The band of my 64 years on this planet and in addition to their incredible talent and creativity B-M remain humble and grateful to their fan base. Gotta love a band that can musically smash you like a baseball bat to the head (and you love it) and at the same time they steal your heart, what a fcken band Po, welcome to the Maids you wont regret the journey 👍🍻
It's an unusual song for them lyrically, Saiki the lead singer wrote these after she got seriously pissed off with someone / something (stories vary). Normally their lyrics written by Miku (rhythm guitarist) are positive and uplifting with an occassonal sadder, reflective song.
*BAND MAID!* The gist of the song is about a bad relationship gone worse, and who's relationship is unknown but likely not the band members themselves. Band Maid formed in 2013 and still has the same members.. I'm not necessarily buying that it was about one specific person. I believe the other story that Saiki (singer/lyrics) was just pissed off at all of the cheating husbands during covid. I think that sounds more like her. "10 minutes of Limp gymnastics"😂😂
I'm not buying it either. It seems clear to me that it's about a relationship that has become stale, and in which love has turned to disgust. It's sad, but it happens. It needn't necessarily be rooted in anything other than imagination.
The story about the lyrics. Kanami, the guitarist, was in a bad mood and wrote an angry song (for your info, Kanami is writing songs 24/7) so she asked if someone in the band could write an angry lyrics to fit the song. Saiki, the lead vocalist wrote one and Miku, the rhythm guitarist an second vocal wrote another one. And they did choose Saiki's, because it was really mean, and this is this one. The object of hate is the husband of a friend of Saiki. This husband had cheated on her friend during covid. Lesson learned, do not piss Saiki off, then she write about it!
The song subject: Back in 2020 there was a huge public scandal in japan between a well known pop singer named LiSa and her voice actor husband. The husband cheated on LiSa and blamed it on covid lockdowns. Saiki, singer for Band Maid is good friends with the pop singer and she was so livid with this guy that a song was born as a moment of catharsis for her.
What happened to the sound of Mincho's guitar? How odd. Is it some high frequency filter or something? Look at "from now on" OMV from Band-Maid. Subbed
No idea, I did not alter the original audio in away way. Thanks for the sub. Recommend something cool and something most people don't know about. Cheers.
Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. Ps, something wrong with your sound, one channel was turned right down making the lead guitar extremely low (lead guitar is usually on right channel with Band-Maid).
@@reactionaries Nope, just a fan from England. If you mean the sound, they often master their sound in a particular way. For instance rhythm guitar panned left, lead guitar panned right, drums and bass centre. This changes on solo's etc of course.
Papinoob, you are now officially a Carrier Pigeon! Congrats. I'm 75 years old and have heard and seen A LOT of rock music in my life. I have seen life in the late 60's Cream, The Doors, The Byrds. In the 70's I saw the Allmen Brothers Band and almost all of the great Southern rock bands as a stage-hand,plus Led Zeppelin twice. In the 80's I attended several more concerts and was in charge of front stage security for Devo at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. So, yes, I have seen a lot of rock. The past few decades I have given up hope that the rock music I loved (with a few exceptions) had gone by the wayside. Everything was so damned corporate. I discovered Band-Maid on TH-cam during the pandemic four years ago. I was surprised by my first view of Band-Maid from their official live video of "Domination". It showed me immediately the individual and collective talent of all the musicians. Saiki, the lead vocalists, presence and command of the audience MADE me want to see more of their work. I did, and have been hooked ever sense. I had the good fortune of attending two of their live concerts during their last U.S. tour. I hope they come back soon. I'll be there. Now, for the advenure you will embark on by jumping down the "pigeon-hole" of Band-Maid music, you will gain many more subscribers to your channel. We Maidiacs (that's what Band-Maid fans call ourselves) will be incredible supportive and will give you so many suggestions of what Band-Maid songs you should react to will be daunting. Don't worry, we're not mean, just passionate about our Maids. By the way, in keeping with the culture of maid cafes in Japan, The Maids call their concerts okyu-jis (servings) and we, their audience and fans, they call masters and princesses. Get used to that and the word "po" a lot as you react to more Band-Maid.
This song isn't over until Miku (rhythm guitar & backing vocals) does that spin. (LOL) Some song suggestions for you are Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, Without Holding Back, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, Clang, Matchless Gum, Endless Story, and both versions (live and video) of Don't You Tell Me. They have a catalog of over one hundred great songs. If you are not fond of one then choose another because it will be much different than the one before it and the next one to follow. Have fun with it!
Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band. Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).
11 years and around 130 songs in their catalog, plus a new album out in September. They don't have any bad songs, just some you'll like less than others. 😏♥️🎙🎸🥁😎🤘
Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this very performance at the venue on Nov.26, last year. Very exciting 3-hour-40-minute-long show with 33-song setlist. (Happy fatigue thereafter 😄) Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄
Welcome to Band Maid. The best thing to happen in the rock space in a generation. The Maids are known especially for their amazing variety in types of songs they deliver. Based on your comments, I think you would probably like “Warning,” official music video. It travels in a similar sonic lane as “Hate” As an old blues rock cat, this one isn’t even in my top 40 Band Maid songs. If that gives you any indication of just how deep their brilliant songwriting goes
Welcome to the fandom! I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Manners, Dice, Bubble, No God (live) & Puzzle (live) Also suggest The Warning. I suggest these TW songs: Money, Sick, Automatic Sun, Enter Sandman (with Alessia Cara), Evolve (live VMAs) & Dust To Dust (live Teatro) BTW - both bands are big fans of each other and recently made a collab song together which they debuted live on stage at joint concert last month in Tokyo & oh I was there!
My fav band ever! The best rock band on the planet IMO. Since you'll have a lot of other Band-Maid suggestions, ill just throw some out there of my other fav Japanese artists Babymetal - Road of Resistance (Live at the PIA Arena 2023) Nemophila - Adabana (MV) Hanabie - We Love Sweets (MV) Passcode - Clouds Across the Moon (MV)
Thanks for the reaction and comments. These ladies are FIRE!!!!! IMHO they are the best live rock band on the planet. Pick a random official live video. You can't go wrong. Until next time....cheers!
Thank you for taking up BAND-MAID. It is said that rock is in decline, but it was born in America, grew in England, and perfected in Japan! There are many other world-class groups active in addition to this group. They are also active in world-class music genres other than rock. Japanese music is characterized by being composed of more complex chords than typical Western music, and by the amazing abilities of the players and singers of each instrument. Please enjoy. (Translation software used)
Hate? was song #27 of 33 (3.5 hrs). That is the incredible thing about them. Being able to keep that energy up for that long, they are World class athletes in my book especially Akane (Drums). Btw, Saiki (lead V) wrote the lyrics from a 4th person prospective (Cheater, Victim, Mistress, Saiki).Side note: it appears Saiki is a "The Simpsons" fan, and wanted to use Bart's "I Hate you" phrase in a song, and here we have it, Po! 🦍🍌PS, if the characters are who many believe it is (Japanese celebrity couple + Cheater's Assistant), then, Unfortunately, the genitalman in question tried to "off" himself, but luckily survived. Both the former-husband and wife had to take some time off from their celebrity schedules to heal, Po! Sadly, this happens when we think with the wrong "head." FYI, your high EQ needs to come up to hear Kanami's (lead G, main composer) piercing leads, Po! The rest is great, especially being able to hear Miku's (rhythm G, 2nd V, main lyricist, Lead Pigeon) Zemaidis G. quite clearly for the 1st time in a while, Po! Great 1st reaction, Sir, and down the Pigeon hole we go, Po!
Thanks buddy. I am working on a bunch more of their stuff right now, so stay tuned. Also, what does Po mean? Someone mentioned that I would be seeing it alot, but didn't tell me what it means.
@@reactionaries Po! is short for cruppo, which is the sound a dove or pigeon makes, in the Japanese vernacular. An onomatopoeia, like we in 'merika would say coo! Miku Kobato's (rhythm G, 2nd V, main lyricist, founder of Band Maid) last name Kobato is translated to small pigeon. Therefore, she created/lives the pigeon character when in her "Fighting gear" (maid outfit), ending her conversations/sentences with Po! Reacting to Orenje YT channel's Band Maid members documentary (there are 5, each 30 or so minutes long), would definitely explain this and many other questions you have. Hope that helps, Po!
Great reaction and the singer, Saiki, wrote the lyrics; there was a lot of cheating occurring during covid lock down reported in the press at that time and Saiki was pissed. The singer LISA (a friend of drummer Akane) was also affected by this as her husband was caught cheating and created a big scandal. There are a lot of MV on their channel, so just pick any one, they're all great.
Just out of curiosity, what's your favourite genre, may I ask? The Maids play all types of Rock, rock subgenre fused with so many elements of different genres. As you dig deeper into their catalogue you'll start to hear so many things, and details. Chance is, you might find the types of music you actually like. Your appreciation of Saiki's vocal shows that you're already a strong candidate for maidiac. The guy in this song is a despicable cheater. With that in mind, it'll make sense why the singer sang the song in this particular way. Even if you don't become a fan, you'll still enjoy the fun journey guaranteed. 👍
Good question. I guess wouldn't say I really have a favorite genre, I just appreciate talented artists; my playlists tend to bounce around to all genres. I would however, consider myself to be a fan of this group after about the first 10 seconds of this song. They are pretty awesome!
@@reactionaries You are the same as me. My playlist covers almost all genres, including some ethnic or traditional types of music. Every time they do something different or add a new element or two, I'm excited. You'll probably hear a lot of influences that many might miss.
Thank you for your reaction. Band Maid transformed how how I think about music, in particular drum and bass, and my musical journey started with the MV for Manners. So my suggestion will be either the MV, or official online live, or both, for Manners, at some point, no rush from me; only on the same album it stands with giants. Have fun! :)
It sounds like only one side of the stereo is coming through. Half the song is gone. I can hear Akane's drums and MISA's bass but not Kanami's guitar. Everyone wonders who the song is about. Saiki doesn't usually write lyrics, so someone really pissed her off. BAND-MAID don't have a genre, or they are a genre. All of their songs are different. Tell is what you like and we'll suggest songs that fit your tastes. But if you like bangers try 'Real Existence' LIVE next.
Watch NO GOD live. Best rock band on the planet. They have a HUGE catalog. They're best heard live but there are MV's that are excellent too. The lead singer, Saiki, wrote the lyrics for this song. It's written about a guy who cheated on one of her girlfriends. Every song they do is different but they're all good. The MANNERS MV is a great song.
One of your speakers was really low..Kanamis solo was barely audible but misa was normal. Band-maid was alternating left and right audio, but one of yours was turned wayyy down.
@@reactionaries and the audio is better. Thanks Band Maid has been my favorite band since late 2015. I was tired of growling and screaming and wanted real music. This I really enjoy

Whoa. Thank you very much. This was a major help.

(Happy fatigue thereafter 😄)
Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Welcome to Band Maid. The best thing to happen in the rock space in a generation.
The Maids are known especially for their amazing variety in types of songs they deliver. Based on your comments, I think you would probably like “Warning,” official music video. It travels in a similar sonic lane as “Hate”
As an old blues rock cat, this one isn’t even in my top 40 Band Maid songs. If that gives you any indication of just how deep their brilliant songwriting goes
Welcome to the fandom! I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Manners, Dice, Bubble, No God (live) & Puzzle (live)
Also suggest The Warning. I suggest these TW songs: Money, Sick, Automatic Sun, Enter Sandman (with Alessia Cara), Evolve (live VMAs) & Dust To Dust (live Teatro)
BTW - both bands are big fans of each other and recently made a collab song together which they debuted live on stage at joint concert last month in Tokyo & oh I was there!
Very cool! Thank you 🙏

My fav band ever! The best rock band on the planet IMO.
Since you'll have a lot of other Band-Maid suggestions, ill just throw some out there of my other fav Japanese artists
Babymetal - Road of Resistance (Live at the PIA Arena 2023)
Nemophila - Adabana (MV)
Hanabie - We Love Sweets (MV)
Passcode - Clouds Across the Moon (MV)
Cool, thanks so much!!

(Translation software used)
You're welcome. Thanks for tuning in.
Thanks Papinoob!
Keep reacting - the pigeon hole of this band is deep and glorious!
It will be a fun ride.

Western Rock didn't die, it just went expat to Japan.
Seems like it.
Hate? was song #27 of 33 (3.5 hrs).
Thank you 🙏
Great reaction and the singer, Saiki, wrote the lyrics; there was a lot of cheating occurring during covid lock down reported in the press at that time and Saiki was pissed. The singer LISA (a friend of drummer Akane) was also affected by this as her husband was caught cheating and created a big scandal.
There are a lot of MV on their channel, so just pick any one, they're all great.
Thanks dude.

Um, where have you been?
Thank you for your reaction. Band Maid transformed how how I think about music, in particular drum and bass, and my musical journey started with the MV for Manners. So my suggestion will be either the MV, or official online live, or both, for Manners, at some point, no rush from me; only on the same album it stands with giants. Have fun! :)
I think i have to do their entire collection at this point. Stay tuned.

The reaction wasn't that bad, but the multicam thing doesn't work for me.
I also think it's better when you don't pause in the middle of the solos.😉

Watch NO GOD live. Best rock band on the planet. They have a HUGE catalog. They're best heard live but there are MV's that are excellent too. The lead singer, Saiki, wrote the lyrics for this song. It's written about a guy who cheated on one of her girlfriends. Every song they do is different but they're all good. The MANNERS MV is a great song.
