Thanks for the spoiler for Sometimes I Lie. I needed someone to verify what I thought it was all about. You cleared up a few things for me and seconded my assumptions. Much appreciated.😆
God, I hated Sometimes I Lie. I felt the exact same as you, except I was confident that I didn't like it. The twists were SO much and not in a good way. It was like the author was like 'okay you might have guessed this twist but what about this one?! KAPOW!' until the story was a confusing mess that made no sense.
QON spoilers: YES. THANK you for the Locke/Taryn feelings. FINALLY. My biggest quibble regarding QON *was* the ... almost immediate resolution of the Taryn/Jude conflict. Like...Taryn's "betrayal" was a HUGE sucker punch during TWK and I expected all sorts of juicy conflict to come from it in the third book. More than that, I was disappointed at how because of that, Taryn's character fell flat for basically the rest if the book. I hoped that the act of having to ... basically WIN her sister back ... would give Taryn's character the opportunity to undergo the growth myself as the reader desired to see and put her in the spotlight a little more. I agree with most of your points as well. You're far more articulate than I could ever be, but the whole Locke's murder execution just felt ...sour to me. From the beginning of the book to the end. A little unsatisfying. But UGH. This series is just ... so amazing. QON was also a four star read for me.
I still can't figure out Sometimes I Lie and my feeling about it. It's been 2+ years, an entire global pandamic, I birthed a child and I still can't stop thinking about this book.
Oh wow! That’s something. Just finished it and I loved it. Gave it 5 stars. I love when the twist comes and it’s completely unexpected. I can usually figure out what’s going to happen, but not with this one. Enjoyed her writing style as well. The imagery was outstanding.
I find these wrap ups weirdly rewatchable. Perhaps it's because I don't retain anything you've said about a book once the video is over, and the books just go to my endless tbr, but I keep coming back to these videos. I can listen to you talk about books all day!
I think as a skeleton, Queen of Nothing had everything I wanted. But I wish it was longer and a little more fleshed out. Agree 100% on the Taryn/Locke thing. Also I felt like cardan and Jude's first meeting was underwhelming
I just finished reading it and I keep thinking about the line _Taylor told me to do it_ What do you think about it? Also there are so many running themes in the book and so many unexplained things like one of em is what anniversary were Amber and Paul talking about 🤔 I really liked the book btw! Def worth a read.
I love your videos so much. Your line "I need my romance to not have garbage in it." I'm officially your fan. Thank you for calling out the bullshit in books that portray abusive relationships as romantic / idealized happy ending shit. Disgusting, I've seen that in YA before. Please continue to post videos frequently. I love listening to them while working haha!
100 percent agree with QoN. Honestly I have huge quibbles with the Locke and Taryn thing, the pacing thing, and the climax. I won't even mention the Madoc thing. But by far my biggest quibble is that this book felt like it was supposed to be so much longer and got edited down to almost nothing. Lots of underdeveloped and abandoned subplots. Made me really sad honestly.
I have a assignment for Dutch where I have to read 2 books with a partner (in my case two partners). And I choose the Dutch translation of Eleanor and Park, and needless to say that I absolutely hate the book but I can't change it now because I'm almost finished with it so ugh, I can't stand the main characters, and can't wait to be done with the assignment. I guess that's my November book review
Alexa, we're around the same age and I do agree that Ladybugs is so problematic 😂 but that fueled my love for Jonathan Brandis, soooo I'm torn. LOL I love that you use timestamps because I'm still interested in reading Sometimes I Lie, and I will definitely be back to hear your thoughts. :0)
SPOILER ALERT!!! Thoughts on Sometimes I lie 1. I totally agree on your rating I did give it a 5 though because I loved every page regardless of it the last page ! 2. What happened to Jo? I understand shes not real but did Amber lose her mind because she was handing out with Clair so much? 3. I dont understand how they weren’t diagnosed when they were kids although they were taken for therapy? 4. And were ambers parents nice to Amber after growing up?? Im just so confused I think i will definitely reread it 😂😂
Spoilers: Sometimes I Lie In the diary the writer keeps talking about how her parents used to love her, but now they love her "perfect" sister more. It appeared Amber's parents loved Claire more, so even though Amber said they were Claire's diaries, were they?
I have a theory that perhaps the first few diary entries were Amber's and the rest were Claire's but there is a ton of doubt because u don't know if she's lying or not. It's like Alias Grace all over again
Qon SPOILERS: Personally i first gave it 4 stars but then upped it to 5 stars. I wasn't satisfied with the ending and i thought we could have had more plot and more Jurdan communication. But just because i wasn't as satisfied as the first 2 books didn't mean it doesn't deserve 5 stars standing on its own. It tied the first 2 together, had character growth and answers. It literally had what i came looking for: Locke dead Not taking 200 pages before Jude goes back into Faerieland Locke dead😂 i hate him And answers. I guess holly could have added more plot here but i think it would have delayed the return of Jude to Faerie
I like the comedian ones a lot--Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Mindy Kaling had fun ones. Rob Lowe's memoir was really good--he's full of himself but almost knows it, and has some GREAT stories. And this is a weird one, but I loved Alison Arngrim's memoir. I didn't even watch Little House on the Prairie, but I was fascinated by her life as a child actress. She played the villain on the show and has a great sense of humor about being hated by a lot of people. Her parents were voice actors (her mom was Caspar!) and so she grew up in old school Hollywood. It's a very well written and entertaining memoir!
For Rodney Dangerfield, the fact that he was friends with black comedians in the '40s is actually a big deal because at the time it could ruin your career if you were thought to be friends with black people it could mean you were a communist dissident and working for Russia. After WW2 people questioned segregation and a lot of people didn't want anything to change. Interesting fact- Woodrow Willison segregated the Military- it had been integrated since shortly after the Civil War. Also, when was the memoir written for him? If it was within the last 5 or 6 years of his life he had a lot of medical issues, was smoking a lot of weed, and had to have operations to increase blood flow to his brain, so- and this is pure speculation- he may not have been a great interview and had trouble focusing on stories so the ghostwriter may have had to pick and choose the most coherent bits. I, like so many people my age, had a massive crush on Jonathan Brandis when Ladybugs came onto VHS. Yes, now we look back at it and we shake our heads, but at the time it was funny.
The thing is, I'm familiar with the historical context generally... but none of that was in the memoir. The biographer made a choice not to contextualize... anything, not even in Dangerfield's voice, and so the vignettes like that one fell flat. There are lots of one off stories about various comedians and none of it is well contextualized, IMO. It would have been so much cooler to add all the context! And yeah... I bet you he was sick and not a great interview. A real shame! I totally had a crush on Jonathan Brandis! I loved that movie and watched it over and over again. Recently listened to How Did This Get Made do it and they hadn't seen it as kids (b/c they're older than I am) and they were just BAFFLED. "Seeing" it through their eyes was pretty funny.
@@AlexaDonne it's a shame the ghostwriter didn't put some context to any of the stories. My freshman year in college I had the biggest crush on a guy who had Jonathan Brandis hair cerca his seaQuest days. Kind of looked like him too. I was so jealous of his girlfriend and I couldn't hate her because she was nice.
I can't stand star memoirs, especially the ones that have a "theme" along the lines of "my family cooked world class cuisine in their modest immigrant home" or "no matter what, family is the core of my strength," and these themes are hammered home by the ghostwriter at every point. Yawn. P.S. You are assessing the book, not the celeb's life choices. So, rate the book, and then put your personal judgement about the celeb in the written comment. P.P.S. I enjoy your reviews. Do you ever do classics? That would be very interesting and fun! :)
I hated Sometimes I Lie. I give it 2 stars. Too much going on. Every dramatic trope was thrown at this book. It’s a catch all of ideas the author had sitting to the side that she threw into this book and too many loose ends at the end for me. The ending with the bracelet… stupid. I did like authors book Rock Paper Scissors but I hate this book. Read this book and you’ll end up scratching your head a rubbing it out of confusion and exasperation at the same time.

Spoilers: Sometimes I Lie. I was trying to decide if “Taylor “ really did tell Claire to do it or if that was a lie. This novel was crazy.😂

Love all your videos!! Thanks for all the good reads. Would you ever do a makeup tutorial? I'm so obsessed with your makeup!!!
Picking up the sometimes I lie book idk what you said I skipped spoilers but excited to see what made you so unsure of the rating

Oh I thought this was going to be tips for writing sequels.
What does "soapy" means?
yelloworangered like something from a soap opera- over the top and maybe silly but entertaining
I’ve never really gotten into memoirs- any good recommendations for memoir newbies? :)

Alexa Donne okay so I took your advice and went to Goodwill to search for some memoirs- I found Tiny Fey and Mindy Kaling!
Regarding, Sometimes I Lie- I agree with your POV 💯! To me is a solid 3! I feel the author wanted to do so much, but was not well executed. 👎🏼
