The thing I loved the most on this case was the absence of Mia, it's the thing that I hated the most throughout the trilogy and having a giant case without a cheap solution like Mia magically appearing and saving the day felt so good and satisfactory. But yeah, going into JFA afterwards and not having a case like this or any reference of the characters from it for the rest of the trilogy felt really disappointing as a new player.

      > as a new player
I mean, as a new player myself with the Switch release, I at least knew these were GBA games first, and got a bunch of rereleases. So when we get to the end of the game, it says "BONUS CASE" and it's full of DS mechanics, it was pretty obvious this case was added after the fact and that the sequels would have none of this.

I mean we do see Blue Badger references all over the other two games in the trilogy.

It seemed to me more that Edgeworth is sick of the case and just wants to be done with it so that it never bothers him again, as evidenced by the "You want a minute? I'll give you three." line. At first I thought this was the case because he found the case tedious (though this is my projection more than anything), but on second thought, I think that Edgeworth had the feeling that the evidence was forged and the guilt was eating him from the inside. He wanted to face the truth rather than hide from it.

Rise of the Ashes is one of if not the best cases when taken as a stand-alone. It’s still top tier to me by any categorization, but the fact that it’s technically a filler case while having all the emotional weight of a concluding case for a game is just incredible to me. I also personally love how long it is. I am sometimes sad at how short some of the ace attorney cases are, and this is one of the few cases that truly feels like you get down to the wire as it takes the full three days to resolve, which is doubled down on the fact that the SL9 incident was about to be permanently closed due to the evidence transferal. Damon Gant is one of the greatest villains in the whole franchise and all the side characters are not only enjoyable but most are also deeply layered in a way that most side characters in the franchise usually aren’t. Overall I love this case and it’s clearly a top 5 case in the franchise to me.

  • @billy-the-butcher

Rise from the Ashes was the best case for me. The plot and mystery really had me hooked. All the characters were memorable. Ema, Lana, Gant, Angel Starr, Jake Marshall (ok except Meekins, I hate him and I hate how he's the only character other than Ema to return to the series). And I also loved the "SL-9 Incident" soundtrack. Perfect for this case, where it was all over for everyone already.

I'm extremely sad that Jake Marshall and his banger theme didn't come back :( It's especially weird because with many other characters they frequently use the "joke" possibilities of their themes or characteristics as much as they can (e. g. Grossberg's hemorrhoids or Bikini's back problems), and they had a great occasion to do that with the return of Jake and his cowboy theme. But they just... didn't give him a return, which to me is just so unlike them :T

This is one of the real room-splitter cases to the point where I have seen it argued as either bad or as a favorite.
A lot of it to me comes down to not minding the length, liking the Skye sisters as individuals, finding Gant an intimidating and worthwhile challenge in spite of his easily identifiable role in the grand scheme, and brushing aside the retcon with Edgeworth's retirement. I really like this case even though I know it's got some flaws throughout. It has heart and ambition and made use of the system it was on to create something similar to the DLC cases in games much later.

RFTA is excellent... in Japan. In America, it's only okay.
Now I know what you're thinking, "what are you TALKING about? They're the same game!" Quite. But the context is different. In Japan, RFTA is a special-edition bonus case. It's a prequel case for people who have already beaten the trilogy to sweeten the deal on rebuying a game they already own. Thus, it's the hardest game in the series so that it offers a meaty challenge to fans, it exposes neat lore stuff that those fans might enjoy, and it also gives them a sneak peak at the new mechnics and characters (well, character) who will feature in the shiny new Ace Attorney game currently in development. In that context it's amazing. In America... it's a giant difficulty spike that comes out of nowhere, it's long, it's weirdly placed, and probably turned a lot of players off.

      >a giant difficulty spike that comes out of nowhere
It was placed at the very end of the game, if people expect the ending of a game to be easy then they shouldn't play games in the first place. You're acting like this was thrown into the story in the middle of the tutorial or something...

Still my favourite case in the canon, for three reasons:
    - The creepy atmosphere, particularly caused by the fact that you are partly investigating an old serial killer case. Even the name "DL-6 incident" sounds creepy.
    - The overwhelming feeling from early on that you were uncovering an enormous conspiracy, and you didn't know what it was, who was friend and who was foe (or sometimes, who was both)
    - Less of the supernatural. I am actually not bothered by this aspect in the series, but in this particular case the absence of it was perfectly appropriate.

I feel like this was one of the more f*cked up cases.
The meekins video was straight up eerie and creepy and having to look closely at bloody fingerprints made me uneasy.
Not to mention the B plot of this case is all about the corrupt and unjust ways prosecutors put people in prison.
There were people who lose their jobs, family and free will because of the old case that was completely based on fake evidence.
Also the villain is kinda messed up. Grant was really intimidating to me, just his natural sprite staring into my soul as the music fades out made me know how powerful this man was. He was a lovely man at first and I enjoyed his nicknames and funny quips a lot. But he activated my flight or fight reflex every time I felt like we made him mad or said something we shouldn’t have.
The way he killed Neil Marshell freaked me out. We were lead to believe that no matter how you look at it, Neil was killed in some way during the fight with Joe Dark, we just don’t know who killed him or how he died. But then it turns out that he WASNT killed during the fight and was just unconscious when Grant found him. So Grant PICKED UP AN ALIVE MAN AND SKEWERED HIM ON A SPEAR.
The case was just kinda more f*cked up in some places and more serious I think.

Honestly, I absolutely loved this case and my only real complaint with it was the sheer length and sometimes the feeling of dragging on after itself. However, I honestly loved the plot, as well as how Phoenix does this mostly under his own merit with some help from Edgeworth-there are no spiritual tricks or Mia coming from the dead to save him; he and Edgeworth trap Gant by themselves. I honestly loved Damon Gant as a villain, too.
I know the whole thing with spirituality has significant and appropriate meaning in Japanese culture, but it was a really big turn-off for me from the future games as a western player.

In my opinion it's important consider this case separate from the rest of the first Ace Attorney. It's so different in tone and in characters. It's a lot darker and I actually appreciated it. I don't think it's one of the best, but I think it's a very memorable case and is definitely somewhere in the upper middle of case rankings.

I loved this case, and especially the cast. I feel it adds more context to Edgeworth’s arc in JFA, and the Skye sisters are some of my favourite characters conceptually in the original trilogy. Gant manages to feel on par with Von Karma in terms of threat, and the final trial moments versus him is the pinnacle of AA1 imo. It certainly has problems, such as the length (the speedrun for RFTA is the same length as 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4 combined) but the cast and brilliant twists more than make up for it for me.

  • @nataliemanahan5168
    @nataliemanahan5168 3 ปีที่แล้ว +82

My #1 issue with this case is its length. I LITERALLY called it a marathon right after I finished it. While the intro looks cool it's not REALLY accurate to the actual crime.
That being said I do agree that this game helps justify Edgeworth's actions between AA1 & AA2.
On a side note: still can't believe Edgeworth was never formally accused of murder. Or that Mike Meekins was accused at all after looking at that video tape.
Oh, and if Ema wasn't so likable I would have loathed defending Lana at all. It doesn't help that Phoenix doesn't even WANT to take the case until Ema BEGS him.
    Other odd points:
    1) Evidence Law MATTERS all of a sudden.
    2) Perjury is actually mentioned (I don't remember it coming up in any other case in the trilogy).
    3) Phoenix gets fired as Lana's Attorney (but it's ignored?).
    4) Gumshoe gets fired by Gant (but it's ignored?).
    5) This case almost feels TOO self contained to the point of feeling seperate from not only AA1, but the entire trilogy.
PS- I love the Blue Badger and his themesong. :)

      1) - The evidence law book given actually doesn't contradict a single presentation of evidence in the trilogy (Fun fact, it actually does prevent the presentation of the last piece of evidence in Apollo justice's last case!)
      2) It isn't, but it's definitely good that it is, and it's a trend that gradually improved in Takumi's games to the point where in Tgaa almost every single case of blatent perjury (At least, for the first time per witness) is admonished directly by the judge.
      3) - Edgeworth immediately objects to Lana's statement and basically says "That's horseshit someone is clearly manipulating you"
      4) - Gumshoe presumably is still fired during day 3, and is re-hired after Gant is proven to be the mastermind and stripped of his power.

I don't really know how to describe it but I just wasn't a fan of cases story till the last quarter of it. i agree that edgeworth leaving the prosecutor's office because of this case is way better than because of turnabout goodbyes, but it sucks that the aa trilogy didn't capitalize on this in any rereleases. like jfa still goes on pretending rfta never happened in the aa trilogy releases.
the case itself was insanely long and it felt like after every day you get more and more evidence you only use one time. holding on to that screwdriver for three days was testament to that. also i think i might just be lucky or something but i first tried the badger-vase thing both on ds and on the hd trilogy, so it wasn't that bad for me. the evidence room video section still sucks though.
however, the case was also very interesting and exhilarating at points though. landing the finishing blows with edgeworth at the end were amazing, and the killer's breakdown was incredible. gant's "damage" sprite is still one of my favorites in the entire series
spoilers for gaac: the parallels between this case and 2-5 were incredible, i'm glad it got a better spiritual successor in this case in terms of pacing and fun (and no bullshit sections like the vase and video)

Watching the security camera footage and trying to find clues was so cool, it made me feel like a detective going frame by frame (although I agree on the music being annoying part). Also figuring shit out without a guide was SOOOO satisfying, holy shit, especially the final piece of evidence showing that Ema was innocent.
Also Gant is so intimidating, my god. One of the best villains in the series, period. The twists were fantastic too, thinking that Ema of all people killed a dude, even on accident, was so bitter. And Edgeworth and Phoenix teaming up to bring Gant down was awesome.

I feel so mixed about Rise from ashes and a lot of my problems really comes down to this: This case really should been after Trails and tribulations. Both Phoenix and Edgeworth characterizations feels like it was straight out of T&T as you said. And I really didn't like that Edgeworth turned out to not have partaken in forgery, I feel like it kind of undermines his character development of going from a corrupt lawyer to a guy who will strive to find the truth as fair as possible. It would've made more sense that Phoenix stopped taking cases for a bit just rest up and reflect after bridge to turnabout and would also very easily explain Maya and Pearl absence as they'd do the same. And of course, the length and the gimmicks that overstate their welcome is a huge factor in my problems with this case. And there is a lot of other problems I have that will be basically a huge essay. But man I can ignore those problems when it pays off with Phoenix and Miles teaming up to taking down Gant. That's one of the series biggest highlight and line of Edgey saying to Gant "Just sit there and feel the noose tighten around your neck!" is one of the most awesome lines in video games ever.

As someone who only played the first game and half of the second, I think Rise From the Ashes is the best case of the entire game.
Phoenix is amazing in this case. Despite his triumph against von Karma, the guy found himself without a purpose. Maya is far away, Edgeworth is doing his own thing, so he's basically with no one there. No one he cares to help. That is until Ema showed up, and he kinda rediscovered his reason the become a defense attorney: help people who are suffering injustice.
I personaly liked the investigation system that Ema introduced. I really like examining stuff and getting new comments about what I find. I also like how smart Phoenix is in this trial. He's not a rookie anymore. He has beaten someone who was considered a god of prosecution in 2 different cases and gets him arrested in one of the worst scandals of the country, and he acts as the badass lawyer he had to be to pull all of this off. I think this was the most important episode for the character of Phoenix Wright, as he find his purpose once more and wins the trial without depending on one of Mia's channelings. He is a pro on his own and it's great to see him being treated as such.

Kinda late, but I definitely agree with all the points you brought there. Another thing I would like to mention (maybe just a small nitpick of mine) are the testimonies, especially Angel's. God, I fucking hated the part where I needed to cross-examine her, because her testimony was full of holes. I know she was lying, I just couldn't prove it for some reason. Definitely the most frustrating testimony in the original trilogy, if you ask me.

My first exposure to the Ace Attorney franchise was this game on the DS around a decade ago. The cases prior to this one were all great, but the gameplay was getting a bit stale by the end. Then suddenly we get a new case with new gameplay elements including forensics. It surprised me and got me hooked on the rest of the Ace Attorney games. I still look back on it as one of my favourite cases in the franchise. I could imagine it being long and tedious on repeat playthroughs, though. Despite some crazy moments, the first game is by far the most grounded in reality. I love the rest of the trilogy, as well as Apollo Justice and parts of the Investigations games, but the first game will always be the one I look back most fondly upon.

I somewhat enjoyed this case, but it seemed way too long to me, and i also had to use a guide several times. The game expected me to present the same vase over and over, and i was honestly a little frustrated because a case of this length was way too much for my pea brain i guess. But i still liked the story a lot and found Damon brilliant, both because of his somewhat friendly and charismatic tone in court but also because of his plan.
But i personally prefer aa2s last case because again, its not as long as RFTA. Not sure about aa3s yet, as i just recently started case 5, but i am hopeful it will be pretty good.

I have mixed opinions on this case, right now I look back on it and think ‘that was really good’ but when I was actually playing it I was confused and felt like it was dragging on forever
I was confused for a couple reasons; first being the completely new cast
second being the fact that the story was isolated from the rest of the cases in the game despite it being labelled as case 5
Third was The slightly different style (more mysterious intro, new game mechanics like fingerprinting)
And when I say confused I mean really freaking confused to the point of thinking my game was a dodgy copy or something
But anyways I searched up the case, found out some info and got up a walkthrough (cause i’m dumb and get stuck a lot)
I did like investigating edgeworth’s office though: the gifts from Wendy and the chessboard being set up as the red knights with ‘edges’ surrounding the blue spiked haired pawn made me laugh
In conclusion I think the case was good but could have been made better by being presented as a completely isolated bonus case

I really enjoyed it mainly because I'm too poor to afford the game myself so I watched RTgames play it. Not only was it fun to figure out a puzzles along with someone else, he does a great job with the voices. But besides that the case itself is such an interesting one. The characters have so much depth and personality. It's set up in such a unique way. I want to give this case more praise but I just can't think of the words to express it properly.

Seeing some parallels to this case (and an aspect of 1-4) referenced in The Resolve Of Ryunosuke Naruhodo, the final case tin TGAA Chronicles, was really interesting to me, and I would like to discuss it a bit while I'm here.
    SPOILER WARNING
If you're curious but don't want to be spoiled I do recommend that you play the game yourself, so enjoy some filler text before I get to the point.
Well here's what I was noticing:
The office of the Prosecution is viewed from an angle suspiciously akin to the major office in this case, even arranged in that 3-screens-wide manner in a way I thought of as a subtle homage to RftA.
The Prosecutor himself is a returning friend of the defense attorney, and the defendant is the game's initial prosecutor.
The case has a murder seemingly happening at two different locations, this time a boat and a run-down lodging.
The victim is also a detective.
You have to take down the most powerful person by the end of it all. Someone who has been a manipulator throughout the game.
The serial killer Joe Darke and the older Marshall brother could be seen as similar roles to Barok's older brother Klint and the father of Kazuma Asogi, Genshin. A past incident usually has a bearing on any AA game's finale.
I hope I'm not reaching; I genuinely enjoyed the homage, and it threw in plenty of its own unique twists too like the Boone one. I had a lot of fun playing it recently.

    • @mechashadow
      @mechashadow 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Also, the reason the murder took place in 'two different places' confusion was all because of the Detective's ID yet again down to the reason how the detective ID was there matching up.

It's a weird case, full of top notch elements like Emma as a sidekick, Lana as a defendant, Gant as a villain, or having so much interaction with Edgeworth outside court, paired with godawful things like having to fix a broken jar or the infernal music of the Blue Badger.
I think that Phoenix being so confident even without Mia's help could be chalked to Edgeworth deciding to be an absolute bro during this case. I don't think he ever helped you that much even against Matt Engarde, here he was almost finishing your phrases (granted, it took until the third day, the second day he was still up to usual Edgeworth shenanigans, but the way he used your own plan against you made him seem incredibly cool, when he finally switched gears and decided to help you it seemed almost like cheating)
A little detail that I liked is that Gumshoe was purposefully left out of the investigations because he was so personally loyal to Edgeworth and the police was trying to screw him, ngl at the beggining I thought that Marshal and Angel Starr were conspiring against both Lana, Goodman and Edgeworth as revenge for losing their jobs.
It felt a bit like this case was aping too much from 1-4, a prosecutor who insisted on their guilt and rejected Phoenix as an attorney is the defendant, a murder is getting pinned on a child that had a traumatizing moment in darkness, a powerful figure moving the strings to accuse said child for personal reasons, everything goes bad for Edgeworth and he has to change his mentality...

I just finished this case for the first time on the remastered trilogy, you should note that I've never played this series before, and dear god this case was not satisfying to complete at ALL. When I finished turnabout goodbyes right before this case I was absolutely hooked, and I loved how everything in that case connected together absolutely perfectly like Edgeworth realising himself that von karma was the screamer from his dreams and how Larry gives back the money that he had stolen all those years ago. Now, in this case? You barely see any of those characters again, and you take on a case that feels like an anomaly compared to the other ones, because up until this case you've taken cases only for people you actually care about and have an emotional connection to like your childhood friends and your partners favourite actor, but in this case you defend a prosecutor that you've quite literally never heard of before? And all you because they remind you of your late partner and her younger sister? What type of bullshit is that? When I finished Edgeworth's case I felt like I was accomplishing what Phoniex was destined to do since he was but a young child, but when I finished this case I felt like I hadn't accomplished anything of note! After the case ends all that happens is thag the sisters reunite, but I don't care about that! Because all I've seen up until that point was the other sister being an annoying bitch that refuses to help me find her innocent because of her fearing that her sister is a killer, but she refuses to think for even a moment that the scummy waste of space that blackmailed her couldn't have also had something to do with the death. I seriously don't understand how the game portrays her as some legendary prosecutor when she does something as stupid as this.
Tldr: Supbar case and super super super bad when compared to the case just before it, and doesn't make you wanna play the game after it, which the case before it accomplished incredibly

Every time one of my friends picks up Ace Attorney I ALWAYS recommend them to skip this case and come back to it right before getting into Apollo Justice, because thematically, gameplay-wise, and in terms of characterization, it just works better as a prequel to Apollo Justice than it does in the position it was retconned in. I advocate for re-retconning this case accordingly.

I like the different tone of ROA. The absence of Maya, the vastly different characters having unique personalities both to the other ROA characters and the main 4 cases, the minigames and the different locations all contributed to a unique atmosphere that was never recaptured spare Investigations Edgeworth. A lot of people say it's too different with it having things that never returned but I'm willing to accept it as it's a noncanon case with no baring on the overall story aside from Ema. The devs got to experiment with different things not seen in the original trilogy. It's wholly unique to itself which is why I'm one of the 2 people that like Apollo Justice with it's deviation from the norm.

RFTA is one of my favorite cases, if only because of the characters it introduced. Emma of course is key to the overall series now, but Lana, Marshall, Angel and especially Gant are some of THE best original trilogy characters.
Gant for me is up there with people like Godot and Mia as those characters you never forget. Everything about the man is iconic.
And yeah, day 2 sucks but so does day 2 in a surprising amount of cases, including other "final" cases (this is more of an extra stage than a last stage tbh).

I thought at first Mia is going to help out more than just the first trial (Ms. Starr), but turns out we're completely on our own on the final day; it's quite the leap, I mean Phoenix could have been just stepping up because of the stakes, but you're definitely right, he leapt heaps and bounds above his rookie standing there, like he's already a veteran! What I like about Rise of Ashes is that it maintains the same tempo and rhythmic excitement that I got from play Turnabout Goodbyes. Ema Skye is a lot more tolerable character than Maya or hell even Pearl when she’s with you. It includes great features in the game allowing for more in depth knowledge of the evidence being presented to you. And while technically this case came out far after the original trilogy, it also does a clever thing of not including the character portraits to be used as evidence. This is actually a really smart thing to do given where the case is located. Any new player wouldn’t think to present the portraits as evidence for the simple reason as they wouldn’t know about that until JFA.
The case also comes after my personal favorite case in the entire series, turnabout goodbyes, which is a phenomenal case in itself. Not only is the music and story intriguing in the case itself, but their are so many memorable moments that make me want to replay that case over and over. Manfred Von Karma is a hell of a prosecutor to take down, figuring out who Yanni Yogi is, is kinda humorous but at the same time not entirely out of the picture when you account for how it’s a staged testimony until he finally comes clean which is such a big break. And then there’s the DL-6 case. Arguably one of the most important backdrops to the entire ace attorney series as it is essentially the root and cause of all the other cases if not most of the cases that occur within the Ace Attorney series before and even after turnabout Goodbyes.
So when I heard that Rise of Ashes had its own backdrop case, the SL-9, I knew that not only would we be solving the case we are in now, but also the reason as to why it all happened to begin with. It’s amazing, articulate, and, if it wasn’t for the fact that I got stuck on a few points, very high paced and engaging. Still really freaking long though.

Rise from the Ashes is hands down the best case in the entire franchise as far as I'm concerned. All the narrative beats hit just right, the mystery is layers upon layers of well-constructed with a difficulty to it that is genuine and well-paced; not a moment of "wait where the hell did this come from" nor passages where the solution is obvious, but it still takes entirely too long to get there. I've done three whole runs of this case, more than any other in the series, loved it every time, and picked up on some new detail that I previously missed with every new run.
I got into AA with the trilogy ports, so this was effectively my first final case, and it is the standard that I hold any other final case to.

I'm probably the very few that liked the length of this one, sure sometimes the investigations do drag-on a lot (god imagine this case but with psychelocks...) But i feel this was done on purpose, not only is the case itself complex and full of conspiracies but Gant is one of the hardest villains to ever get a guilty verdict given his power and influence alone
It's something that made this very case more unique than it already is

A very complicated question with a very simple answer.
It's the Ace Attorney equivalent of a superboss. Not one you take on normally, but rather one you have the option to take on when you're overpowered and looking for a legitimate challenge for something that's only semi-relevant to the main story. (Even Capcom are aware how out of place this story is mostly. When they made the Ace Attorney trilogy game they included several mini references/call forwards that ties to this case to the third game....specifically case 3 for some odd reason)
That's why it's so much longer, that's why it's so involved, that's why it's harder than most if not all "final" cases in the other games. It's a test to show your dedication to the Ace Attorney style and it rewards you with an incredibly complex and indepth story that gives some extremely strong insight on some of your favorite characters.

Having played Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Justice for All and some of Trials and Tribulations, I honestly think this is an awesome case. It's definitely long, and it's crazy how much evidence we're carrying around, but my main two gripes with this chapter are the vase scene and the Blue Badger video part.
Concerning Phoenix actually being capable in Rise from the Ashes, I don't necessarily find it all that weird. It's been a little while since Maya left, and like they tell us at the beginning of the chapter, Phoenix is lonely. He wonders why he even bothers to come to the office anymore. It could be he's a lot more dependable when in a crisis situation. Sure, in the De Killer case he does what he is told, but his hands are tied.
It's possible that he's actually very clever, and a lot more, heh, edgy, than Edgeworth, but with the Feys around, he's more relaxed and goofy, leaving his guard down.
That's me trying to justify it anyway. As this case was probably written after the other games, I'm not surprised there are inconsistencies in his character. The Ace Attorney games aren't known for making a whole lot of sense. But I love them anyway; perhaps a little more because of their ridiculousness.

I did learn that it was added on, on the DS rerelease so I assumed when I played Justice for all that it too would have a fifth case added on which disappointed me greatly when I finished case four. I know it may be trivial but I wished it wasn't called Rise From The Ashes and stuck with the Turnabout something naming the rest of the series does. Kinda wish Ema Skye had been given that CSI type spin-off game instead of that first Miles Edgeworth Investigations.

Very long comment but this case and the video got me really excited so bear with me: I love Rise from the Ashes. I actually believe Rise from the Ashes makes the trilogy make more sense in my head, the reason why Edgeworth disappeared and his rediscovery of himself during his time far away makes so much more sense to me after the events of Rise from the Ashes. If it weren't for Rise for the Ashes I wouldn't have this "head canon" in which Phoenix isn't mad at Edgeworth disappearing because he lost to him, but rather that Phoenix is mad at Edgeworth disappearing because he thinks Edgeworth let the case destroy him (at least temporarily).
It is true that the case is awfully long but as it starts picking up speed I felt as thrilled and excited with the plot twists as I did with many other great cases in the trilogy.
Finally, the game shows not that Wright is a mastermind in anynway, but that there is no case that Phoenix and Edgeworth can't solve if they start searching for the truth, I think this case and not only Turnabout Goodbies is the one that cements Edgeworth's trust in Phoenix and after playing it, it helped me at least to trust Edgeworth in Farewell my Turnabout.

the first time you have to point out an error in the video tape to prove it wasn't goodman but then the court only accept the light being on despite every single error pointing to exactly that was kinda dumb and I guess that's the root of the whole issue for me... it's a really intriguing case but being so intricate and having so many pieces of overlapping evidence in a game where you have to present specific evidence at specific times could've been handled a little bit better.

IMO Rise from the Ashes is a good StandAlone trial, but yeah, its place at the timeline makes it weird, and JFA script not mentioning this trial in Edgeworth's retiring bit questions if this trial is canon on the trilogy or not. And speaking of DS mechanics on this trial, they should make a whole game with this feature, after T&T. That would fix the retcom issues, the consistency on Phoenix asking Mia for help and it would not draggin on and on if it was the last trial of the hypothetical game.

JFA doesn’t mention RftA because RftA came out 3 years after

I think it a good case in general and is great narratively since Edgeworth would be disgraced after being exposed for using false evidence.

This case is practically its own game due to how long it is. That being said, it’s SOOO GOOOODDDDDD

I finished the trilogy not long time ago, and for my it was my favorite case of the game

    I enjoyed the case,
The testimonies with Angel, Meekins, and Jake were great and challenging.
What let me down was the final testimony, showdown with Damon was too easy, using those two pieces of evidence, there wasn’t much of a challenge to think through. Maybe the game writers had to rush to wrap things up. It just felt anti climactic.
But still I really enjoyed case a lot, it also had lot of development for Edgeworth.

I thought it was excellent as a mystery and I personally really like the CCTV puzzle(but can see the frustration); I can understand the whole post T&T Phoenix fitting better with this case but I like to think that Phoenix really is this good without Mia. Difficulty wise I love it, its perfect Post-game content as its not needed to understand the main story but really works well on its own. But the jar puzzle drove me wild with only three attempts, that was abysmal.

My issue is that the events that unfold stand at odds with the plot of Justice For All, in particular Phoenix’s bitterness towards Edgeworth throughout JFA. Having been deeply involved with the events that led to Edgeworth’s resignation, Phoenix should well have known why Edgeworth stepped down. Yet, Phoenix resents Edgeworth and accuses him of doing it out of pettiness, because his ego couldn’t stand losing. Like, buddy, you were there. You KNOW what happened.

    • @s07195
      @s07195 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Really? Phoenix had full confidence in Edgeworth that he would see the light that prosecution was more than just a perfect record or enmity towards criminals. Edgeworth then 'chose death' (the parallel in using this term is more apparent in the JP version, where Phoenix literally says 'choose life' in the epilogue) which made Phoenix bitter and think prosecutors were all the same. If only Edgeworth just stepped down without faking his death...

@@s07195 Yes, really. It should be obvious that Edgeworth didn't "choose death" because he was mad about his perfect win record. I don't know how you can possibly "really?" me about that. They are well past the subject of the win record by the time case 5 finishes up. He resigned because he discovered he was tricked into using falsified evidence in court, and Phoenix was right there in court with him when Lana confessed as much. Only an absolute knob would deduce it was because of the win record at that point.
