This was an incredible fixed game to watch. It's very interesting to see a full-on bad-neighbor game of this scale with opponents who seemed to understand the shifting dynamics of power as well as the theory of destructive cooperation within bad-neighbor (other than the green player who just seemed bent on being a bad neighbor without a path to winning). I know fixed games and cooperative strategy aren't your preference (you prefer the unilateral wait and pounce gameplay often found in progressive cards), and so I applaud your restraint and level-headed gameplay in this match. I will chime in too as this video was a blast. What a comeback. By the way, TH-cam recommended you winter tournament video that is taking off and I’m so glad I gave it a shot. Your commentary, personality, and gameplay are a lot of fun to watch.
Black is such a good example of the importance of DOING SOMETHING with your massive lead. Eventually the board is going to turn on you if you just wrack up these troops but don't actually do anything to progress the game. Loved seeing you all with together to break him back.
There is no other satisfaction quite like when you killed Green in this game. That took insane patience. Really enjoying these videos, I actually bought Risk a while ago when playing a couple games with a friend and seeing this makes me glad & I wanna boot it up again. Amazing comeback, awesome video, I'm excited to watch the rest of the season :) Edit: Spelling
Great win Pete! Personally I think that green needs to be punished for their actions, I understand the occasional suicide in ranked because somebody is mad, but to sign all the way up for tournament and then proceed to try and ruin somebody’s game knowing that he wasn’t going to win either is despicable, I don’t know if there’s a tournament backlist but you have to assume that even if it wasn’t you, green would be ruining the game for somebody else, I would love to hear your thoughts on that, great game!
So Devil’s advocate would say for most of the game he was protected by black. Maybe he thought that since black was strong and defending him, black would attack people. Then he attacked him when he realized later on. I don’t believe this way but you must consider both sides
I think an important skill for free for all play is empathy. You saw me at multiple points genuinely confused why green was making the decisions they were making because it seemed to hurt me, hurt themselves and benefit black. I didn't however take it like he was trying to ruin my game. Because he could have just slammed his stacks into me, so he was still attempting to play to win from his seat. Last season's final had a player not play to win and ruin cowboys game. That type of stuff is closer to what I want to see removed from the game: alt accounts in tournament were banned this season. But as far as anything green did being worthy of punishment I have to completely disagree. I honestly think they played their best game. Just because I was on the recieving end of it doesnt mean their moves aren't justified. They had as much right to win this game as I did.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy you're super genuine guy. I really appreciate your analysis on the perspective of the other player; furthermore how you did not allow their play to affect your play. This was a wonderful game! The 4 of you (including the catalyst Pink bot) heroically standing up to the powerful Black empire was a treat to watch. Glad when you realized if was your turn to break Black when you did, for it gained the valuable trust of Orange and Red. An important lesson I learned from observing Black's play: when you have the advantage don't relinquish it with indecisive moves.

This feels like the most realistic game of Risk ever. Everyone thinking White is a pushover because Green messed with them several times, only for White to come back with a vengeance and absolutely wrecked Green. To Orange understanding that there is no peace with Black and attempting to destroy Black no matter the cost. Fantastic.

Just re-watching this video for some reason (I think it's because I remember how patient you were in the game after being harassed by green early on), and saw you mention 64 people watching, a huge number for you at that time. Fast forward about 4 months from then and you had a stream with 1.5k viewers. Your channel has blown up, in a good way! Pretty cool!
"If you guys think I did anything to show too much aggression" - putting that stack right on his border was pretty aggressive. I understand why you did, but perhaps keeping it a few territories away would have been better initially. Your stack would have been stronger and in a less threatening position. My two cents ;)
Fixed games on massive maps take forever. But I sacrificed some sleep and watched to the bitter/sweet (for you) end! It was very good for you that the board united to take down black. And it all started with the death of green 😅

Either way, probably because of you that I know how to play as I only have about 40 hours in the game xD (39 hours and 20 minutes to be exact) So thank you for teaching me senpai!
I've been having terrible luck in the ranked games, there is always some jackass that doesn't understand that I took his territory and moved my troops completely away from him just to get a card, then he comes in behind me and leaves my big army to get blitzed by the threat I've really been preparing for, it's super frustrating
See if you can figure out why it's happening? Are you breaking bonuses? Are you in someone's way to finish one of their own? Those are two usual reasons someone would slam your army.
The other reason could be: That other player is not expierienced enough to correctly "read" your intentions. I'm always surprised how Pete's enemies seem to speak the same "language". They communicate via moves. I guess, that will come eventually. But I also guess, some people just never think that far. Even as Grandmasters.
Managing to not just win, but also get most of the kills (including ones without game benefit) is quite the feat! I wonder: do you enjoy games with long timers or short ones more? Do you find your quickness in turn decisions a skill all the same as thinking, or do you think it detracts from the strategy orientation of Risk?
I prefer shorter active games. There is a debate in the community about whether the timer should be considered a strategic element for the game of Risk. Since the board game didn't have anything of the like. I come on the side of yes, but. I think the timer matters and playing to it is another skill gap to leverage, but I definitely think the speed playing field needs to be level if we are going to be playing games where the timer matters. Otherwise I can just steal undeserved wins by being faster. And if you think I'm quick at decisionmaking you should see some of the top 1v1 guys.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy a couple of timeouts (or time pauses), say 3 per game, would let the regular turns move quickly, and only those key turns take longer. But that would end up stopping some sniped bounties.
1:18:12 is that the slider point you and under the gun were talking about. Losing 18 troops to a 7 is heartbreaking. I never knew that was a thing. I started thinking this was true random for a sec
