Unfortunately south Asian women are more likely to kills themselves than runaway. They have a very high suicide rate in the UK. Very tragic when you look into it. However, I did see a show about a forced marriage patrol that goes around trying to rescue women and girls and sometimes even men.

I never understood why people would leave their country and traditions and move their family some place Western and still want to keep their old traditions - stay in your own country if you want to keep tradition. It's not fair to the children who want to conform to what you brought them to.

Its so sad that 'communities ' have so much influence over everything we do. We need 'greater education' of all the different 'cultures' living in society. May you know that people 'care' for you. Families and traditions need to be understood by 'all' in society. Abusive behaviour needs to be dealt with sensitivity and the victims must be listened to and abusers brought to account. The evil of people is hard to understand. Evil upon evil. May we have 'proper' justice for the victims of domestic abuse. May you be strong and know that there 'are' caring people out there. Your trauma will heal and you will grow even stronger day by day.

There are small towns in Mexico where this still happens, I remember going to my aunt's house on the country every summer, one year I couldn't find a friend I did over the years on the field my aunt worked at. Later she told me her mom had her hidden (with my aunt's help) bc his father was trying to sell her since she turned 13 and according to their culture if someone saw a girl they liked the deal could be done right there. This family wasn't from my state, they traveled to work on different parts of the country depending on the season and it's a common practice were they are from. Luckily they found my aunt and she was able to help the family escape from that man.
And that's what happens on the Mexican fields while your pecan nuts are growing

I'm no one to say this to a person who's been through so much their entire life but to any other person going through it, please please try to be self independent first before getting into relationships again. The world is too cruel, you can't trust no one. The only way out is the self independence, to see the world around before sticking to a person. And get to know them before committing. It's so much harder in the third world countries but I hope that woman get access to education more. Knowledge is the only way to strive in today's world.

My learning from listening to Rubie story and others like that, is that we should be paying attention to sharing of others and look for signs. Just be simply caring and curious.
We all, every individual have to become the social support for all humanity.
Especially teachers, people who get to interact with kids, but also encourage our own kinds to make friends with other children, especially the ones who act differently than others. Invite them as parents for visits, dinner and just be present.
Maybe we could be able to help those children earlier.

NO Adult...No Matter What their Profession...
NO matter what title they hold...
    NO Matter What economic Status,...
    NO Matter What their Culture...
NO Matter what race, Creed, or Color...
NO ADULT wheather, they are a Adult Caretaker of children, teacher, parents, aunts, uncles, or anyone else, should have any sexual attraction to children, this is very disturbing to me, Very Strange, Odd, Demented, Sick, Weird, and Outrageous to me.
*THERE IS NOTHING about a child, male, or female is attractive sexually, Nothing
*Children are children as should be treated as such.
    *They are NOT mature
*They have NO COMPREHENSION of Sex.
They have NO COMPREHENSION of Romance
*Sex and intimacy is in nature biologically is designed for Adults,
    NOT CHILDREN.
I Cannot Comprehend any Adult thinking of a child a such a inappropriate manner.
    *This is a previous response I wrote to an article on Child Marriage;
I don't understand why anyone would attempt to marry a child, this is unthinkable, children are not capable of Romantic Relationships, they cannot process adult Relationship lifestyles.
*They are children and function as children, they are being placed, and forced in adult Relationship situations, and they cannot process nor understand it until they are Adults.
*Nothing about a child is capable of handling a Romantic Relationships, Physical Relationships, Mentality handling Adult Relationships, and Lifestyles and financial matters.
*A Child cannot understand the Deeper Matters of the Hearts, or
    Deep involved Love connections etc.
*So, it baffles me to think any man would be interested in a relationship with a child.
*Why not choose an Adult Woman who is matured in Mind, Body, and Spirit, intelligence...?
*I could NEVER be attracted to s child.
*(I have NEVER, NEVER BEEN attracted to a child nor teenager male or female)
*Children need to be focused on getting their early childhood education, and growing up around other children and playing with other children.
*I cannot fathom why a man would be interested in a Child as a Bride,( or any intimate sexual manner whatsoever)
Sexual attraction towards a child is Madness, and Unnatural, and Demented thinking
*A Child could NEVER appreciate Romance, Poems, Dinning, or a Dinner date etc.
Really! marry a child...this makes No sense to me!
(I have NEVER, NEVER IN MY LIFE BEEN attracted to a child nor teenager male or female)
    This is beyond my comprehension.......

Arranged Marriage needs to become more flexible, especially in the Pakistani community , where 1st cousin marriages, have been practised for generations. I'm white Scots/Irish and my husband is actually my 3rd cousin, who was introduced to me , by his elder brother. Funnily enough, we absolutely fell in love quickly, under his persistent watchful eye!! Uk Asians should consider this option - grandparents related and even Great Grandparents related, even if it's another sibling's line. It would also maybe help with domestic violence (a hidden scourge)

    • @h.s.l6875

Right. But i think it's important to distinguish between arranged marriages and forced marriages, in the former the girl can say 'no', in the latter she can't, and had to follow her parents (father/male relatives) wishes.

What a life 😓. I just dont understand parents who claim to love their children but harm them in this unspeakable manner. They will always use religion to control women, they- at the same - time even have the audicity to say that women should be treated special and with honour and that they should respect their rights- which islam does demand- but these are only words that do not come in practise, they ruin her instead. Ive seen it happen many many times. Even the mothers who might have gone through the same exact thing will not hesitate to put their daughters through hell.
