Thank you! I'm sure you're familiar with Tom Wadsworth? Been listening to his series on "The early church did not have worship service". With so much obsession with "reforms" and "revivals" and "fresh revelation", It's so good to see more believers actually wanting to "return to our first love". I dream of a day when the church buildings, the church names, the pulpits and stages and worship bands and services are a thing of the past.
Thanks for your comments! Dr. Wadsworth was kind enough to come on the channel a couple of weeks ago. Watch here - th-cam.com/video/dDtQ9_BCQL8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-7HJP53AO-PFkkWC
I'm finding your clips very constructive. I agree that exegetical sermons are best; they give to God the Pre-Eminent voice to nourish and instruct our souls. John 14:26. This podcast is now in my top 3. Thank God. I play guitar and write ...so the biblical admonitions about music are ringing true as well. I didn't expect such succinct biblical clarity when I clicked on your channel...but I got it. Thanks again.
The early church worked around what they had available. There was some experience with the synagogue (Jewish church or meeting house) which used the idea of centering but the scripture reading was from an elevated platform and it was (and still is) done in a very formal and devotional manner. As more Greeks (gentiles) entered the community there Christ understanding became an impasse and they were driven out. The default meeting house was often a Roman style commercial room where open markets took place during the week and on Sundays was rearranged for worship. Eventually fellowship were able to afford there own buildings which took on a more formal understanding generally understood as a liturgy. The pulpit, lectern (and ambo if there is only one platform) are arranged for the purpose of worship there is also an altar and a communion table. Everything is arranged and done to glorify God. The problem with the modern church is the removal of as many sacred elements as possible. Total fellowship is deliberately replacing all elements of worship, we hang out we never look up.

I listened to 7 lectures on the idea of what the early church was was like recently and they come to the same sort of ideas about edification my question then and now is how do we keep?doctrinal and theological purity within an service if individuals bring what they believe to be true I’m not saying it’s not possible. I have not heard of valid answer to this. I guess the reason that monologue has taken over from dialogue is because of this very reason to keep doctrinal I feel theological purity….any response to this question would be welcomed
EXAMINE scripture for yourself, and TEST every spirit yourself. "Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true." Acts 17:11 "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God." 1 John 4:1
Thanks for this great video. For about 8 years I have been looking for a church that is like the Acts church, sharing, participating and where everyone brings a psalm, a teaching, a tongue, as the Bible says. But most churches have the pulpit to pew model. I have found a house church which I am going to this Sunday that may be like the book of Acts. I am hoping it is.
Open Brethren had a worship service like that. The men spoke and shared as the Spirit led. One had a verse and message, one offered up a song, one had a word of encouragement or or exortation. The communion bread and wine was shared. The following meeting was teaching/preaching. By different men who were gifted teachers. We sang hymns and songs during that time. Early church at first was Jewish. They shared meals in homes and went to the temple where there was a place where they could hear the Apostles teach I’m thinking they may have attended synagogue, where the scriptures were read each week. They didn’t have personal bibles like we do now. Destroyer of the Gods by Larry Hurtado is a great resource to see what second century church was like.
Not at all - only in reference to the times the believers assembled. There are no specific mentions of musical instruments when they gathered together. More on that here...th-cam.com/video/iwLxLjEyTgA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4URTLocSGOvO3eVZ
Pul pit is an altar for sacrifice of exercise. I encourage all preachers to sit in the back of the church and shhh the mouth, Let the little ones stand from their pews and begin to exercise. Every Revival has began when the preacher sits and the people begin to talk instead ......Growth Growth Growth you wouldnt need a revival if you would allow your people to LIVE by actually receiving firsthand from Christ.................
Thank you!

Mam did you say that instruments aren’t even mentioned in the Bible with exception to the one verse you displayed?
