I mean it's pretty much impossible to have a substance stay the exact same in heat vs cold. There will always be a bit of warping going between extremes it's just the nature of our world.
Wow I think the most impressive thing about this is hitting these lines on skiied out terrain. When it's fresh tracks, the snow is more predictable (barring avalanche danger) and softer obviously. Wow this was insane.
Corbett’s, for many skiers, is an Everest of sorts. I’ve done it thrice in my life and while it’s not that exceedingly difficult for expert skiers, it does require (for most) a methodical line, and a lot of confidence. You’re looking at anywhere between a 10-30 foot drop at any entry point. And really, once you get past that entry point, it’s pretty easy. With all that out of the way HOLY CRAP what an incredible run. Most people will stand at the edge, carefully planning their lines. I’ve never seen a person just launch themselves like that (even though I know a lot of planning went into making that jump). Very, very impressive!
I started skiing in the mid 80s and we all watched Warren Miller ski movies and skied 206 cm boards. We hit the biggest stuff we could find at Grand Targhee, Jackson Hole, Snowbird, Alta, and the like. Then Greg Stump blew our minds with the Blizzard of Ahhhs and we saw ski heroes like Scot Schmidt, Glen Plake, and Mike Hattrup. Since then the equipment and the skiers just keep getting better. This stuff is insane - I love watching these guys ski. Rock on!
When I first saw this a couple of years ago, I immediately recognized the location even before he clicked in. So, when he started towards Corbet's with speed, I got real interested. I figured he'd fake towards Corbet's, then at the last second make a huge GS turn to the right, spraying all the looky-loos standing around the entrance. But, when he stayed on his line and kept accelerating, I started to panic. My thought was maybe the dude's not local and doesn't know he's headed straight for a freaking cliff. But then I thought heck, it's a TH-cam video. He's obviously not going anywhere near Corbet's because they can't show bloody mounds of quivering flesh on TH-cam. What the heck am I watching? And Why Is He Not Slowing Down?! WHAT THE!! When he blew right past the entrance at that speed, and flew off the very cliff edge that tens of thousands of riders the world over have backed away from for decades, my insides felt like they fell out. I could NOT believe what I was seeing. Then he landed that impossible drop, AT SPEED, ON HARDPACK. It was clear to me this video was either CGI or someone had posted video of an alien's ski vacation to our planet. Whatever the truth, after more than 30 years of skiing, I've seen tons of amazing things ON and IN snow. But, nothing has blown my mind more than what Gallivan did here. Absolutely incredible.
There are quite a few guys who hit corbets blind now. It's always roped off though so people won't accidentally do it. Can't say I ever did it. Dropping in is good enough and you can get up to a 40' drop depending on where you go. That is enough for me...
speechless. just flat out one of the most exciting runs ive ever seen in 100 million years of skiing.ive skied part of that. sofa king creative ONTOp of your skills !!loved it. way to live!
+sergei291 Speed is so much more exciting on skis though. I regularly go 150km/h+ on my motorcycle but the adrenaline doesn't come close to when I clocked myself to 96km/h on skis.
Holy crap! Like that line wasn't impressive enough, it's on hardpack. Never seen footy of anyone dropping Corbett's that big. And it's HARDPACK! Nice job man.
that's incredible.....super talented...flight into Corbett's was looong....snow was super crusty....think i tore my meniscus just watching....safe turns to all....
Imagine that you have 0 cookies and split them evenly among 0 friends. How many cookies does each person get? See, it doesn’t make sense. And Cookie Monster is sad that there are no cookies, and you are sad that you have no friends.
Obviously good to keep the poles with you, but I do know someone that broke his thumb because his pole got caught in a tree and the strap pulled his thumb back quite nastily, so I'd be careful having them on around trees...
Not the best of adverts for the helmet bracket
for some reason that happens when they get rly cold.
I want to know how he knew it was out of place and then how he got it back so perfectly on the fly

Wow, I drop my skis to the snow exactly the same as this guy. The similarity ends there unfortunately.
😅😅
Everyone drops them like that
@@mrki1261 that was the joke
At the start I was like I can do that
Then he drops of the cliff
Alex Bainbridge cliff drop XD
I can do rodeo 360 just learned
Alex Bainbridge haha
That was corbits ive skiiid there
Alex Bainbridge, u mean Corbet’s right?
Hope this guy wins! Dropping into corbets on a hard pack day takes some guts!!
+Armada i hope he wins too. it is also more impressive cause he's blind in one eye
+Armada and the flip at the bottom to boost!
Dropping into Corbets Any Day takes Guts.
That wasn't exactly dropping into Corbets. That was more like launching into Corbets. Balls of steel.
@@TS1207-g9y More like launching into orbit, jesus christ

yeah the part where he shreds that gnarly looking ice and does a 360 was absolutely mind blowing
My knees broke four times while watching this clip. Unbelievable skills and control

Lukas Im late. But same. That scared the crap out of me frfr
How can he even ski with balls that heavy?
ikr
Because the more weight you have the faster plus you have less fear😉
gravity will pull him down
Elijah Romo thanks
@@andreashoppe1969 In fact his balls will pull earth down
and now in 2019/20 they drop it with a double backflip lol
It’s so crazy how much Corbet’s has evolved recently. at this rate, in another decade or 2 people might be throwing quads over it lmao
Kings and queens was crazy
Yh kings and queens gets better every year
Dub 10 as well

OK I'M TRADING MY SNOWBOARD FOR SKIS NEXT WINTER
Hi Ben, love your videos and I would give skiing a go, it is a blast
Come and ski with me in Chamonix (mmmm... That rhyme)
holy crap, its the real One lol....love your vids ben, I'm always happy when I get the notification :)
more freedom on a board? boarding is really fun, way more chilled, you can go in way harder on skis though! trust
telemark skiing is where it at dude
Fist time I've seen footage of someone riding Lib Skis
Also, pretty sure he hucked this further than the TGR athletes did in their Corbet's video.

it's think it's the speed itself that made it possible in those conditions

this line is nuts but I would recommend watching kings and queens. It's 40 other people doing the same thing as this guy it's quite something,
After he went off the second I was convinced that this would be a good run
At least now I know how to put on skis, thanks Blaine.
Pretty much
I just need to go to the mountains immediately!!

Corbets with hard pack, at that level? My knees would just blow out. Sick vid!
congrats on making the right choice
how do u even land without breaking your knees
Ummm I don’t know
1. Knees bent.
2. Land on a really steep slope like this guy did.
I think it takes a certain level of insanity to not hurt yourself.
THIS MADE ME SO HAPPY
i'd be so mad if my gopro didn't capture the run hahah

that was a MASTERPIECE
My study shows that skiers and Leo Taillefers have a 75% chance of winning line of the winter.
Sorry snowboarders
"Leo Taillefers" lol xD but yea in general skiers just charge harder, loving when boarders go all out though!
Isn't there just more skiers well that's the case in Australia so that would automatically give them a higher chance but could be different else where
He went down Corbett's like a boss!!! Respect
Oh men!

I agree he looks like he's going around 70 mph (guessing) when he lands, One would not think ski poles attached would be a good idea.
