Martinelli fit and in form and not left all alone without support on the left wing is still ahead of Williams IMHO...Last season was poor from Martinelli from a combination of injuries, leading to struggling with form and A. the tactics, eg left wing back inverting and not supporting and overlapping, B. injuries in the left wing back position forcing us to play Timber, Zinny, Kiwior eg no partnership formed, C. no one taking on Xhakas role on the left supporting. Martinelli (and/or Trossard) was fighting alone on the left, whereas Saka, White, Odegaard had a tight partnership on the right.

Looking at united as an arsenal fan, nothing seems to change. They spent half a billion on midfielders and forwards the last few seasons and they are STILL in the marked for midfielders and strikers. Meanwhile their defense is nonexistant, even worse then last season with varane gone.

Im exited about the season and i was expecting united to make a real step in the right direction with the new owners. But i honestly cant see it without a complete rebuild of that defense. United had massive issues there last season, ETH was lamenting about the lack of defenders available to him practically every presser.. and then they sign an 18yo to replace varane and go into another season with mcguire and evans. The kid is talented im sure, but he replaces varane, surely you can see that the defence (*!) is weakened and not strenghtened?! Maybe its a case of having to offload a few before they can sign, but then again.. extending evans contract?!
The difference between arsenals defender signings and uniteds is that ours arent deadwood. With the amount of incredible attacking players in that united team, im sure you can go on to win a cup again. But as far as stepping into contention in the top 3 and being stable up there.. man you need cb's.. plural! You need a pairing like vvd and konate or saliba and gabi. Martinez is over rated at united, he could maybe play as a left back as he is good on the ball. I like him, but he just isnt a prem cb, sorry to say. On the sides, awb and luke shaw just isnt good enough on the ball to play possession football. I like dalot alot though, i get TAA vibes from him, real baller that one.. smooth on the ball and great delivery and crosses. He would benefit massively from having a proper cb pairing behind him.
