    Thanks for this, it's the only video I found which matched my van (although I have a quarter-light), and you gave me the confidence to use enough force (and it was quite a lot of force), to get the window in.
    Definitely a multi-person job, it took me, my wife and my brother to get it done

      Nice job! I know, multiple times I thought I was going to break the window...but it held up!

    One thing I would recommend, as I've done this as well, at least up until putting the window back I'll admit, taking the cover off of the sliding rail right under the window is really easy and is only held on with 2 screws. Remove it, remove the seal, and sanding/painting the inside of the window sill will be easier! Awesome video in any case!

      That is a really good point. The fact that it is so easy to take off really makes it a no brainer. It frees up some space to work the seal in. Thanks for mentioning that!

    awesome tutorial! thx for the tip with the weedwacker string.
    One question/concern though. When you use the soapy water, won't that trap moisture under the seal contributing to rust down the road? Honest question, my windows going back in this weekend.

    • @kekanipahu
      @kekanipahu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that definitely was a concern..."where is this soapy water going to go?" It is not going to evaporate under that seal. All I know was that there was no way that window and seal were going to get where they needed to go without a lubricant. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Very interesting video. Thanks for the WW lead. You do your window install backwards from the way I've done it. Probably doesn't matter. I put the rubber seal on the car first. The rope or string goes in the glass channel and you lay the glass over the seal and pull out the strings and wah lah it's installed. Only takes one person.

    • @kekanipahu
      @kekanipahu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great idea, it never occurred to me to try it that way. Thanks for the tip, I will give it a go the next one I do!

    • @msach4277
      @msach4277 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, you must have two strings one to pull the lip of the rubber over the glass facing inside, and another for the channel lip toward the outside.. I would love to see this done.

    • @jimgeorge6220
      @jimgeorge6220 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@msach4277 No not the way I've done it. However I've decided that that the way I was shown and have done it is not the way it is done by anyone else. The rubber is placed on the flange and the cord is in the glass notch then the glass laid on the rubber and the cord pulls the rubber over the glass.

    Making it look easy ! The american chrome can be an added complication... me and the pro took 1 1/2 hours to install a windshield in the 71. Flat palm ! I do have a local glass guy that will come to my house when it comes time for the vanagon, I better tip him well ! I have a lot to do... thanks !

    • @kekanipahu

      I definitely would have paid a professional to do this job. Unfortunately, no one in my town will even touch these old cars. They are afraid of breaking a window and having to try and find a replacement. I'm kind of glad in a way, though, because now I can do it on my own! thanks for the feedback.

      @@kekanipahu update, the vanagon is home. So is a Syncro, and I just put the rear windshield in the syncro, solamente, yea, lots of walking around the bus, but all in 10 min !! Like the guy who sold me the syncro, you are lucky ! I'll let you know how it goes with a NEW seal on the westy...that should be as soon as I get the windows back from tinting
