Hogwire's gotta be one of my all time favorite string bands. They are a fantastic example of how old time marches forward while being true to the deepest roots of American musical heritage. Each tune is a respectful homage to its influences but innovative without being strained by puritan conventions of genre. Each imparting their character as musicians into a unique interpretation of a familiar tune. You might recognize the tune but everybody puts a lil' bit of their own stank on it, like an accent or an elegant signature. That's why I love old time music. Even if Leftwich's Round Peak fiddle book flies a mile over my head I'll strive to carry that torch the best I can. Flubbin' and fudgin' grace notes and bowing 'til it sounds good, and while I hopefully fit it into each measure, nobody quite plays it the same. Thanks Brad, Linda, Joel, and Marielle. Y'all make beautiful music and far as I'm concerned that's doin' god's own work.
