muscels hurt in a surten way it means uts just too much for one day if working out, but the pain is not bad aither, if its a sharp painful pain, it is NOT GOOD. But do not give up, you can do this! If you have a day where you just cant do it cuz you are lazy or just dont have the mood, just imagane the next day you will regret for not working out. But you need one rest in a week atleast, so youre muscles can rest.

In a situation like that I would say not to approach the person but find a worker or just call them and tell them what you seen and probably what time and they could probably go back in the cameras and get stills and then they will likely get the police involved. From what i heard there isn't much a store can do in the moment only after.

Get Preen for the weeds. It prevents them from growing for six months. You can apply it anytime of the year when weeds are actively growing. Not sure if it would work because of the rocks, but worth a try.

I agree that 5-10 years ago it was a different time and I would be nervous to confront them too but there is no good reason to steal even if they "need" the supplies. I also agree that if they are not going to man the store that's there fault. Maybe I would try to get the license plate but idk its hard

In regards to the shopper pushing out the cart; you did the right thing. This happens a lot. I believe he just wanted to get away with it. I have literlally been talking to a shopper,and then she ran out with the cart! That's why we have people on the sflr and manned in the office. It sucks,but people are sketch sometimes. I’m from Alabama. There are TONS of people who open carry. For some reason, sometimes it makes me feel safer rather than unsafe. Because if something were to happen like that, someone around you has a gun. That’s the reason so many people around here carry one is to defend themselves in a situation like that. If they really really have to use it, they will.

I’ve worked retail and the only thing you can really do is get the vehicle information. As a worker you can’t touch the person basically just have to let them do it. I’ve seen multiple people walk out with items it’s sad.
I know a lot of stores are being told not to confront people right now. I'm from Pennsylvania and the chain I work for is based in Washington state. Rules there and here are very different. Our regional manager (i think he covers store in the PA NJ area) told us we are not allowed to confront customers who come in without a mask even though in PA our governor made a mandate that you must wear a mask even if you are in public outdoor areas. I think businesses are trying to keep employees safe because as we have seen since COVID first hit the US employees have been assaulted for simply doing their job and enforcing changing store policies.

However... It wouldn't matter if it was ten, 20, 30... years ago, or now. It's best to keep your distance but if you can get pictures or even video of the vehicle(s) and license plate(s) then do it and call the 'cops.' Let them know you have (a) picture(s)/video(s). Or if you can read the license plate(s) and remember it/them or write it/them down than just tell the 'cops' when you call. It can also be helpful to either let a manager/owner of the store know and/or send the picture(s)/video(s) to the store or even to the 'headquarters' (main office) location of the store along with the store number/location where the incident happened. It's not getting involved. It's not solving a crime. It's doing what you can to remain safe yet report what you witnessed. At the same time, be careful to keep creepers, spies and such at a distance. You never know if someone might notice what you're doing and try to prevent you from doing it. Guns: I'd rather someone be a permitted carrier and carry/use as per the law and constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

In todays times you never can be to safe. Karli advised you right i believe. That stores loss prevention isnt working apparently. I had a friend that worked in a baby clothing store that had ppl with sticky fingers. She said she knew and there was nothing she could do due to fear of her own life for a minimum wage job. She said the company didn't prosecute due to it cost them more $$ in fees and lawyers ect. The store i am talking about did eventually close btw.
What if the worker forgot to take the alarm thing off! That’s happened to me before, but i never get involved because you never know what that person is capable of !
I feel like all you could really do is report what you saw to store owner or managers to see if they can check the cameras and deal accordingly. Best not to go after the guy.
Every time I see someone shoplift whether it be in the store they pocket something or about to leave, I tell a worker or go to closest cashier to say lol. I mean they couldn’t be too worried about theifs if the buzzer went off and no one went to see? Or did it not even go off? lol
Fish can’t feel pain and can survive (depending on the type of fish) up to 10 minutes without water before damage is done. I wouldn’t recommend trying it out though

I once saw three people walk straight out a Vons with one or two items or so each I’m sure it was theft I didn’t even say anything at all and I was still in the store

I wouldn’t have said anything. Not your job to provide store security. I understand the masks are required, but they do cause a security risk. People are much more apt to shoplift while hiding behind a mask.

Get more toys, a big cat tree by a window would probably be good. In more extreme cases, it may help you to get a second cat!

never interfere with a shoplifter trust me stores have insurance for shoplifting so they don’t loose ANYTHING and us as employees are told not to do anything you can’t put your hands on them and half the time they’ve took pictures of their plates the police report goes nowhere
I once saw three people walk straight out a Vons with one or two items or so each I’m sure it was theft I didn’t even say anything at all and I was still in the store

I would of either figured out what car they drove an tell the cashiers or I would went an got the license plate number an record my phone an act like I'm not filming an walk over where there car was an than kinda secretly point my phone toward there plates an I'd go back in an show it to the manager but that's just me I always have to try an get people like that so they don't get away with it if I see it like someone trying to steal I'm on it
I wouldn’t have said anything. Not your job to provide store security. I understand the masks are required, but they do cause a security risk. People are much more apt to shoplift while hiding behind a mask.
