    I gotta disagree, we’ve seen multiple team go get solid mid major coaches this offseason and immediately see results.

    The coach that no one is talking about is Greg McDermott. Midwestern guy, has always done more with less, teams improve significantly as the year goes on. Indiana fans have some familiarity as his son played for the Pacers. Could be the year to go as Kalkbrenner and Ashworth graduate after this season.

    “IU can’t go after a mid-major coach”. Why not? Stupid take. The best hire they could make is a young mid major coach who can stay and build a program. But they are IU. The demand instant success. And because of that they haven’t had it for 25 years.

      Since RMK, other than Kelvin Sampson there is not a single coach that IU has fired that has had a robust career. Not a single one. Go look at their career records. They have all been mediocre. The fan base gets a lot of crap for being impatient but I see it as being adapt to identify poor quality coaching. Sampson was good but IU wanted a clean program and that’s not too much to ask.

    I don't understand Goodman's logic that says Indiana had success with hiring Cignetti from a mid major, but that was Indiana football and this is Indiana basketball. How has hiring a former NBA head coach and legendary IU player worked out for them? Wouldn't Indiana's experience with Cignetti teach them that there are great coaches working in the weeds and winning without major college resources and that their coaching can translate to a major program? Nate Oats was a mid major coach for 4 seasons and less than 10 years removed from being a high school coach, and he's taken Alabama to the highest level in program history. Would Goodman have said Indiana can't hire Nate Oats 6 years ago?
    Indiana is a faded brand in college basketball. Lumping the Indiana job with the Kentucky job is laughable. Other than one Final 4 with Mike Davis 20+ years ago, Indiana basketball has been pretty much irrelevant for about 30 years now. It is probably the seventh best basketball program among the old Big 10 schools over the last 3 decades, behind Purdue, Michigan State, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ohio State. If the administration at Indiana is on some high horse that they're too big to hire a mid major coach or must hire somebody from the "Indiana family", they need to get off it.

    • @rw6046
      @rw6046 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Well said. Until IU fans realize they are not a Blue Blood program anymore they will continue to spiral. You can't fix a problem if you won't admit you have one. They need to hire a good, young, up and coming coach, then give him time to build a program. They have unlimited dollars to buy mercenaries. They need some kids who will stay and build a culture and identity.

    Goodman sure has some bizarre takes. Indiana is too big to hire a mid major coach, but Auburn is so pathetic that the only way they might agree to let Bruce Pearl go to Indiana was if he let them hire his nepo baby son who has never been a head coach? Steven is in his 11th year on his father's staff at Auburn, and I'm guessing if another major school or even mid major thought he was ready to be a head coach, they would have hired him.

      Beard's game plan against Alabama when Ole Miss beat them in Tuscaloosa was by far the best I've seen against Alabama this year and I certainly remember the way his Texas Tech that reached the championship game defended. There's no question he's a great coach, but I don't fault a university that looks at his off the court episode and decides not to hire him. I know the criminal charges against him were dropped, but that was because the woman refused to cooperate. I'd think Texas investigated the incident before they fired Beard.

      @@Don-md6wn I like Beard, but the arrest was not pretty. He was fired with cause, and he didn't fight it at all. I don't know if the President at IU would allow the hire seeing she didn't allow them to call Fitzgerald last year from what happened at Northwestern. @Don-md6wn วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@jermhoosierfan I agree. Beard lost his buyout at Texas because he was fired "with cause" under the terms of his contract. Beard's attorney made some comment about how they might sue, but they never did. Beard's fiance, who called 911 and made the allegations, apparently had marks on her that lined up with what she told the police, and Beard was arrested and spent 12 hours in jail. But then she refused to cooperate so the DA had to drop the case. I wouldn't hire him if the police report was consistent with what has been reported.

For Indiana basketball, for those of us who know the game and how it should be played, alumni, fans, student athletes all would be elated with Chris Beard. He is THE perfect hire. Good man! Listen to his interviews. Beard or don’t bother hiring another 4-year coach. Please. As someone who still proudly has an autographed 1975 IU basketball and two IU degrees: Chris Beard. He studied for a decade with the best teacher of basketball ever, according to John Wooden. Make a proud statement! Hire Chris Beard. He knows the system. He would likely be doubling his salary coming to IU, the NIL budget would be bigger and He would still get to play in Wisconsin, being in the big ten. Not to mention, the opportunity to coach a blue blood also. I think he could be gotten

      @@ryanjeffries3407 Smart was run out of Texas if I recall correctly. I think that when a coach gets his program going at a school where he can compete at a high level, can compete at a high level, and the fan base is happy with him, he should think long and hard before going somewhere else. When a successful coach goes to a new school that is as desperate to win as Indiana, he probably has 2 seasons to succeed before the fan base starts turning on him.

Steve Alford didn’t even want Indy job over ucla. Zero percent chance Cronin takes it. Ucla is 10000 percent a better job than Indy and he’ll have a way better roster next year at ucla than Indy. He could legit win a title at ucla next year. No chance he does that at Indy
