This is the sickest video I've seen--Thank you for comparing all these fantastic soundtracks! I hope the YS series gets to become a game series that's "Historic" in its retellings.

As a guy who started the series with the SNES Ys 3, it has its own charm to it. Fight me

Me too. I love the trumpets in the OST. I whistle along with it.

funny how many say a specific version sounds horrible. that's like saying the composition is horrible. lol. the point is hearing the evolution and ports, and appreciating the composition for how amazing it was, isn't it?

I really dont understand why Ys struggled so much in the west given PC gaming has always had a much larger pressence here, the sound tracks were always at least castlevaina quality regardless of what sound system they were working with, and its story structure fit right in with childrens programing of the 80s. Only thing I can come up with is the bump combat being something we just really hate.

PCE-CD and Genny versions sound the best, Oath in Felghana is also awesome in it's own way too.

I'd love to be able to get a download link to this. Like, all 16 minutes of it, in high quality.

SNES version of this particular one is not so bad as the others. PS2 still missing the whole point. PC/PSP not bad, Genesis the best one by far

Surprisingly the X68000 wins this one. Love the instruments! SNES isn’t that far behind, best composition but drums sound strange. PCE, PS2, and PC all miss the mark, the compositions are a bit bad... NES is nice but not great, and dear god the instrument on the Genesis kills my ears.

@Benjamin Owuye Jagun I wasn't going to respond to you until I saw how many times you've openly insulted people over the SNES version. A bit rude, perhaps? Now I'll be fair, yes, I like the SNES soundtrack pretty much, but this is one of the worst tracks from that version due to the pitch and... those odd noises they threw in.
And, regardless of the fact that I like SNES sound (but not all soundtracks are created equal, mind you, some are good and some are bad), my favorite version of this game's soundtrack is definitely the PC Engine/TurboGrafx one.
Point being we all have our opinions and different tastes, for instance, I usually don't like noisy synth music (but man, _something_ was done right on the TurboGrafx), and the SNES version was done in a different style that I prefer... albeit with a few junky audio samples. I can assume this was because of the budget and competence on the part of the team that happened to make that version.

The entire SNES soundtrack is superior in its arrangements to all the other versions. It just has a kind of grating synthesizer. Even so I prefer it above the rest.

The SNES version tried too hard to be like the X68K's Midi, but failed awfully.

the best is the snes soundtrack, unless you are brain-dead and you believe the genesis is better

I'm braindead and believe the genesis is better
...though it's still not my favorite arrangement overall. Gotta give this one to the PC Engine CD, Sharp X68000 is my runner-up though.
