This is it's primary purpose, especially if you have small machine. The ability to look to the opposite side while cutting is useful too, but not so much. The mirror and it's mount are from old microscope. So I can remove mirror very quickly, it just snaps in or out. Many times I had to use small mirror and hold it by hand. And one time I decided to mount adjustable mirror permanently. I consider this day one of my best. If you don't have an old microscope you can use Loc-Line tubes and old disk from HDD - some of them are aluminum based so you can cut them easily.
