Yes Volde was more powerful and magically more dangerous as an opponent of strength, but he lead through fear and intimidation which isn't a good way to lead underlings. Grindelwald's Charisma I'd argue is better than Volde and his subordinates are willing to die for the cause.

After watching this edit I asked my mom, who is also a potterhead btw, that who is a more dangerous villian, Voldemort or Grindelwald. My mom said that no doubt Voldemort was incredibly powerful but he was somewhat a coward. He feared Dumbledore and also was afraid of the one-year old Harry Potter. Grindelwald on the other hand was fearless and no doubt he was powerful too. Morever he was manipulative. That is why he was a more dangerous villian.

Plus Dumblredore suspected that he had made some sort of attempts by then in making horcrux. That's why going against him was pointless. Also what an Elderwand will do against Voldemort when he is operating from secrecy. Its not like a nuclear bomb.

In the books, the books are more canon than the movies, in less than 2 minutes Voldemort corners Dumbledore between a fire snake and a killing curse, which Fawkes has to be sacrificed to take the curse and die, while Dumbledore is busy dealing with the snake.
In the movies Voldemort overpowers Dumbledore, before hurling broken glass at him.
We all know why the duel only lasts 2 minutes, Voldemort was not about to take on the all Auror's department plus Dumbledore, that would be retarded.

Well theres no doubt about that one. Voldemort wanted to live forever and ended up living about 70 years instead of the 200 wizard usually live. Also Grindelwald was so much more powerful AND better at manupulating.

Grindelwald and Dumbledore are two prime examples of trying to stay loyal to each other and what they loved whilst realising their ambitions of ascending beyond the limits of the world around them, but they end up going in complete different directions. Grindelwald stays true to his ambitions, becoming ruthless, cold blooded and murderous for 'The Greater Good'. And Dumbledore figured that his loyalty to his family, friends, community, students, etc, was more important than seeking a revolution and pushing his talents to the limit.
It's hard to stay loyal to those around you and to see your ambitions become reality in a single lifetime.

Grindelwald is better than Voldemort.His knowledge and strategy to persuade and manipulate wizards into following him were just mind blowing. His better and more dangerous because he knows what he's playing with
One of the things I love about Grindelwald is his followers. The Death Eaters followed Voldemort out of fear of death from him. In contrast, Grinderwald's followers are by him for their own means. In Queenie's case, she followed him to be with Jacob, as she couldn't be with him in America. Credence follows him to find out who he is and to be closer to his family.
Grindelwald's followers do also not inherently fear him, they see a means to an end and possibly even love in a world that is dangerous and doesn't make sense to many of them.
It makes Grindelwald superior to Voldemort. Both are dangerous but in the newest trailer, we see a darker side to the already dangerous Grindelwald. Truth be told, I don't think anyone will be able to replace Johnny Depp as Grindelwald.

The thing that makes Grindelwald so popular is probably because he is very good with words. Manipulation is his special trait. And that makes him even more dangerous. I love his character, simply because it's so fascinating to see what an outspoken man can do if he just approaches the right person at the right time

In my opinion Gellert Grindelwald would be way more dangerous enemy for Harry Potter than Voldemort, because Grindelwald, unlike Tom Riddle, was a true leader. Wizards and witches joined Grindelwald not because of fear but because he carried an idea and thanks to his speaker and leadership abilities he proved its greatness to them. Almost every single person in Grindelwald’s army would have died for him and the ideals he carried. If Harry fought against Grindelwald and his army during the Battle of Hogwarts instead of Voldemort and Death Eaters, he would lost. That is because Gellert’s followers, unlike Voldemort’s, wouldn’t left their leader alone when they saw his weakness or failure. No, they would stay and fight to the death because they all were united by the idea and as Mr. V once said: ”The ideas are bullet (or in our case magic-) proof. Gellert Grindelwald was true Hitler of Harry Potter’s world.

Nobody is talking about this: For anyone wondering if Grindelwald truly reciprocated Dumbledor's affection for him, look at 1:23 and 1:26. Look at how eager Dumbledore is to form a blood pact with Grindelwald; he gasps as though he's dreamed of moments like that with someone like Grindelwald before. It's obvious Dumbledore was star-struck and madly in love with Grindelwald. Now, look at Grindelwald's eyes and how they rotate upwards as though he was rolling his eyes before closing them. He seemed as though he thought of the blood pact as being trivial and a small step towards a much larger goal, rather than a personal, close bond with a soul-mate. His careless expression suggests that he might've seen Dumbledore as some sort of ignorant pawn in the way of progress; however, his expression did seem somewhat patronizing as he waited for Dumbledore to close his eyes first - almost like a father watching his son ride his bicycle without training wheels for the first time. Grindelwald was clearly ruthless and using Dumbledore's love for him to manipulate him. Grindelwald is such a magnificently designed character.

Dang. I've watched all of the Harry Potter movies and I liked Voldemort (especially the young one, hehe), but Grindelwald is another level.
Grindelwald is a badass!
Grindelwald is such an intelligent wizard and a good manipulator. He can get you by the emotions like with Queenie, because Jacob is a muggle so she can’t marry him. Grindelwald uses that to manipulate you. I also like how he talks, we can believe what he says. I really like Grindelwald.

I really liked this portrayal of Gellert, with the knowledge that we have both in fiction and movies on Voldemort i thought it would be really difficult to show Gellert different and at the same time as dangerous as Voldemort but depp and director did it. I sometimes think may be this is how Hitler may have been in real life charismatic and evil to the core.
