    The block mod is no guarantee the liners won’t crack, it’s about how well it’s been maintained and warmed up / cooled down that prevents liner failure. I’m on 147,000 miles at 340bhp with no problems as it’s looked after.

    • @turbo_tyler_
      @turbo_tyler_  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow that's impressive your cars still going good at that power and mileage, Since my cars standard (for now) and low mileage I'm pretty confident its been well maintained, and even though I'll defiantly look after it I still want to do the block mod for future proofing and piece of mind, and these cars are so hard to find in New Zealand if I did crack a liner I don't think I'd find a spare engine. What mods have you done to get 340bhp? Thanks for the comment!

      better piece of mind though, you wouldnt buy a condom after having unprotected sex would you ? you buy it before hand even though you know its not 100% protected

      🤣🤣 well said mate. That’s exactly my thinking with t this focus. I’m upgrading all the common failures points for X amount of money, before they fail and cost me 3 times what it would to prevent them. Thanks for the comment, nice to see a fellow focus TH-camr watching!

    Looking forward to the content, I have one myself and owned for around 5+ years and started where you are now in my young 20,s so insurance was ludicrous. Mine is running around 290 bhp with plenty of breathing room to push more. Once you push past the 300-350 bhp mark things can start failing pretty quickly if you haven't spent money in places where needed. Drive shafts snapped on me 1 week after a remap, clutch slips after stage 1 due to immense torque, oil diaphragm failure due to age. I can also guarantee the bushes etc will be worn by now especially on the rear, poly bushing all of these is a worth while investment including the gearbox mount. As for bodywork, I had the whole care wrapped but over the years it does show its age realizing I should have just had it re-sprayed to begin with. Overall best car I've had and fun to drive and the 5 cylinder is truly special and will be a future classic. All I can say is don't give up and keep up the good work! Here is my mods list and why if interested,
    K06 hybrid turbo (Oil seal failure on my stock turbo)
    Forge acutator ( Small vacuum leak my old one)
    Aluminium re-circ valve( I would replace this, the stock one is plastic)
    Group A induction kit( Decent kit and comes ECU relocation bracket same as RS)
    Direnza intercooler ( Very good inter cooler and comes with the pipework)
    Inlet plenum( Airtec plenum is made from cast metal not like the OEM plastic one which can crack)
    Genuine Ford drive shafts ( Dont buy cheap ones or "upgraded" ones on ebay they dont last)
    Aluminum radiator ( Mine was leaking plus its a worthwhile upgrade)
    Silicone hoses ( The old ones perished and split)
    Section 59 turbo back exhaust ( Well they call it S59 for a reason ;) but best sounding one on the market)
    Poly bush kit ( All the bushes at the rear were shagged or seized making camber adjustment impossible)
    Lowering springs ( Coil overs are good but I didn't want to feel every pot hole on British roads)

      Thanks for the comment mate, hoping to do the same sort of mods to mine as well. I could really used that “don’t give up” comment at the minute as I’m doing the block mod and some things haven’t gone well. Video on that will be up in the next week or so hopefully .

    Interesting how you guys over in NZ get the 3 door ST and 5 door XR5 Turbo... In Australia, we only get the 5 door XR5 Turbo...

      In NZ we only got the 5 door xr5 as well. All of these 3dr st cars are imports, most jap imports like mine is

      @@turbo_tyler_ Oh okay... Forgot about you guys getting lots of Japanese imports, hence the weird spec... How rare are they in NZ? You did say in the video that nobody knows how to work on them and they're very rare but this engine also come in numerous Volvo's... In Australia, they're pretty uncommon nowadays, however there is aftermarket support and they do have a following...
      I own a 5 door pre facelift XR5T in the Performance Blue colour with a stage 1 tune and Miltek exhaust...
      They're great cars though this one needs some work to reach it's full potential + it has the signature Electric Orange colour which goes for a little more on the market...
      I would recommend joining the "Focustoc forums," as they're very helpful and these cars are well known in the UK...

    It looks like it is sitting very high, or maybe the aftermarket wheels are smaller than standard with low profile tyres?

And because of its poor condition I got it for a price I could afford as I couldn't afford one that's all sorted, plus gives me an something to work on as I've always fancied a bit of a project. Sorry, you’ve got a old performance car that needs some routine maintenance and bodywork. The block mod is not necessary, it’s a 2006 and if it’s survived till now it says a lot. The orange suffers lacquer peel, answer is not to buy an orange ST.

    • @turbo_tyler_
      @turbo_tyler_  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Keith, I agree the block mod isn't necessary, but I wanted to do it as a precaution as I'm planning on lots of track driving and hard driving and really just wanted the piece of mind and know I'd done everything I could to prevent a massive failure. In regards to the paint, I knew the orange cars peel easily before purchasing, But I really like the colour and got the car so cheap the paint condition was justified and gives me a project to practice my painting skills and make content for you guys. All the routine maintenance is currently being done so stick around and enjoy the process. Cheers
