  • 2621 was purchased by Detroit Street Railways as part of a 46 bus order in June 1968. It is a T6H 53505A model. Preserved by DDOT, it has appeared in a couple of movies.
On June 4 it was out for a quick spin including a trek down W Canfield St between 3rd and 2nd Avenues. Big thank you to the people that made this happen.

I remember riding this type of bus. My grandmother would take me to Downtown in Detroit. Talk about memories, it was so much fun. I was about 5 to 7 years old then.😍😍😍

No A/C, No Power Steering, No Wheelchair Lifts, No P.A. Mike & System, No AVA System, No Panel to Seperate the Operator & Passenger Behind the Operators Side, No Low Floors, Just a Strip Down Transit Bus at that Time!

Lots of them had power steering at least the local transit where I grew up did. Some of them were air power steering some were hydraulic.

They should display the 1960 GMC "Fish bowl" bus at the Henry Ford Museum in the near future as of DSR bus in Detroit. It will be almost 60 years old for a vehicle.

RTS replaced these but RTS was still cool. New Flyer replaces RTS and it’s not the same.

I remember the inside of the bus like the Ex AMA San Juan GMC New Look until 1991 in service, especially the rear bi fold doors, and sweet 6v71, the San Juan fishbowls are 35 footer.

Wow these buses was back in the days when we have to ride them to school and when they wouldn't give us a school bus to ride oh how things done changed and it didn't have no A/C on them in the early 60s
Also we had to stand up when it was full with the working maids on it going to work
    God done already blessed Americans

That bus has almost the same interior scheme as the old Red Arrow (Suburban Philadelphia) Fishbowls.

SMSTERN2 I wish they would bring them back here in Detroit too! Sadly, while we get to see them as tourist attractions, we still have these RTS Buses. Might as well call them the bullet-shaped buses if you ask me.

Only GM could put styling in a bus,the rear end treatment kind of reminds me of the back of a 60-66 Suburban/Carryall.

I, remember back in the day when I had to take the DSR bus to Von Steuben Junior High School, and to Osborn High School.Which, are located in the 7,Mile Rd and Hoover area. The,DSR bus route#84,Seven Mile East/Through.I, also remember the RTS buses in the late 70's, and in the 80's, and the 90's.
PS, I also took the DSR bus to other parts of the city of Detroit, and then some other parts of the city, besides going to school and work.

It would be nice to have a 1960-1977 "fishbowl" transit busses. Both DSR from 1960-1974 and DOT from 1974-1977. It is now an antique busses.

First road going vehicles I drove as a teenager were gmc newlooks, a couple mci classics, and a '94 Orion V that actually had a ddec electronic 6V92. I think two of the MCIs were electronic 92s as well. Was like 16 years old working there as a student and they let me park them and drive them in and out of the shop 😂 that would never happen today

In NYC these buses were green or blue and I never understood why. Might have been orange too for a different purpose. They felt like a school bus to me. They had good cornering and decent suspension it seemed.
