I'm not against an item-meta but it needs to change as it is. A lot of the items (such as assist trophies) don't work in stock style battles. They give to much of an advantage when lives are scarce. If this was just a timed battle where lives are infinite, assist trophies would be fine.
No items work in a competitive setting. They are all completely random - which can also be referred to as Unreactable RNG - which is strictly anti-competitive.
says the person sucking getting items. in reality if you lose to items then you sucked at acquiring them, you sucked at stopping your opponent to get a and avanatge. the yoshi player did it right. he was better AND took the items to dominate. if you dont do that in an item match and you lose, you deserve it
@@MikePhantom so when let's say you are fighting it out, you get the crappy star from the trophy after pressing the advantage, then a random bobomb hits you off the level and your opponent gets jeff or tikki from the trophy, that doesn't sound like skill

Plus, competitive play is supposed to be a test of skill, and items add unfair RNG that nullifies the skill factor of competitive. Say what you like about items, but hey do not belong in competitive. Period.

(I am a competitive player myself) Just remember that Nintendo is almost there to helping out our competitive scene. It's a start at least. This is pretty awful to watch. And seeing at how many views this is getting compared to pools and local tournaments, I would hope nintendo revises their ruleset to not include items, smash balls, have legal stages, and all the other nonsense cut out.

The Smash community normalized what makes a Smash game competitive, but that doesn't mean Nintendo has to agree with it.
