I usually don’t like modern lenses because they look too clean and therefore boring. But surprisingly I like the look of the images this lens produces, too bad I don’t have a Sony anymore!
I was surprised by this one, too. I didn't expect it to be a lens I really liked, but it is and it's not nearly as clinical and sterile as I expected it to be. I like the Zeiss lenses because they're good and have image character and this feels more like that.
TYVM for the vid. If Sony actually does introduce the GM 24-70mm f2 I hope you get a chance to review it. I want one. I'd want one if the zoom range was limited to 50mm.
Definitely and it's been a while since I reviewed a zoom. The new GM does sound really interesting. I do have three Sony lenses planned for early 2025 (simply because this year's calendar is packed) and those are the Batis 18mm, 24mm f/2.8 G, and 100-400 GM.
@@DavidHancock although the 100-400mm GM isn't perfect, I get a ton of use out of it. If they upgrade it, I will get a loan and repurchase it along with the 16-35mm f2.8 and 24-70mm f2 GM lenses. They can do all the heavy lifting i need.
I don't think I will ever want 24-70/2, because the weight is going to be 2kg and price around $3000. I wish Sony would have made 18-50/2.8 lens. It's not many pictures I take at over 50mm, but wider than 24mm is a very useful range. For now I use Tamron 20-40, far from perfect lens, but more useful.
I think Sony should make a more high end series of compact Lenses, fx "GMC"-series. A 40mm Lens is a good focal length, but 35mm focal length are much better, I have the excellent Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical which is build like a tank and the optical image quality is at least as good as th Sony 35mm 1.4 GM ! I also have the Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 T* ZA which I go used for US $215 (taxes included), so it is cheaper than the Sony 40mm and it is more compact and light weight !

That would be very cool.
Compare it with the new Viltrox 40/2.5 which is 1/3 of the Sony price.
If I get my hands on the Viltrox, definitely.
@@DavidHancock I've got one in z-mount today and took a few pictures. Optically it looks excellent, the AF is slower than native.
