Ruwayda Ali I know this was for Khriz, but start slow if you have to! Don’t feel the need to take it all on at once, small changes over time do wonders for your happiness and Veggie-success! Also the new Canada food guide if a really good resource for healthy vegetarian/vegan eating (minus the animal products)! Last tip would be definitely keep reading and getting educated/having conversations. Good luck!!!!!

@@grego4835 I added 11lbs of muscle in the last year over a 7 month period eating 100% plant based (3000 to 4000 Cal's) which is more than I've ever done on a meat diet so what's your point? Both out stories are just anecdotal evidence that some people have the ability to do it and others don't, be it education, the actual varerity in their diet or simply others have better, more efficient digestion than others who knows. I'd say you just did it wrong, but then how would I know I'm not you?
It's entirely possible, the studies are there and there are athletes out there thriving.

Doubt is a mood killer. I had several tries on and off the vegan diet over 10 years. It is that moment your heart opens up, you cry some tears and you make peace with all living beings when you never go back. That peace makes every meal without animal the most nutritious for heart and mind.

Its is a choice to eat they way that someone wants to eat. You cant force someone to be a vegan if they dont want to and you cant force a vegan to eat meat. It's a choice, it's free will and everyone has it. 1 in 6 Americans get sick from their food because it is factory farmed. 1 in 26 uk people get sick from their food as their food isn't as widely factory farmed as they promote local farmers. I am a livestock farmer and I have to treat my animals a certain way or my farm will be gotten rid of. Farms like mine struggle to make 20k a year before taxes while factory farms are earning millions. I know it you respond to me then you will say that I shouldn't kill my animals and I should farm vegan products. But if I did that then wildlife in my area would die off. Example hedgehogs. They eat insects. In the 80s there was 36 million in the uk. Now there's less than 1 million because of the use of fertilizers and mainly herbicides on crops.

Herbivores, carnivores and omnivores all have canines. Gorillas, for example, are herbivores and yet they have massive canines that protrude like fangs, definitely far bigger than ours. Same goes for hippos, who actually have the largest canines on Earth despite being herbivorous!

Damn. I grew up on a farm, fully aware of what slaughter looks like and how individuals can do everything in their power to make death humane and grow the animals to have a genuinely good life (until they're slaughtered), and I'm still reconsidering my pov. I hear everything he says and agree with the majority of it. You come to realise, will I make a change, because I agree with all the principles, or is it just too easy to turn a blind eye because a large amount of the world does too and it's so normalised?
Audio only story was intense and great to hear the background of where he comes from. Hearing about what he's overcome lends his vegan 'conversion' attempt a hell of a lot more credibility.

Suzy Mae I know how hard it is in this dang society where things are so normal, I mean hundreds of years ago a lot of things were normal and now we see them as illegal and repulsive. Especially growing up on a farm, surrounded by slaughter practises being told that it is a norm must be so engraved in the mind, it’s sad how as a kid we can get a ‘happy’ meal at McDonald’s, literally the ultimate brainwash. I guess being vegan and vegetarian is breaking away from what we have been told is right. Which is so hard to question your belief on right and wrong. Anyways good luck if you decide to change some of your diet Suzy 😂

The arguments for adopting a vegan lifestyle are three fold, ethical/moral, health, and environmental. So even if you don't find the ethical argument compelling consider that the large majority of the independent science (not funded by industry) says that eating animal products with any regularity will damage our health as will highly refined plant foods (so junk food vegans aren't do their health any favors either). 70+% of all chronic diseases in the US are caused by the Western Diet and sedentary lifestyle. Also think about the damage to the health of our economy that treating but never curing all this chronic disease causes.
The science also firmly says that with the exception of B12 (which is only made by bacteria which is then bio-accumulated by animals, BTW) there is no nutritional reason to eat any animal product. So if you care about your health, then the closer to a whole food vegan diet you can get the better your odds of living a long and healthy life.
The United Nation Food and Agriculture Organization (UN/FAO) looked at the environmental impact of animal agriculture. They found that animal agriculture contributes more towards global warming (18%) than the entire transportation sector (14%). That is the CO2 and other gases from every car, truck, bus, train, plane and ship does not equal the global warming impacts of meat, eggs and dairy. Other researchers included other factors associated with animal agriculture such as all the CO2 that would have been trapped in the forests that were burned down to make room for grass for animal grazing or soybean field to feed to the animals and the part of the transportation and power sectors devoted to transporting animals and refrigerating the resulting meat, eggs, and dairy and came up with estimates of 30% to as high as 50%. The most recent UN climate panel estimate is that we have just 12 years to cut our total greenhouse gas emission IN HALF to avoid truly disastrous global warming. The pledges and plans of the countries signed onto the Paris Climate Accord represent only half of the needed reduction. And no country is meeting even this low bar. But the US and all industrial countries could meet their Paris goals TOMORROW if they only eliminated animal products! No new technology, no switching over our entire electrical infrastructure to renewable and non-emitting power sources is required. Just change what we eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
In addition to global warming impacts 80%-90% of all deforestation in the Amazon is to support animal agriculture. Animal agriculture is responsible for a similar percentage of all the farmable land lost to desertification. Half of all freshwater is used to grow feed for animals, to water animals and to process their dead bodies. It is also responsible for almost all species extinctions. 200 years ago people and our domestic animals made up about 10% of the mammalian biomass on the planet. Today that percentage is reversed with people and our animals making up 96% of the mammalian biomass. In just a few decades we could live in a world where the only mammals left on the planet are humans, cats, dogs, pigs, cows, goats, sheep and horses and a few orphaned wild animals in zoos and sanctuaries. The same is true for birds where chickens now account for 75% of the biomass of all birds. And if fishing continue without change, we will have essentially fishless oceans in 30 years. But if we all went vegan we would only need about 10%-15% of the land that is currently being farmed and grazed. The rest if the arable land and all of the oceans could be allowed to return to a natural state.
So even if you don't find the ethics of killing sentient beings without a nutritional need to be a compelling reason, our personal health and the health of our only home are still powerful reasons to eliminate animals from our diet.

I think you mean the Faunalytics’ Study that lamped vegetarians and vegan together. It's funny how you _''epidemiology which are flawed in nature''_ and then you _''Also there’s a reason why 85% of vegans go back to eating meat and the stupid ones look like crap after 5 years onwards.'';_ Can you be any more biased than that?
      www.plantbasednews.org/post/do-84-vegans-and-vegetarians-give-up-diets
      (Creddit to /u/yourveganfallacyis)
I suspect your big misconception here is that humans have any need whatsoever to eat the bodies of other animals. As it turns out, there are actually a number of high quality sources for determining if meat and dairy are healthy or not, but one of my favorites is Dr. Greger; he's not a "vegan" per se., but rather is an MD, a researcher in the field of nutritional science, and is internationally renowned for his deep knowledge in the field of clinical nutrition. On his website, he provides a plethora of reports, most of them dealing with single-issue items, and every single one of them accompanied by links to the unbiased and peer reviewed resources he's reporting on (or when they're not unbiased, he takes pains to explicitly point this out).
So, a great starting point is his Uprooting the Leading Causes of Death; it's an hour long, but provides a superb overview of the relationship between consuming animal products and increased occurrence of death along with all the reasons why. Note the "sources cited" link just to the right of the video.
However, maybe you don't care to spend a full hour on this and would rather view more targeted reports. That's OK -- at around the 8:00 mark in that video, he covers the topic of "endotoxemia", which is one of the real "smoking guns" with regard to the claim that "eating animal sourced products in any quantity has a direct negative impact on human health". You can skip straight to this set of reports here.
If you prefer, you can search the site for yourself; here are a few searches for popular animal products:
      nutritionfacts.org: dairy
      nutritionfacts.org: pork
      nutritionfacts.org: beef
      nutritionfacts.org: chicken
Alternatively, he has a collection of short written reports, each on a theme, and each being chock full of links to the particular reports backing up the statements made:
      nutritionfacts.org/topics/plant-based-diets/
      nutritionfacts.org/topics/heart-health/
      nutritionfacts.org/topics/mens-health/
      nutritionfacts.org/topics/cancer
      nutritionfacts.org/topics/aging/
However, if Dr. Greger is unsatisfactory for some reason, then I'll be moving on to Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's work, then Dr. John A. McDougall's, then Dr. T. Colin Campbell's... and the list goes on, but the common denominator is the conclusion that eating animal's bodies, menses, and secretions has a direct and unambiguous negative effect on human health.
For what it's worth, I recognize this is a mountain of data to look through, but that's kind of the point: the only reports that animal products are somehow "good" for human health are inevitably funded by the meat and dairy industries. If you doubt the truth of this, then I invite you to dig in to those sources and discover the truth for yourself; I've done so time and time again, and have found this to be so every single time.
      Fair enough?

Not a single “crazy vegan” comment on this video. Vegans are absolutely respectful and supportive when they are met with the same kindness.

@@thej1091 No need to stay away from milk, cheese and creame. There are lots of plant based milk choices. And the internet is full of vegan cheese recipes that are easy to make. Last month we had some vegetarian friends over for dinner that swore they could never go vegan because of CHEEEESEE. For dinner I made a huge salad with a creamy caesar dressing that used cashews and capers instead of egg mayo and anchovies topped with croutons fried in vegan butter then baked and "parmesan" that I made by grinding a 50/50 mix of pine nuts and nutritional yeast with a little added vegan lactic acid to a fine powder. For the main course we had a vegan fresh rosemary, basil and mushroom pizza with some homemade cashew based mozzarella that only takes about 5 minutes to make on the stove. Then for dessert we had some vegan caramel sauce that I made with coconut milk rather than bovine breast milk that I then poured over some vegan Ben and Jerry's almond ice cream with dark chocolate chunks and sprinkled some chopped candied pecans on top.
Friends had no idea that they could still have pizza and ice cream and creamy dressings without the bird eggs and bovine breast milk. Was everything an exact equivalent of their animal based counterparts, no. But all agreed that it was all damn tasty. They have tried several of the recipes I forward to them and while not completely vegan yet, they say they are well on the path. The husband says he just needs to find a vegan feta cheese, either commercial or home made, that he likes and he can make the jump. His wife is a baker and isn't completely sold on egg alternatives for baking but is willing to try.

Vegan is the best way to go. I am slowly getting there. I want to reach there though.

This guy is so good at countering objections.. So rational and collected, and so logical as well. I think more people need to listen to conversations like this because people are just missing the point..
