It is basically a manifold on wheels. You can see the 4 large intakes and pressure relief valves as he walks around. Other engine companies would pump water into the Satellite to feed the master stream mounted on top. It also carries large diameter hose and extra foam.
@@matt89108 I know it's not relevant to the reason they switched from Mack to Pete, but Volvo Trucks is a separate company from Volvo cars and is still based in Sweden. Mack is owned by Volvo, however, they are still an independent company and built/HQ'd in USA for the NA market. They also have an Australian plant and I believe maybe Germany but I'm not positive

Satellite carry’s extra Hi X, I don’t think they have foam eductors or Hi X generator ( red box w/fan) which is usually carried on back of the Foam trucks. Mostly a special call manifold with deluge gun.
Mack C’s: Now there’s a classic rig! Wasn’t NYC but I have fond memories of the station up the street while I was growing up: Mack C and Ford C cab pumpers and an open cab Alf aerial....

Great choice for big city work. These pieces get tossed all over the place. Who the fux cares if it's pretty? It's reliable, durable & easy to operate in narrow streets. The code over the turn signal indicates it's a (P)eterbilt (S)atellite built in 20(19) & it's rig number (003) for the year. The box is by Ferrara in Louisiana. Came with a case of Tabasco, right guys? FDNY usually replaces all six satellites with the same order. Cliche time: Strong Work Team!

The Peterbilt 520 platform is going to be used for fire apparatus more and more in NYC as the city tries to move to trucks with lower cabs to avoid accidents, especially pedestrians being victims. These 520s are typically used in garbage truck applications and have far better visibility than traditional rigs. Ironically, DSNY is looking to move to even lower cabs, similar to London’s garbage trucks, for the same reason.

They are foam and extra pumping back-up for the super pumper, I believe.
They don't have a pump. They are just a manifold on wheels. They are pumped into by engines.

They won't be used for engines, ladders, and rescues. FDNY has their own spec for chassis.
