    This could be an interesting style of fighting!
    I like how experimental it is!

    Sounds like someone who never fought before teaching people how to fight.

    Website says they stopped offering "in person" lessons and will be promoting their "digital dojo".

    Another outstanding video. Good representation of shao lin kempo. If good people would walk in an studio and get the whole intake of what's happening with skill set training it would blow their minds. little different in variation at my studio.

    great video I am learning Okinawan kenpo and my teacher likes to teach us how defend against a strike or a grapple by coming at us in real time and retracting his punches and not leaving them out there so each of us has our own unique way of defending different strikes and techniques is this a effective way to learn self defense? and also I take combat jeet kune do and this teacher does the same except he teaches the concepts of kenpo and jkd not the techniques is this effective or am I at a blackbelt mill?

      Sounds like your teachers are teaching you well! The techniques are simply a vehicle through which you may learn the concepts and be introduced to vocabulary of motion. The most important thing is to have an understanding of the proper execution of the basics as well as the concepts which tell you how to effectively apply them.

    Good teaching on combo 1. So many people don't hit with that palm heel before the rake.

    sorry to say but this kind of block/attack combo only works with guys which have no clue about fighting and how to strike a correct hook...on my point of view

      And just how many trained martial artists do you know go around starting fights? How many people in the overall population have any kind of martial arts training, let alone good martial arts training? Look at footage of street fights. The overwhelming majority of attackers aren't all that good. They especially aren't expecting their target to fight back since they wouldn't be attacking otherwise; they'd find easier prey. Lastly, this is a teacher taking a technique and breaking down the principles behind it (get out of the way of the worst of the incoming attack, give them something to think about other than hurting you, disrupt their balance, etc). This isn't the only way it can go down. He had a lesson plan in mind and then picked a sequence his students are familiar with to carry the lesson.
      Your approach seems to be "a jab can only be a light hit that stings the other guy's nose" instead of "hey, look at the mechanics being used. A jab can cut down incoming attacks, you can leave it hanging to stiff-arm the other guy and disrupt his attack, you can sit on it and put some power and weight behind it to do actual damage beyond a swollen eye" and so on.

    No disrespect intended, Sensei but I couldn't help but notice that that you didn't address the potential left hand strike that you were open to throughout most of this demonstration.

      Ahhh! I was just about to make a comment on this! I'm in a flame war right now with some one who does Kempo. I do MMA and the little prick is trying to say how MMA lacks the Art in Martial Art. So i hop on here to see what kempo is....I am not impressed

      I too wanted to address that left hook. Thanks Berserker! I love Kung Fu, but I have also studied many other arts over the decades. To and including a few years where I was the beginning boxing coach at my brothers gym. That left fist just kept sticking out in my head, and would not go away.

    Originally they had the technique as stepping back as he strikes into a cat stance with left perry knife block before coming in and striking his face then wrapping his arm. This way makes much more sense.

    • @keitht.ridings9632
      @keitht.ridings9632 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, for the single right roundhouse punch. The parry was for execution against a right kick then the same hand goes high to jam a right punch when the person landed the foot.

  • @danielbigham6251
    @danielbigham6251 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the technique is decent. I think it would be much more devastating if we he locked the elbow he tore it before his step through and sweep

  • @mayorcurley3321

    That claw won't work. Bring some boxers in and have them throw that punch at you.

    • @mayorcurley3321
      @mayorcurley3321 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Yung Dripy dude that move isn't going to work. I am older now but was in a bunch of street fights in my life and also did boxing, kickboxing and grappling. Anyone who is tough is going to walk right through that claw. That can't stop anyone who is aggressive. Plus the odds that your opponent is going to be in the position you expect is close to zero. You gotta spar to learn to be effective in the street.

      @@mayorcurley3321 well sparring & Self defense are two different things .. Self defense is a surprised attack sparring is more like oh i know we about to fight which is good as well for streets because in some cases its been times when two people know they are about to engage in combat . as well some people male or woman have nails that claw will work fine . if not nails then the claw is for poke in the eyes just maybe if not then distraction .

    • @williamslovell4058

      Its a 50% chance you will meet somebody in the streets that dose boxing my guy .. I have train n boxing and other styles .. Just because u think that would not work thats you.. All that cage fighting bull cramp is nothing compare to the streets your mind set is focus on one person .. Different thing in the streets . yeah pretty sure you never stay in urban part of citi were crime is high so yeah i have had my share of fights .. Trust me if somebody did front grab bear hug you have not even second to do the eye strike before your own the ground trust me if will work . i wont say claw but eye poke yeah it can be affective ..bruce lee was famous for that you learn how to adapt throw away what dont wont .. As well change the eye claw to a two finger point its simple .

    maybe you should teach your students how to punch. Why is he doing a round house, totally telegraphing the punch instead of a straight front two knuckle punch. It is easy to defend against the punch your attacker is doing. It is much more difficult to defend against the straight in punch.
    Please don't get me wrong. I like the defense strategy. I like the technique but I just don't like how your opponent is never trying to actually hit you. You are never actually defending yourself.
    To qualify where I am coming from, I took Shaolin Kempo Karate for a year from a two bit school that had me at a brown belt after just over a year. I then went to train from a Veitnam Vet that realized a lot of Karate being taught at the time (late 1980s / early 1990s) was just a recreational form of Martial Arts. Having been in life and death situations (as a Vietnam Vet) he left the teaching he had had as a fourth degree black belt, and perfected his knowledge of the art of fighting.
    When I joined him he had two other students. One was a Blue Belt and the other a Green Belt. They both could kick my ass with no problem. By the time I left his teaching we were all Brown Belts and I was just as good as them. When we did Combinations and Kempos the attacker actually tried to punch the opponent with a real Karate punch, not some round house or telegraphed punch. The person defending the attack actually went through the whole routine. It was the defender's responsiblility to not strike the attacker, which sometimes happened, and it was the attacker's responsibility to hit the defender, which rarely happened.
    You can't teach self defense if the defender is never actually defending themselves.
