Kui Lee who was dieing of cancer wrote this song in 1964 for his wife to whom he was seperated from. Kui Lee was a friend of Don Ho. They once worked together at Honey's Nightclub that was owned by Don's mom. Elvis Presley often liked to vacation in Hawaii ever since he made the film Blue Hawaii. When he heard the song he wanted to record it himself in 1966. It was on Elvis's sountrack for the movie "Spinout".
