Anthony Perkins was a superb actor in this....he literally made you think he was insane with his facial expressions. It’s difficult to imagine an older, bald man in the role, as was in the novel. Hitchcock made the right choice.

If you look very closely at Norman's face when he smiles, you can see the subliminal teeth of a skeleton. there are a lot of subliminal photos imposed on the movie. It was a masterpiece of terror for the time it was made.

Just a few notes; I actually had to spend 3 months studying 'Psycho' in a film-class, and I'd like to point out #1, it wasn't the first toilet on screen, but it WAS the first toilet-FLUSH! Also, #2, the story about the chocolate-syrup has never really been confirmed. Many stories have been spread around over the years, suggesting many different substances being used, from the typical red-paint, to even strawberry syrup! And last, #3, the choice of black & white over color was done for aesthetic reasons more than anything, and would not be the last Hitchcock production to do so. That being said; great video! This is one of my favorite films!

One of my favorite horror movies. Loved Psycho II as well, which I actually saw before the original. The shower scene is definitely chilling to watch. I still remember how back in 2003 I'd gone on a 4-day trip (my first vacation as an adult since previous trips had been when I was a kid with my family). I spent three nights at a bed and breakfast where I was vacationing, and the first time I went to get in the shower, the scene from Psycho popped into my head. Even though I wasn't afraid of the folks running the place, I did go and double check to make sure I had the door to my room locked.

I remember seeing Psycho when I was a teen. I lived on an Army base in Germany. It was terrifying, though the soldiers had a nasty way of laughing at parts. I walked home all shook up and when I reached the front door to unlock it (the folks were out doing something and I wasn't supposed to go see the movie) something brushed against my right legs. I screamed and freaked and ran across the road, turned around, and saw our cat all scared and running in circles. Poor cat it just wanted to claim me. The scariest part about Psycho that seems to get out a lot is it actually could happen. Micheal Myers, all the other supernatural funny people aren't that scary. But someone coming in your bathroom and hacking you up in the shower. That actually happens. Well not recently, I haven't done it for a while. (That was a joke I haven't done that. Being slashed in a shower).

Enjoying your "10 Things You Didn't Know" uploads. Another interesting thing I've heard about this movie, (I think I heard it on TCM, so it must be true) is that in it's original release, Alfred Hitchcock required the theaters showing it, to replace their light bulbs with blue bulbs, and keep them on dim during the showing of the film. I guess he thought the blue hue on the screen would enhance the ambiance for the audience. I think I'll try it in my home the time time I watch it...

My man, Minty! Could you look into doing a 10 things about "the cemetery man?" It's an obscure Italian zombie film from the early 90s. Seems right up your alley, and it's absolutely one of my favorite films! There's not a whole lotta folks talking about it, and I'd love to see a discussion opened up!

Filled me with this existential dread (not that I knew what that even was at the time) that stuck with me for years. Any movie that has a decade plus effect on a person deserves to be remembered!
