I like the ease of these typ of greenhouses, My concern with these are not enough Straight up and down space for shelves for started seedlings and such. i am currently thinking a hybrid of such. Like making a 3 foot high fram all the way around then putting the panels on top the wall.
I agree that this was a cinder of ours as well. The great thing about cattle panels is that they are flexible and you can decide how you want them to go. I’m interested to see what you do with yours. We are about to do a modification in ours to show how you can take advantage of the space for growing seedlings. I’ll let you know how it goes but keep an eye out for our video.
@@uphillacre1585 yes thank you, how about you guys? what zone are you growing in? Our weather is so weird here, we had the freeze down to 30F a few days ago and now it's in the 80s during the day. and not below 40 at night. I'm not complaining, I love 40s at night and up to about 80 during the day, actually my favorite time of year here.
The shape of the green house is folded up cattle panels from Tractor Supply. They do have rigid edges in between each panel so I put the pipe insulation to minimize any potential of tearing. The plastic is specialty greenhouse plastic that I bought on amazon.
We live on the east coast. Mostly during coastal storms and hurricanes is when we experience such high winds. The past few days we have had sustained winds in the teens with gusts in the 30s/40s. The greenhouse has held up well through all of that.
We used 1 1/4 inch galvanized fencing staples to tie the frame into the cattle panels. Then we ended up making elevated, removable tables over the beds. Here is the link to the video outlining what we did for that: th-cam.com/video/i_8ZSjViq0Q/w-d-xo.html
wow yeah we need that here with our high winds. I'm in an open flat area of west Texas. What kind of plastic are you using and where to buy and also what is the total cost of a greenhouse like yours if you buy it all from the store in parts and build?
Thank you! And yes we used the foam pipe insulation. It was easy to slid around the edges and we used electrical tape to connect them together to fit the length.
@@Pierced777 we cut the inside 2x4s to the angle of the cattle panels while they were already in the hoop formation (the best we could) and then used fencing staples (1 1/4 inch - we got them at Tractor Supply) to tie the cattle panels into the ends of the 2x4s.
Sorry! Never did plans and just built on a whim and had my fingers crossed that it fit together. Its really the cattle panel sizes that dictate everything.
On the ends of the cattle panels (and where they connect) we used foam pipe insulation. It comes already with an opening to just slide it on easily and then we went through and cut slits where the intersecting bars were to allow it to fully wrap around. Hope that helps!
Sorry I misunderstood. The cattle panels sit in a wooden frame (and are held in place by more wood that we screwed in). The whitish/gray pieces at the bottom that you are seeing is the excess plastic sheeting that we left after pinching it in with the furring strips. I rewatched the video and believe that is what you are seeing. Hope that clears it up but if not let me know. Thanks!
Our experience of one foot of snow has not been an issue. The slope inhibits a large accumulation of snow on top. We don’t get the amount of snow that you probably do so I can’t guarantee that it would hold but it is incredibly sturdy. If you try it please let us know how it goes! Good luck!
Fence staples. You can buy at Tractor Supply. Bit weird to work with if youve never handled before but quite effective in tying the metal rail into the top of 2x4
