    Oh WOW, I am so glad I found this tutorial, I just recently purchased some Bronze, Aluminum and Copper metal powders to make bead and pendant castings and seeing you use the wool steel pad to polish is really awesome. Now I know how I can use my powders, thanks for posting.

    25 years ago, I used a thixotropic gel resin, mixed with bronze powder, to form a "skin" first i.e. to just coat the inside of the mould. I then used normal casting resin and stone powder to fill the void, resulting in a stunning looking ornament that I still have to this day (it actually looks like real bronze, not a cold-cast). Before using wire wool to bring out the metal, I tooth-brushed it with black boot polish, and left it to dry for an hour or so (no colours/dyes were used). The end result was something far superior to this, using a LOT less resin and metal powder, thus keeping costs way down. Then again, this video was made by someone who is selling the materials needed....go figure!

    I use a spoon to get the resin out of the bag. Saves a lot of mess.

    Can iron powder be used?

    im wondering about using chopped pieces of steel cable strands to increase the shear/tensile strength in order to use epoxy for cold casting odd shaped brackets and the like

      Hi This would be totally experimental, you may find however depending on metal size that the contraction/expansion of the metal may cause cracking ion the resin. glass fibres are usually better for improving strength to resin.

    why not just pour in water , then measure that +20ml to get a better volume estimate or use talc if you don't want to wait for it to dry

    • @ecfibreglassuk
      @ecfibreglassuk  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The estimate is on weight - so 1kg of resin to 20ml of catalyst. This can be measured using digital scales and a syringe, no technical equipment needed. Any hint of moisture at all will inhibit the resin curing, and cause it to cloud

    Can the powder be used to make resin jewelry with epoxy resin?

    1) can you supply small qty of metal powders and resin(1kg...)?
    2) can you supply by express (dhl,fedex...) door delivery?

    • @ecfibreglassuk

      Delivery is UK only, more information is available on our website

      +Fattah Lee Hello, it's not something we've tried to do so I couldn't advise.

    5:57 - How can you mark on the mold? Even markers with Xylene won't stick to silicone - they rinse right off with water. I sure wish I knew the answer to marking on a mold that will last.

      Sharpies work quite well

      @@ecfibreglassuk Thanks, but I just tried one, let it dry, and it rubbed right off with very light rubbing - no water or anything, just my thumb. I want to be able to write the resin capacity directly on the molds, without the need for a separate spreadsheet I'd have to refer to.

      @@MileyonDisney Don't rub it off. Write it on the outside, stick a piece of paper to it, use masking tape on the shelf where you store the mould

    Thank you for the video. I visited your website but I cant find the mould you are using. I want to buy this kit with buddha mould. Can you give me the link please.

      Hi Melody, we don't sell that mould unfortunately! I believe one of the guys took a mould off another Bhudda and used that to cast from 😕

      He says at a 1:1 mix ratio by volume, he's going to use 100ml of metal powder and 100ml of resin

    Hi, you are missing a very important key step, coating the inside of the mold with metallic powder before pouring the resin....

    • @ecfibreglassuk
      @ecfibreglassuk  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, yes you are right it is common practice, we would do that if we were coating the mould to save on powder. However here we are doing a solid heavy cast with a 1:1 mix, any dusted powder into the mould would have been rubbed off anyway during the wire wool process. As you can see from the final results this method worked great for us. We should however probably do another video to show how to save on metal powder especially since the rise in metal prices. Thanks for the feedback and info.

      @ecfibreglassuk  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The mixing stick is an upgrade from a spoon. works just fine once you are a black belt in mixing and dispersing of pigments for 20+years. Thank you however for you professional input I tried to find your video on the subject but not sure where it is? nice playlists though 😉

      @@ecfibreglassuk lol. You used your hand. Around 2:55.
      E: but you did get me. I don't have any professional videos detailing how a spoon is better than starfish fingers for scooping powder. 😂
      To clarify, good video, good end result. It was helpful for what I wanted to know - whether I needed to worry about the metal settling.
