Ratnadeep Supermarkets is well known supermarket chain in South India. They were looking at saving energy consumption and cost by changing their existing lighting with energy efficient lighting. Philips Lighting team showcased the benefits of LED lighting and convinced the customer to use Philips GreenLEDi, our new LED downlighter range. With this product, customer has seen a significant reduction in energy consumption and costs and are also getting better lighting than before.

When thinking about lighting any retail store there are two important considerations. Make the merchandise visible by good lighting and create the right image of the store for your target audience. If you make the store look luxurious but you are selling low cost products you will confuse the customer. Similarly if you have basic lighting but are selling high value products this will not make sense to the customer who will expect a luxurious environment.
Simple lighting will provide an overall wash of light over the whole store. More luxurious lighting will provide a lower level of general lighting supplemented by local light on the merchandise.
Always consider lighting the walls above the counters as that is what is seen by passers by and shows the shop is open for business. Many shops use downlights on their own and despite the light level the merchandise and the store can look dark giving the impression it is closed.
So there are many possibilities for lighting your store but following these basic rules will ensure the lighting is right for your business.
