Those beans look great, the air popper transfers too much heat and the development stage is too short, this is where you will bring out those flavors. I'm working on modding a popper now but waiting on parts. If you plan to continue the "popper" that Sweet Maria sells is out of stock but was about $89 and looks to be a great option for a small batch home roaster when its available again.
How's the roasting coming along? I've been roasting for several years on my own DIY rig, but recently started using a popcorn popper. So far my roasts have turned out decent, but nothing near what I'm used to. For me the biggest challenge to overcome is how fast it roasts. Seems like it doesn't allow for a more optimal development. That might have been why you didn't enjoy that light roast so much.
