Dude...THANK YOU!!! i've been try figure out how I could start recording my Aqua-vu footage, once I upgrade to an HD 7i and out of nowhere, you have answered all my questions in one go, great video, definitely going on my saved videos for future reference :D right on Jay.
Jay. You should add something called "In the Shop with Jay"... and do some "how too" instructional vids on setting up rigs, etc. and other stuff. It would increase viewership and you could help pump out even more vids easier. Your videos are the best...well, Clayton's Schick's are also great. Keep up the work. We really enjoy what you do and lean a lot. Don't stop. No Surrender...
That rig is so sweet, I wish I had the knowledge to do that stuff with more items. I don’t really want to film but just getting the extra charger and USB ports connected are so helpful for any device
Hey Jay, I have 715C and was wondering if there are any tips on adjusting the settings to help see in murky water. Or a way to get better clarity. Also, do you have any tips for if it's dark? I find the IR LEDs don't work too well.
Nice mods, Jay!! Instead of crimping and heat shrinking, maybe try soldering the wires together then heat shrinking the cable. The soldered connection is a far more positive connection when done correctly, and if you are going to get into doing modifications, soldering is a great skill to have in your toolbox. My weapon of choice is a Hakko FX-888D, I've had this soldering gun/station for several years and it has far and away earned back the couple hundred (less I think) I spent on it. It is a comfortable and intuitive unit to cut your teeth on and grow with.
Hey Jay. Great Video. Just for your information that connector you bought is technically called an SAE Two Pin Connector. Just a little tidbit for intel.
I seen the video when you caught them big pike and the audio you used when they were coming in to hit the bait was awesome it was like they were big submarines coming in for the kill!! The video was so awesome it was almost like it was fake! I couldn’t believe you could get that good of video on the aqua view cameras! Way better than the one I had years ago!
Aqua vu also makes a external battery cable that plugs into your charging port it won't charge your battery but will power your device costs 30 dollars an can add a 12 volt battery to it for additional run time. Your idea was good but what the most frustrating part of your idea on replacing the battery it came with was battery size I went with a 12 volt 54 amp lithium Dakota battery that will last 21 hours run time over kill but there is no cosmetic features required or worrying if the new battery u got will last long enough
Jay I just gotta say I have absolutely loved your videos lately! You have had some super cool content that has been very informative. You have also made me want to get Garmin Livescope super bad! Hopefully one day! Keep it up man!
Jay, I'd love to see you go out with no equipment except straight hooks and line and minnows, get some sticks from the treeline and show the people how they did it old school.
I am doing this on the weekend . Hope it works good for me same way i am doing it but i am using a usb connector from can tire that connects right to the pig tail to charge
Battery size is a issue too if it would fit in the slot after replacing the other with the aqua vu external cable any size 12 volt battery will be good but will be plugged in externally
Sweet video Jay! I guess im treating myself for christmas again lol. Just got back fishing for Lakers and burbot in Alaska and wished i had that setup on my hd7i. Love it when the fish smacks the camera.
What is the lifetime of these lithium batteries? Do people find they last a lot longer than lead acid, or do guys find they have to replace them about as often?
How you tried the Aqua-vu mini? I asked for one for Christmas and I was wondering if you could give me an idea off it works good or not? I was also wondering how well you can see in darker water? Keep up the good work can’t wait for more ice fishing
Hey Jay 1:45 i see an ion auger extension any chance you wanna part with with it? I'll buy it of course. -47 in Sask means deep ice and with covid no fishing gear left in the universe. Had all my gear stolen on the fall still trying to replace stuff. Just a shot in the dark!!? Great video!
Anyone know what the pro feature or features adds to the unit compared to the base model? Looking a purchasing one and want to know the difference. Also, have a done a modification like this, I've attached a solar panel to my camera and had enough power to run the camera without the battery connected. Has to be a sunny day. But saves battery life, used the camera all day on one battery not using the battery most of the day.
Good tip for the solar panel! Screen brightness can vary between the 7i and 7i pro. Also features like camera direction depth, on screen displays, cable length etc. They list the differences here. www.aquavu.com/aqua-vu-product-comparison
1 other thing I found out the ah which is amps is the amount of power your battery has it reflects on how long it will last not how much power is running through your machine this is something I didn't know till I researched batteries the higher the amp the battery is the longer it will last but the cost will increase also I spent $429 on my battery but will power anything requiring 12 volts of power for 21 hours
I finally stopped being lazy and rigged up my camera like this. It was actually really easy, I can't believe I waited so long to do it. Can't wait to capture some underwater strikes!
Great video Jay! I see the links for most of the items in the video but do you have the links for the piggy back terminal piece and also that slick little cover to close up the hole you drilled? HD7 vs HD7pro? Is it worth it?
Since there is no switch or fuses, are the USB ports always drawing power? How will that impact the life of the battery? Sorry if these are noob questions, electrical engineering is not my strong suit. It looks super clean, though. Well done.
The lakes near me haven’t even frozen over yet yesterday it was 24° for the whole f***ing day today it’s 42° what the actual f**k Does Gardiner want me to go ice fishing

Awesome stuff Jay! This consistent content has been the best part of early winter so far!
Thanks Noah!

Great video, love the modifications
Love the innovation factor of this video! Very clever, good job!
Caught a 14 inch perch today on the ice, it was a fun fight
Combining stuff like that on a flasher is handy too, I put a dual port usb and a Bluetooth speaker in mine. Thanks for the video man!

Great Video. Very informative. You are a great instructor on the subject of ice fishing.

Love your videos
We need more vids jay!
How come you never talk about archery? What kind of bow you shooting? Do you get out hunting much in the fall?

Whats the main difference between the hd7i and the 715c looking at buying one.
Video quality and screen brightness are the main differences. www.aquavu.com/aqua-vu-product-comparison
