If I could give this video Five Thumbs Up, I would be very happy. What a fun and entertaining time you gave to us, Robert. You must know how much we all miss our in person convention dinners and this time with you made it all better. Of course, Ellowyne, Lizette, and Pru are fabulous! Rachel, thanks for Shooting for the Stars!
HAHAHA!!!! I think I was rolling my eyes so hard they were spinning in their sockets at the grand dad joke! loved the video - thank you. The dolls are so beautiful.
Robert this has been wonderful to get to see your favorites and get your reasons behind the designs. These up-loads by you and Rachel have been so fun . Thank you both. Cheers
Loved hearing about the Ellowynes! My faves are the gothy girls (Tell Tale Heart Ell is my #1 fave and I'm really an Evangline), I have quite a few Ellowynes and a few each of Lizette, Pru & Amber. Even the ones that weren't my style were so gorgeous, I loved looking at every release after I started following Tonner & Wilde Imagination. I also loved that she wasn't a typical bubbly bouncy doll and I love all of their back stories.
I started with Tyler et al, Brenda Starr & friends, Emme & still really enjoy them. A good number of 1920's style dolls crept in as I adored my Grandmother & that was her stylish heyday. We will not discuss how many I have as I do not know. I get asked, but I have intentionally never counted so I can honestly say I don't know. I'm not really goth at all, but I did like the Dreary dolls too. Sorry to say I could not get into the Ellowynne dolls as they look cartoonish to me, but she did have some great outfits! I just preferred the more realistic dolls and one does have to draw lines somewhere when it comes to collecting. I really miss the good old days of Tonner and looking forward to new dolls. Well, I just picked up the gorgeous Cocktails at the Plaza Sydney, so every now and then a new friend joins the collection. It's still fun to hunt for older dolls & outfits & occasionally get one. Being a senior citizen (oh that sounds so bad and why don't they ever make pretty fashion dolls of older women???) people occasionally think I am weird because I still "play with dolls". Like Robert Tonner, I too believe in the power of play and, if I ever stop playing, it will be time to cremate me.
Robert, you make Tyler Wentworth sound like an ancient antique! As for Ellowyne Wilde, she is way too wild for me! An offbeat goth girl from the wrong side of London. Ellowyne's burgundy Scarlett knock-off is a dress Scarlett wore when Ashley returned home for Christmas. I would describe myself as a boring white bread classicist. I like fewer over the top gowns and more real clothes from the 50s/60s that could still be featured today. Doughty is good. Robert, I am only a year or so younger than you. We have seen the same things growing up and from listening to you we have the same sensibility. Like you, I love the Betsy McCall artwork and have collected every page from 1951 to when I got bored with her life in the 1970s. Your prized Liz/ Carol Brent - Rachel identified her as a 35 year old - post inspired me to seek one out on eBay. "Nicely done dolls who were not popular" is a favorite catagory of yours. Not sure if I am happy paying 99 dollars for her or not. Your Liz/CB in the blue lingerie is a better eye popper. She is light weight unlike a lot of the Ideal dolls. Robert, your enthusiastic yet understated demenor (you love what you do which makes you a success in life) completely calls to me and I find myself plugging in to whatever your speaking about to wallow in your sensibility. Yes, not "movie star sexy", but covered up. I like looks that don't overpower a doll. Striking and demure in one... Your new Grace. I'm thinking it would be good to throw in a complaint to throw off the fawning: Disappointed Tyler was not given any flat shoes to wear beyond the occasional wedge. If Barbie could wear flats with her raised heel so could Tyler. Nobody wears those high stepping strap jobs all the time. Kitten heels always flatter the line of the foot, I think.
I loved the first one with the blonde hair...so perfect. I went nuts when I saw that face and wondered how I could get one.....it would be awhile and she grew like wildfire.
I started collecting Tonner dolls with Gene, so I have loved his dolls for a really long time. :) It's interesting to hear his thoughts on the design process too. I design and make a lot of clothes for the dolls myself and I often throw fabric on my table and start mixing and matching, trying to figure out something interesting. I'm in the middle of working out new outfits for some naked 1912 porcelain and composite 24 inch dolls and I am trying to make updated designs that retain the feel of that period. Mr. Tonner has sparked some thoughts on that. So, off to sew I go.
Hello Mr Tonner. I met you years ago at the Doll Market in Greensboro NC where I worked and I have a photo here somewhere of us together. 😊 I'm only just excavating legions of your dolls from storage and having a grand time doing so. I have numerous dolls in this video. They are gorgeous. So hello again and I so enjoyed this video. 😊
I enjoyed that .

I really like the personality of Robert Tonner. He is definiately the "it " boy of doll collecting.
