They tell you to say certain things or a group will approach you with questions in a way to make you the entertainment but won't really explain it to you so you have to remain the outsider. It feels very uncomfortable but it's subtle and an example of "micro-aggressions" but then when you don't play the clown you're a bitch. In this example the "chef" wanted patty to play the clown. Then when she didn't she tried to make her look crazy "are you ok???" It's hard when you can't win! 😭😭😭 My heart goes out to anyone out there who's treated like this marginalized... ESP when there's violence or trapped in poverty and it threatens your life with mold or previous meth production in homes. You have ptsd from witnessing and experiencing violence and people at the office job you worked your whole life for complain all day about how it's boring but you're happy to be there safe. When they talk about vacations andbeaches, horses, fixing or making additions to their big house and you are wondering if your heat will work. Trying to fake like you're not struggling. When you know you're the lowest paid person there. You're always getting called in by HR for vague things you know other ppl do. You don't have the resources or knowledge to bring the right things in for potlucks or to buy everyone in the office gifts for babies and weddings. When you don't have a husband or a ring so you're looked down upon. You took a long time to graduate got a ged or went to a school that'd not as fancy. Didn't know how to build a resume or can't network because... And had to be blown around by traumatic life event one after another. Don't have laundry at home so you're worn out from the lugging shit to the laundromat and sweating at home with no a.c... You don't have a grocery store in your neighborhood and eat from the gas station or drive 30 mins to the store. Your doctor speaks to you like a kindergartners to be "culturally and socio-economically sensitive" (thanks for trying... It does help to try to listen but we just need to be heard...we're not dumb) you don't know you were supposed to try to be skinny and be fatphobic. You don't know to wear certain things or some things scares people because it looks "ghetto" like hoops, bright long nails, loving your curves, certain ways of doing eyeliner, leaving your hair natural wavy not styled with heat. Eating certain foods... Anything flavorful, spicy, exotic "stinks" when you heat it up. Going the extra mile makes you the bitch instead of getting you a raise. They would have their reasons but these reasons are not seen in others who fit the role. They would see it if you or anyone points it out because their superiority is so engrained and subconscious. So you look like you're making excuses and not accepting responsibility if you bring it up. You feel crazy.... What's going on here???? I feel trapped???? Am I really a bad person??? You begin to internalize... Oh.. You just. Think. You're. Better. Just. Because. You. Eyeballed. Me. And. Just. Felt. It. Believed it deeply.
It happens women sometimes by men this way too a lot. But to be black in a white environment. I can only begin to imagine but I can begin from being poor trying my whole life with a degree a master's and student loans still making just above minimum and still being blown around by the winds that be... I canSTART to imagine and TRY to listen and understand. I just black ppl to know there's some white people who care and cry for you!!! Who though it's not the same I know what it like that when you say "I matter" to somebody there is some kind of discussion afterward instead of ""of course you do." All anyone should say when someone asserts that they matter is, "of course you matter. Of course your life matters. I'm sorry you were ever treated like you don't matter. How can I show you you matter to me?" If I ever have wealth and a business I will hire blacks Hispanics poor folks and and I will show them appreciation. Financially and in regards to climate, feedback, and listening and if you are having issues with harassment not being heard.... Employees WILL EVALUATE THEIR SUPERVISORS.
