Not only a hot bulb, a two stroke crankcase scavenged reed valve induction engine. There is another video of a similar Gardner engine, a much larger, inline 4 driving a generator, very impressive stuff. Cheers
The "Swan" is moored in Venetian Martina atm (Jan.2014). I am almost 100% certain that it is the main actor in the book: "Journeys of the Swan" by John Liley, pub. 1971
I was fortunate to have a Gardner 4LK Whilst I utterly respect this engine boat and crew I could not strain and pull start this engine and have to install electric start
I think if you took into account fuel burnt to travel a similar distance, compared to a more modern engine, due to frugal nature of some of this old stuff you might be surprised. It would have to be in good condition ie not burning oil. In terms of actual pollution produced of course
much respect for the cool girl to go through the hassle of starting this engine.
Wonderful lady understands the beauty, the history and the tradition. The Gardner, despite its petulance, bends to her will as shall it always.
John, are you confusing that with an AS 2?

Despite her being older than me, I think I’ve met my dream woman! 🥰
Notice how the checker plate is worn down after all the years of deft footwork to start this engine. Great work by the lady in this vid.
Respect to the lady. I wouldn't like that hassle
Beautiful Lady, forget the antique engine! 😁 ;-)
Great video - id love that engine on my boat! lol

I feel better about my stubborn old land rover diesel all of a sudden!
@northstar1950 that's why it says Gardner down the bottom of the engine
@northstar1950 Yep!
Nice greta wont be too happy
Have I seen this at the Bonded Warehouse in Stourbridge?
I'd say there is a good chance. She goes a good few places.
Is this the 'Swan' commissioned in 1933 and first skippered by Charles Scragg Preston?
I love the engine but it clearly has a small issue with exhaust in the engine room.
ooooppppppsssssssss, I meant "Gardner" my mistake then, never realised they made any hot bulb engines, ty anyway.
great vid........
I'd love to see how one of these old foggers does on emission test. Place your bets. (I fully understand their historic significance.)
Once up to temp, and running hard, probably not that much worse than most industrial diesel engines - but I know what you mean! :)

you sure thats a Gardener???
I was wondering that too ! Sure does'n look like one.
Looks like a Bolinder, demo not a 4 cylinder Gardner. Both great engines and good video though.
It's an old Gardner before they started making high speed engines. 1920's vintage. I'm not sure what the numbers of the model represent.
@@mykaskin Thanks, really enjoy your videos
I would not want to see this beautiful young lady loose her job but me thinks that it just be time to invest in a starter motor, just my .02cents
You have a lot to learn my friend...
And that's why you need a man!!!!
