As I recall, the first low floor bus in Croydon, where I lived, was the 408 which went out west to Sutton, Epsom and out to Guildford, run by London & Country (the local LC subsidiary). They introduced them on the 250 route which went up to Brixton along the old 159 route, but they had to withdraw them for a while because they kept grounding on the speed bumps on Green Lane (south of Streatham).
OMF Ilford has changed so much, next thing you know areas like Romford and Ilford north areas like Barkingside, collier row, Hainault will no longer have farms and be considered agricultural areas
i had that leyland lynx bus in the west midlands from 1997 to 2006 when the volvo b7 was called in to replace these old leyland lynx buses on route 44 and 27 through my road and then the route 19 was the current bus number route replaced it as of today with the diamond buses either red diamond blue diamond and black diamond
@CitytransportInfoplus They also only ran one return journey per week, that must have made people feel very isolated. One of the first bus routes to get low floor buses was the 186, the route now takes a similar route to the 958 mobility bus which ran from Edgware to Brent Cross
I wonder what quite a lot of London would be like today, if it kept and extended its tramways and trolleybus systems (esp. Traffic congestion and air pollution)
southendbuses Thanks:-) I assume that you've seen my Southend film. Alas, I did not film in Basildon or Chelmsford. I have a little more London to come - from Central London. Plus more from Manchester city centre.
I remember that, the 101 used to be a double decker and the change to a single decker low floor just didn't work on a busy route and the long stops for the wheelchair platforms.
@MusicalElitist1 I think he's more relating to the fact that England has become much more multicultural in recent years. He's not complaining about it.
I drove a good few tri-axle deckers in my time. So lovely to see public transport that looked so good back then.

Great Video, It's like being back in my childhood, esp the clips in Ilford.
Some of these buses still look so so modern! I'm so glad they started phasing out those 'silkies' !
What are the Silkies?
I was like a kid in a sweet shop seeing this....all those Titans really brought back my childhood growing up in Romford.
Amazing footage and commentary - thank you for sharing.
The 1990s were great days
5:07 That's probably where the typical exit door closing sound comes from that so many London buses use today.
OMF Ilford has changed so much, next thing you know areas like Romford and Ilford north areas like Barkingside, collier row, Hainault will no longer have farms and be considered agricultural areas
6:38 very nice looking bus
I remember the yellow city buses and the Leyland's I live in the Romford area

Not really capital city bus also has its hq in London
The RDZ Scania's @4:11 ended up in Merseyside. They were scrapped 2-3 years ago. A few still live working with smaller companies
Mobility buses! theres only a couple left in london now, I think one of them is the 903??
Sorry, I am not sure - now that most (if not all) buses are accessible so there is less need for specialist mobility public transport buses.

Ilford home of the Leyland Titan and my old Manor
Hi
Any clips of east ham?
sorry no East Ham in the 1990's but when I was there in 2019 I filmed a little - both buses and trains.
Wow it looks well different there’s not even a Tesco at Charlie Brown roundabout
where Tesco is 'today' was a home improvement / hardware shop similar to B&Q / Homebase - I think its name was something like PayLess DIY
no low-floor yet?
Love your videos of London buses. Just wondering. If you have any more from essex. Like basildon chelmsford. Rayleigh shoeburyness. Many thanks.

those low floor buses on the 101 had the first use of IBUS in London
The LCD didn't last though
I remember that, the 101 used to be a double decker and the change to a single decker low floor just didn't work on a busy route and the long stops for the wheelchair platforms.
ECW Olympians for the win!
It’s amazing how ilford is full of English people in these shots... now you’d think your in Pakistan.
@MusicalElitist1 I think he's more relating to the fact that England has become much more multicultural in recent years. He's not complaining about it.
@MusicalElitist1 Pipe it down Kid. Ilford is not a halycon of glory, nor is Romford and most of Outer East London nowadays. So pipe it down kidder.
1990s were good if you grew up in the 1990s, but if you grew up in the 1960s, the 1990s were so much worse and boring than the 1960s.
ilford
.....easy....
