On May 5, 2012, Universal Studios Florida performed the new Universal's Superstar Parade for the first time for guests in a sneak preview. It officially debuts on May 8. Included in the roughly 10-minute parade are characters from Despicable Me including Gru and his Minions, Bikini Bottom residents SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Starfish, Squidward Tentacles, and Gary the snail, as well as Dora & Diego and familiar furry faces from Hop.
I was waiting for one of the spongebob fish to fall over and scream "My Leg!"
Whoever is playing spongebob.....GOALS THEY LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE HAVING A GOOD TIME!
Also, THAT DORA IS THE CREEPIEST THING IN THE WORLD. HER EYES BURN MY SOUL.
I feel like a parade with a similar vibe to the new night time show would have been great, celebrating Universal's history.

The random Universal dudes walking around with no costumes really sucks the life out of the whole thing. Maybe they're there at Disney and just not noticeable because I was actually looking at the floats. Also, I know I'm not a kid anymore, but I really can't imagine anyone getting excited over "That bunny from Hop" and "Children from Despicable Me" There has to be some other characters they can jam in there that would be more exciting then that.
The Dora in this parade reminds me of Chucky from Child's Play.

Disney have less watchers in a certain area. There are usually 1 on each side for every other float but the floats at Disney are usually so big and amazing you never notice them.

We dont have aerialists anymore, because of budget cuts, but we do have stilt walkers in Jammin Jungle.

they need more guest interaction! then the parade would be fine, and some more floats....
It's pleasing the audience that matters. The parade I saw at Six Flags Over Texas was a little better.
WOW there's 4!!! That really makes a huge difference, thanks for the correction. What a game changer.....not. Nobody ever said they actually sing either. You think guest interaction is boring????? Then why is Disney SO SUCCESSFUL?!?! because that's what everything in Disney is designed around.
I like the fact that they didn't use robot spongebob like they did at King's Island
just add Kung Fu Panda, MegaMind, Shrek, and the Once-lers sweet ass and we got a show!
They have other shows during the day and they can't quite interact because of the floats sensors. They stop moving if people get too close

Disney does have stilt walkers in their parades. And most of them do more than just jumping and spinning. I know one that Skips, High Kicks, Hops on one stilt in a circle, Bend over backwards and touches the floor.. Yeh Universal 1, Disney 1
Sorry to burst your bubble but yes. Even if they didn't Disney parades have plenty more and are much higher quality.

I understand they are TRYING to compete with Disney with the parades and stuff, but just stick to the good rides and Halloween specials. :D

I agree with others that the ropes used for safety harnesses look stupid and unsafe (IE: Squidward's little rope handle). I'm not trying to compare them to Disney's harness and hidden pole system (Hidden or sometimes just visible panted poles the connect to the back of all performers) but really Universal can't you think of something better?
I believe so, just a guess though.
Block Party also had a stilt if you were paying attention. However, Disney has not combined this many elements in YEARS! (I'm referring to World, not Land because Disneyland actually does stuff right.)

Loved your video, great detail. I sort of feel sorry for Universal because they try but just doesn't match up to Disney parades but when you watch a Disney parade your are spoilt for the characters. You see Woody and Buzz and then oh here comes Snow White and you're always excited to see the next float. Universal just doesn't have the same feel to it. Do agree that they should be using Shrek and Donkey.

It was so empty... it was like watching a high-budget girl scout parade....
And I only counted 67 performers. Thought there was suppose to be 200 +?? haha
I really think this parade could have been vastly improved if Universal had just chosen some better source material. I quite liked the Spongebob section, but the Nickelodeon influence is so little at Universal now it just feels out of place. Hop was a terrible movie. Dora isn't as big as she used to be. Am despicable me wasn't an instant classic either.
The actual construction wasn't bad. Costumes were good and the floats were nice. I think the SB section had the best theming over all. I feel

That whole parade was just awkward. No interaction, its just like they were passing through while bopping along to some weird music without singing. And only 3 main floats?
What kind of camera do you use? It has good quality, and seen from other videos, it's waterproof.

You do know that Disney's Magic Kingdom Parade right now only has 5 floats TOTAL while Universals has 4 large floats with 9 smaller floats? I've been a Disney entertainment employee for 7 years now and still going, and their quality has gone very much downhill. Maybe this will get them to finally put money into their poor quality entertainment these days.
I' sorry, I don't want to hate or be mean but Disney is of much higher quality when it comes to....Everything! Comparing this to Mickey's Soundsactional Parade Disney has won again. they have better floats, interactions, music, harnesses, computer systems (on the floats), etc.

I still believe Universal should just leave Disney to making the parades and everything similar. This is definintely not Universal's style.

It seems there are more people in yellow shirts walking with the parade then in the parade itself.
And why Hop? Was Hop that big a hit in America because it certainly wasn't in Europe as far as I know.

There are actually 4 main units with 2-3 additional smaller floats with each unit. Singing along? Come on, nobody actually sings, at Disney they lip sync and then look ridiculous when you get close enough to realize they aren't singing. Audience participation is such a bore.
Ive seen better parades at Cedar Fair parks.
