I've been using Flickr regularly since 2006. It's the only social media service that I really enjoy all the time. The reason for this is that it really does focus on Photography, providing both a venue and a forum for photographers to share their craft and learn from one another. The social part is fine too, but the way I see it, social chatter really isn't Flickr's raison d'etre--photography is .
Listening to Ben speak was inspiring on a number of levels, and one thing that I really appreciated was his description of the family business model that Flickr and SmugMug operate under. It's awesome to hear somebody in a position of authority within a business describe the product or service that the business builds as being what's important. Bravo! If you commit to offering something of quality that people want, you should have a business that will continue to thrive well into the future. I find the "growth at any cost" mentality that seems to dominate big corporations both shortsighted and incredibly selfish, since it will often abandon the very people who built/supported/boosted the business in the first place. No wonder so many of these heartless organizations fail so dramatically when all is said and done. The way Ben described it, Flickr respects the communities that have helped to build it, and in my opinion, that is commendable and smart.
In any event, this was an excellent interview! Flickr is a company that seems to be in very good hands, and that bodes well for it's employees, its clients, and its supporters. Please don't sell out like so many others. Take pride in your product and enjoy the appreciation of your users and the communities that benefit from Flicker's existence.

This is really fascinating - to hear all that history that I'd never known - wow... first AWS client - stuff like that. Impressive! And finishing it off talking about large panoramas and 360 - talkin' my language!

The (co-)creator of Flickr, Stewart Butterfield, and I were postgrads on the same masters philosophy program at Cambridge. An absolutely lovely guy, and I'm sad we lost contact. I met up with him by complete fluke on a hiking trail in western Canada and he was so humble he didn't even mention it. I actually had no idea he had created it until several years later when I spotted his face on a Business magazine. I wonder what he would think of Flickr today.

Given TWIP is owned by Flickr, I would treat this accordingly.
Flickr is a dead platform. No one is using it in 2024. It's not been updated for years. It's got a lot of potential as a photographer social network, but sadly it has been allowed to wither and die.
