    Can anyone tell me how you learnt to read korean and write it

    • @theasianbelle
      @theasianbelle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +171

      For a more detailed course for beginners, you can go to Coursera and enroll. It's free. 🙂
      When I first learned Korean, in 2018, only Yonsei University was offering Korean language courses. There were only two courses back then. I completed the first one. And didn't have the time to take the second 😅 I learned a lot from that course.
      Writing down notes could help you memorize the words but not necessary when taking the course since a PDF copy of the discussion is provided.
      The fun and motivational part of the course for me were the conversations between foreigners speaking in Korean and native Koreans. I was amazed by how fluent they were in the Korean language.
      Now, I believe Yonsei added some more courses and Sungkyungkwan University is also offering a free course.
      Though I recommend Yonsei 'cause they teach in English. The course is more understandable. In the course which Sungkyungkwan University offers, the professor speaks in Korean. It's hard to keep up with subtitles.
      Here on TH-cam, you can also search for Jenny Korean Lesson. You'll be able to find a complete playlist. The videos are numbered so it would be easy to find where you've left off.
      The videos are detailed and perfect for beginners.

    MY QUESTION IS WHY DO KOREAN WORDS SOUND DIFFERENT WHEN YOU USE THEM IN A SENTENCE!?

    • @theasianbelle
      @theasianbelle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +482

      Hello, in Korean pronunciation changes happen. The change depends on what's next or what's beside a character. For example, 밥 (bap) which is food or rice, if you use a particle next to it, let's say, 은 (eun) pronunciation becomes 밥은 (babeun). Why? Because the next syllable is a vowel. The sound of the last syllable is carried unto the next.
      Also there are other special cases like how ㅂ (b) carries the sound M if used next to ㄴ (n). Example, 있습니다. Instead of reading it as isseubnida, it is pronounced as isseumnida.
      I haven't made a video about it but you can search for KOREAN RULES OF BATCHIM for the complete list. Hope that helps!

    • @theasianbelle
      @theasianbelle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +250

      I think, the rules of batchim makes it easier for people to pronounce each word.

      @@saratonin45 well, you should try to reviewing what your learned everyday. that's it. that's why people can learn quickly. they have to review the same thing 'till you memorise it. for example: write all the words in this video and then, after three days do it again. rewrite it and you'll see that you know almost every word. if you don't, don't worry, time will let you know. I know it's hard, you know, its 100 words but I'm here after write everything even if I know almost everything, because I know this will make me better in korean.

    For writing, pronunciation and memory practice I've put the video on a bit slower and am writing, saying and reading the words as they go.
    I'm planning on doing this multiple times to get a good grasp on remembering them :)

    I started learning Korean from the end of high-school and whenever I got time in med. Yeah life has gotten really busy but I still try and squeeze in time. Looking forward to the day I can carry out a conversation with someone. Funny enough whenever I learn new languages I always find it easier to read and write than to speak. Hoping I find someone I can practice with

    Super useful. Many thanks for making this 🙏🏻
    Fun fact: I’ve been studying Korean on and off for a couple of years… never made a significant progress although it seems I can read correctly it most of the times. I pause the video before each word try to guess then check with your pronounce. I’m still in love with it 😻
