No word of a lie.. Probably my favourite DJ set ever.. I re-played it for years. Dave Clarke a couple of weeks before.. Everyone that heard it in my smokey house 94 commented on how good it was and wanted to know where I got it. I became a legend for just having this on tape. I recorded it because I had just bought Moby - Hymn, 2 weeks before.. And it had a Laurent Garnier mix on it that blew me away. Still does
Bro I could talk for hours about old tapes, and certain mixes becoming legendary, passed down through rumour and second hand copies. You could definitely get some social status points for being the keeper of a sought after mix Some essential mixes will have a place in my heart forever, this being one of them, and the 96 snap mix maybe more so. Not to mention Oakie's Goa mix... need i say more. I remember the dilemma when you only had a 90 tape available, and had to set your timer and choose to miss the start or the end half hour of the mix. Sometimes the cutoff was heartbreaking but there was nothing you could do unless a mate had recorded it... but I was the essential mix guy in my group so it was down to me usually. 120 tapes were the one but the tape was thin and prone to getting chewed up in car stereos, and you couldn't get decent metal tapes in 120. I remember making covers out of old rave flyers and rub down lettering. Proper proud of my tapes I was. I went on holiday to Austria in 93 wen I was 17, and the bartender at our hotel was this really cool guy who smoked hash with us after hours at the hotel bar... he gave me this amazing trance mixtape that I simply labelled 'Austrian Trance' and took back to the UK with me. That was one of those legend mixes, now lost to time with no way of finding what it was now. It still haunts me to this day. Thankfully I now have pretty much every essential mix ever recorded on my computer. But that Austrian Trance mix will haunt me forever!
I'm currently just waiting for it to end so I can turn off the music and get on with the less fun parts of my life. I just love love love Jam & Spoon. And great placement by Garnier right at half-time in the set.
boss this one i dont think ive got it or heard it b4 . did you see laurent on djs and beers with chris leibing o n thursday night this week ? it was great to listen to him bloody good show lots of history
