I normally don't gripper the risers on winders but after seeing this video i thought I'd give it a try! plus i used my eye witness on the sides like you did in this video and I can't believe how much tighter and neater the winder looked!! I normally turn the sides and pin them but from now on I'm doing this although it took longer to prep the stairs it paid off. Thanks mate keep up the video's

    Thanks.
I am trying to workout which is the right or the wrong way to lay a carpet in my hallway, stairs and landing.
The hallway is in a square 'C' shape.
So when you enter through the front door of the house, there is a floor space of 2m width by 1.2m length where there are stairs to the right to the 1st floor.
Straight in front, the hallway (floor space = width 1m by 2.5m length) continues to an internal door.
Through the internal door to the hallway rear, width 2m by 1.2m length
So ground floor, total width = 2m by total length = 4.9m
So do I lay the carpet :
    A.
So the 4m width of the carpet starts from the front door to the internal door cutting at 2.5m, also cutting the carpet length as it meets left and right walls (2m)
Plus a 2nd piece covering the hallway rear, in the same direction width (1.2) x length (2m)
    OR
    B.
Have the carpet length starting from the front door to the internal door, so the 4m carpet width is cut down centre (2m).
Plus a 2nd piece for the hallway rear, with the 4m carpet width again cut down the centre (2m) to a length of 1.2m
In either case I think I would lay the carpet following the same direction in A or B
So can you explain the correct direction for the stairs and the hallway (which I assume would also be the direction for the upper landing)
I hope I have explained this clearly. I could send some images if it would help. Many thanks.

Great video as always. I’m having a problem getting a blade to cut off the excess carpet from the gripper between the tread and riser. Are you supposed to cut from the back, or what blades and knife do you use? Cheers.

@@TrimTuckCarpets Hi, I haven’t explained it very well. I’ve started at the bottom of the stairs, have got a piece of carpet for 3 steps. So, started on the raised and run it over the bull nose and stretched it on to the tread gripper. Hammer the carpet in and on to the next step. I’m left with excess tacker to trim off. I’m trying to cut from the front just after the treat gripper but can’t get the blade to go through the pile as it’s quite thick. Hope this makes sense, I’m probably doing it the wrong way. Any advice really appreciated. Thanks.

Stoked you've got new content up. Genuinely find yours the most useful carpet videos on TH-cam, especially given you do it the proper way with no staples or tacks. Most demonstrations blast countless staples in.
If I could be so rude as to offer a suggestion for future videos, I'd love a basic beginner's guide for things like: fitting grippers in rooms - how far away from the wall etc; how to do grippers and underlay on stairs; different ways to carpet stairs; using the knee stretcher; cutting the carpet to rough shape; where to start with stretching ...etc... That sort of thing..
I just like your traditional, honest approach. The few videos you've got are very useful and there's a lack of good quality, informative carpet videos on TH-cam (even though there's a fair few carpet videos available, I find a lot of them pretty useless if you don't want to use staples and tacks 😂).
I know videos are time consuming and you have a living to earn - so just a suggestion 👍
Anyway - keep up the good work and thanks for the help so far with reducing how sh!t my DIY carpeting looks 😂

Firstly I don't usually write comments/reviews but after watching some of your videos they compelled me to do so.
    CONSTRUCTIVE Negatives :
Pull up your trousers. Not everyone wants to see your underpants.
When panning round the room with the video camera. Please either pan slowly or slow down the footage during the editing process.
In a couple of videos the fast pan speed makes viewing sometimes dizzying.
When using some your nifty tools, take a second to CLEARLY show us what they are, how they work and where we can get them from.
EDIT: Just watched one or two more videos, in which you do explain about a couple of tools.
Can you give me a website link for a carpet tool suppliers as I don't want to just get sub-standard stuff from Ebay, Amazon, Screwfix, ToolStation.
When you have finished fitting the carpet, WE KNOW it is going to look amazing. But we want to see how you did it in more detail.
Particularly cutting the carpet to fit.
    POSITIVES
Your carpet installation is excellent. Having had many carpets fitted over many years, I can honestly say I have never seen a fitter take so much care and effort to fit them. Not to mention the pride you take in to your work.
    TRUELY OUTSTANDING !!!

Hahaha I appreciate your kind comment. But with regards to the trousers. It’s just impossible they always seem to flow down showing off my colourful underwear!
      Please excuse me 😀
I will do more videos on tools and explaining them. Also showing where you can buy them from. If you have any questions let me know and I’ll try my best to help you out.

Some real good tips on this one :-) Nice to see someone else using an EZ tucker. A very useful tool. I sharpened the edge of the wheel and the rear guide slightly so it avoids the pile and pushes down just the backing against a skirting/architrave. Don't run it over ya fingers though!

If you want to learn carpet fitting what would you recommend for a beginner

    • @drawnbody51

I've been fitting nearly 5 years. Got into it after leaving school I didn't know what job to do and a family member was a fitter so I started working under them at first as just a helper then gradually over time started doing more and more on my own under but under their supervision. It's the slow way but it's still a way.
Another way to get into it if you don't have family is to contact a fitter and ask if they need a labourer / helper, don't mention or demand money, even suggest working for free for 1 week, and after that week they can decide if it's worth keeping you on.
Also contacting or going into a carpet shop / retailer and they can help link you up with a fitter and go from there.
I personally love the job, you can learn as fast or as slow as you want (depending how patient your teacher is) and it's very therapeutic and rewarding. It doesn't feel like a job when you enjoy the process. It's like if you're a good artist and then decide to do it as a job, it's very freeing.
Yes it's physically tasking and has certain mental challenges, but more enjoyable than any retail / customer service / desk job.
