As chermo44 so kindly pointed out, at the beginning I say it's in E major/c minor. However, it's supposed to be in E major/c# minor (and also in C# major or Db major during the chorus).

Guitar and piano are very different instruments, aren't they? I fiddle around on the guitar, but it's so hard to wrap my head around the 6 different strings and then positioning my fingers on the neck and near the strings... it's just hard! Good for you for trying a different instrument out!
Performed it to her on my guitar when we were still talking. Unfortunately, we didn't end up together. I've been wanting to play the piano and this is my favorite song so I am trying to learn it. Thank you for doing this tutorial. You deserve a like and sub!

I have a hard time playing the two hands together. I'm use to hit the note at the same time but it seem some of them are in between, do you have a sheet music I can look at? (My mother tongue is french, if I'm not clear, just tell me)

i have played guitar by ear for 20 plus years, i wanted to learn this song for my fiance who is from the Philippines, my goal was to play this for her on our wedding night. You have inspired me so much, I love your style of teaching, i never played the keys before and it's a very difficult skill to learn once youve trained your ear for a certain instrument. The day is yet to come, but thats good because i need sooo much practice! I find it hard to use both hands at the same time, i mean, i can play one part at a time and not both together. Yes, they are VERY different! Guitar has been alot easier for me than piano. Still I admire you, keep it up! You are an awesome teacher!

I'm the same way. Aside from the fact that my fingers hurt trying to play the guitar, I just couldn't get the hang of the chord placements on the instrument. I just find piano alot easier to play lol.

Actually, they both did it! Switchfoot probably did it first. I think I learned that a long time ago but forgot. Switchfoot's version is different, and this tutorial is for the Mandy Moore version, but for someone who wants to do a cover of the song, this is adequate for both versions.
I'm glad it's helpful. I definitely don't advocate this as the only way to learn music, but I think it helps get people motivated to learn!

It's in fact in the key of C#min. It just starts on its median which is E. :)

There's no such thing as B#......
Alison Lim technically, there is. Its C. Not commonly used, but it is used every now and then. In a C# harmonic minor scale, it's a B#.
