Auckland HOG Chapter Has an Unexpected Encounter on the Southern Motorway

- In this pre-lockdown video the Auckland HOG Chapter rides south on the Southern Motorway and attracts some unwelcome attention which leaves me asking a few questions. There are lessons to be learned all around and the big one is DON’T POINT GUNS at anybody. Not at people you know, and definitely not at strangers. It's quite simple really.
This video was filmed in late July 2021, a couple of weeks before lockdown.
Unfortunately, sign of the times. Great group ride, cheers for that.

Woah!! Now that's something you really don't want to see while riding on the highway - somebody waving a gun at you! Ugh! Like you say, it really doesn't matter whether they are real firearms or not - they sure looked real and you just can't tell. The only thing here Hugh is that the 'gunmen' looked quite young and they were sat in the back of the car. Probably teenage high jinks - let's hope. Ride Safe!
Thanks James, that was the first and hopefully last time I have such an experience on the roads here. What can I say, the country has gone to the dogs since you left, hahaha. Hope you're getting some riding done over there, our riding has been heavily curtailed of late, hopefully will have a few more freedoms in the weeks ahead. Ride Safe !

I love riding, but I'll NEVER own a cruiser. Attracts too much of the wrong attention, and gangs like to steal them. So nope, will have a bike they all hate - a tourer.
Those fellas waving the guns had nothing to do with me riding a cruiser. They were waving them at cars, vans anything and everything. And most of the bikes I was riding with in the group that day were tourers so, in short, you need another plan 😎

Why did you not pull over when you went pass the police and give them details of the vehicle and person with the gun. Never assume it is fake. The police don’t so you shouldn’t.

Well, in the first place, why pull a gun on anybody ! In the second place HOG riders aren't a three-patch gang. HOG (Harley Owners Group) is the largest factory sponsored riding club in the world with affiliated chapters all over the place and each official chapter will have a sponsoring HD dealership supporting the group.
