SF says homeless population is at lowest level in years. So why are some costs going up?

Yup it’s not a “business” just a scam where the most money goes to the top few that are absent, out of touch, or busy buying property overseas. This is the corruption of the Nonprofit Industrial Complex. They wear capes but really just cashing big checks. Not to say the one guy w the heart of gold is the one scheming. It’s the ppl at the top with absolutely NO experience in their field that run it exactly like a business.
I’m HIV positive and talked with Executives of a big HIV centered nonprofit that basically told me they had NO experience working with ppl living with HIV OR prevention programs. She gave me no referrals, no services, and really just gave fake empathy.

And I guarantee the guy they showed working for UA is still struggling or considered living under poverty line, while the chiefs and executives make 6 figures. I can list what ppl make in Executive roles for basically just gossiping on Zoom calls the entire day.

Here's a fun game: Drive to downtown SF. Count all the tents/vangrants/zombies/etc.. betcha reach a number north of 100 in no time. Then try and park your car. Then try to shop at a drug store where, if it's even open, 100% of the products are locked up. Then, get back to your car and pray it hasn't been bipped.

Enlisting the tobacco industry to fight the illicit drug industry? I guess it's the lesser of two evils, at least in the short-term. I wonder what happens if the tobacco industry wins and gets a monopoly on artificial mood modifiers. Sounds like a red queen problem if you take it to the logical extreme and don't change course.

@pumamanta1771 Can't do the time. Don't do the crime. Ask me if I care if the thugs and thieves are packed in a deporable prison like in El Salvador. That people want to prioritize crimminals' comfort over the right of decent citizens to not be robbed and assaulted is pathetic.

@bschmidt1 Oh yes they do. I live near the top of Nob Hill. In the past year they are starting to camp out around here. It's just a matter of time before there will be a lot more of them in areas away from The Tenderloin. It's time to stop bankrolling that lifestyle and crimmialize loitering. I have a feeling a year in jail for each offense, with no parole and with strict, weekly drug testing so they don't keep getting high will suddenly cure them all of their ' mental illess ' and ' inability to navigate bureaucracy ' and ' inability to feel safe interacting with co-workers and roommates ' and every other excuse to avoid personal responsibility and get high all day, every day with taxpayer resources.

This is not true, I work in SF specifically on Montgomery Street and I feel like the homelessness seemed to increase within the past month. I read on the subreddit for SF that some homeless man assaulted a delivery driver right where my train station. It seems to be getting more unsafe with these "crazy homeless" people roaming the safe street of Montgomery Street. I guess these weirdos are getting kicked out of other places that were dangerous.

There are a million ways that governments can fudge numbers. For example, 200 random people who are just temporarily down on their luck, living in their cars, etc. decide to move to Fresno or Reno where they can afford an apartment. Boom, homelessness just went down! Meanwhile the same number of addicts and mentally ill people are walking around.

Otherwise she would scream and pretend you were assaulting her if you asked her to leave. Calling the police because the most they can do is drop her off somewhere nearby (long after you first called them.)

A big problem here in CA is that the State doesn’t let private citizens, churches or nonprofits help out. You generally need a government contract (which they give their friends) or else you can be shut down or fined for helping the homeless or cleaning up public areas, etc.

I walk all over SF every week. the numbers are lower, mainly because some areas basically have no bums. Pac Hts. Clement, etc., have very few bums. Now, the alleys off Van Ness are horrific, as is the tenderloin. basically, the bums are not downtown cuz no one is there to give them money. the areas like powell are dead. In SF, a lot of the bums are drug addicts, they probably get general assistance, so they just want to score and be zombies. go steal. little panhandling because people avoid them. the get high and ride trains. I walked from Mission district to pac hts and saw only two bums, in a bus stop area with cell phones, no less.but saw no other people on the walk. SF bums again are mainly junkies, get a small check, and don't mingle with business people, etc., downtown.

There are a lot in custody/jail and the jails are overfilled. This is thanks to the “great work” by Mayor Breed so you don’t see the mentally ill and homeless just still taking your tax money tho

was in SF tonight. saw few bums until i got to Van ness and geary. at the library block and another block i counted 47 zombies, with more at civic center station as i went down. on the train a young white guy got on with a women and a dog, she immediately slumped her head on seat in front, dude nodded off and on, dog slept soundly on the seat in front. dude was very young but on a bad path...saw almost no bums on west side of van ness. they do go to trader joes and target at geary and masonic, a few tents.

The services for homeless needs to be similar to the legal immigrants. The homeless need to be in SF for more than 10 years to get it!

The information is 100% false. I don’t know who y’all are trying to play but many of us live and work here and see this BS every single day. The homeless population in San Francisco feel like it is going down but when in fact, you are seeing homeless people now parking their tents in your neighborhoods and then another and another, until it becomes an encampment.

How about the grifting off this problem as well? Why not get a social worker, inpatient care, and sustained help rather than abandonment? Bring back mental health hospitals. Some people are too mentally ill to live alone or have gainful employment. Drug rehab should be mandatory and same with mental health treatments.

It's easy to complain and extremely difficult to come up with solutions that actually work. Instead of complaining how about offering some solutions? I agree that the local government needs to be better organized and accountable for the money they're spending. But think about this, a handful of professional athletes get paid as much as this entire program costs annually, 1.5 billion, the contract for one baseball player in LA is about half that amount. We live in a pretty perverse society.
