The much-missed Montserrat Figueras with her daughter, Ariana Savall on the harp and her husband, Jordi Savall, on viola, together and apart, exemplify the high culture of the Western Tradition whose greatness comes, no small part, from including traditions across borders to create a diverse and jeweled musical repertoire that has life and dignity in it. They exalt mutual aesthetic appreciation of other cultures musical wealth. A priceless cultural treasure, they are a repository of the Western musical tradition. When I hear that kids don’t want to hear classical music, I get it. If youngsters were exposed to this kind of alive and brilliant music as part of cultural education, then they could be taught that the real roots of the West are like this.

why do you stress so much that this is "Western Tradition" ? 1. The western musical instruments would not exist without their eastern ancestors 2. In some aspects the eastern tradition is much richer 3. Just the Savall Family shows very strongly their appreciation of those facts. But you are rght - we should do everything we can to make youngsters familiar with such musical trasures.
