RE: the two stages of click, many pinball machines have what are called "staged flippers", where you can push the button half way down to trigger the bottom flippers, and all the the way to trigger the top flippers. This lets you cradle balls on the bottom flippers while going crazy on the upper playfield during multiball. Crazy they included that!
I got so nostalgic watching LGRs videos that I changed my laptop's theme to Classic and turned down the resolution so it looks ridiculously retro (well not truly retro but I grew up with Windows 98 and XP computers so it looks like childhood to me).
@@LGR Oh. Eff. A three year old commit made me feel really old. Started with the atari home computer in its 8 bit glory... upgrading to win 3.1 was amazing Any way to get my laptop running native like 3.1 😅.
The fact that I expect with gleeful anticipation the "Doom Test" as an LGR staple speaks to how much and often I peruse these videos. It literally never gets old. Also sat back like... Thrustmaster innuendo in 5... 4...
You've found the *real* nightmare-mode for Doom 2: playing the entire game with this thing alone. God, it was painful just watching you try. Waaaaaay gimickie, but memorable in its look and purpose. Something that could only have come from the pinball craze of the early to mid 90s.
It's weird how it attaches, I'd assume it would be more a clamp or crocodile clip. But can't you map keys to the buttons? You could try some Pinball Fantasies if so :D boot up an amiga emulator :D
It's kind of funny that I watched this last week and a few days later I found this exact same set complete and unused at a thrift store, instantly bought it of course. Only differences I can see with the contents is that I had a 2nd install guide with the contents looking different, the disc wasn't in a jewel case but in a paper sleeve and to "stick" it on the keyboard there is an unused set of velcro stickers as well.
I don't think I can properly express... I mean I barely have an interest in random tech, but your videos are really an anxiety cure. Don't ever change.
this channel is great because growing up my family never had a computer until 1998 so i was always a console gamer. its really cool to see all these games. some i remember from being in magazines, most are unknown to me.
11:55 "They're shooting each other!" Yes, this was a problem exposed in the famous computer science paper "Doom as an Interface for Process Management".
Whoa, Packard Bell keyboard. Our 486 was a Packard Bell, It had that same type of keyboard too. Man, your videos can give me a overdose of nostalgia if I am not careful... :)
1:55 Royal Flush was one of my all-time favorite pinball sims! It was just the one game, but it was a faithful simulation of an old real-life Gottlieb table from the 1970s. The Mac version had been commissioned and then canceled by Broderbund, and the developers released it as shareware. I played the heck out of that thing at the time.
That Maxis collection video was one of the first of yours that I saw; awesome to see something from there come full circle. Especially something like this.
Christ, I haven't laughed that loud since... well dunno, which obviously mean "long ago". Anyway, the idea to try out Doom II with those TWPC thingies was nothing short of comedy brilliance. Thanks Clint!
Hey playing Doom 2 with the pinball controller was boss. I watched some of your reviews quite some time ago, but I stumbled upon your channel again and yeah the pizza video got me to subscribe and now I am checking out some more stuff. Good show!
I remember having this when i was young. If I remember right, my friend had bought one too. At the time it seemed very realistic. We used to buy failed/failing peripherals and game systems when we were kids. I remember saving up money and buying a Game.com. Also a VirtualBoy... and an Atari Jaguar. I still think the VirtualBoy was the coolest failed technology I bought. I probably still have it in a box somewhere.
That's not a pinball controller. It's an FPS fitness simulator-kinda. You 're totally right. I would love to see you using it for an driving sim as well!
this is kinda neat. if i ever found it for a decent price, i'd definitely pick it up. could be fun. also, i haven't thought of omikron, the nomad soul is as long as i can remember. thanks for bringing that back for me!
That Doom bit was absolutely awesome :D I can already see how those hardcore oldgamers are doing speedruns of doom, on a hardest difficulty, using this :D
I love the idea. Granted, the execution is not the best… but a modern one using the benefits on modern technology & Pinball Arcade. That. That would be utterly sublime :) (Oh, and trying it with Doom 2? That has to be one of the greatest things I've ever seen. EVER. :))
Lazy Game Reviews Well I'm kind of slow so I spotted it at 7:15 when you were at your desk, with a packard bell keyboard, an oddware, windows 98, a beard, a funny t-shirt, a Duke-like voice (well, that's permanent anyway ^^), and UT99 music in the background. In short, you were 100% successful. Now I'm going to watch some of your old VCR-recorded videos, 'cause this vid made me want to do that. :)
Motion controls are obviously the future of gaming. (11:31) In other news, yeah, the game port. You know. The port for games. That was on your sound card for some reason.
I laughed so hard at the beginning of the video, when you've tried to play Doom with this "oddtroller". :D Other than that, I would love to have such accessory. It would be cool to watch for others at me and yank. :D And, by the way, love your videos. :)
I never knew that the "3D space pinball" that came with a few of my computers was actually taken from a maxis game. I think it came with Windows me and maybe xp. The me I actually still have, its a Compaq. I'll have to boot it up and see what it has on it. Unfortunately, on my xp machine, the hard drive is all but dead, and I think I took it out to see if I could plug it in to my gaming PC, but I didn't realize that it wasn't comparable with the new SATA standard. It was a dell, so it also could just be some proprietary connection to make you stick with them...
I took some real inspiration from this video and used some Wii remotes, a keyboard and a piece of software called Glovepie to play Epic Pinball. It didn't work half the time but it was still pretty cool. I'm a sucker for gimmicky control schemes.
They should hold Doom tournaments where you're only allowed to use that. It's like the world's worst motion controller, and that's what makes it so awesome.
Oh I have those! They never ever worked though, and I tried back then several times, I guess they just came broken from the package and we never got around to ask for a replacement. My dad, being a pinball fan, bought those like in '95-'96. My version has what you called the "UK box", but it came with Full Tilt Pinball here in Argentina.
Great video, absolutely loved the part with Doom. Would have been cool if you'd shown some pinball emulators with it. There are some pretty high quality emulated tables out there. Then again I understand your thing is not emulators, but for Pinball come on it's not like you could actually own several pinball machines lol.
Keep in mind I wasn't running this on a modern machine of any kind, but an old Windows 9x PC. It's simply not powerful enough to run things like Visual Pinball effectively. And since this peripheral uses a 15-pin game port to connect, which my modern PC doesn't have, I couldn't show it there either.
Oh man, so the pinball game from windows xp is even older than I thought. Awesome lol. I still got the files kicking around and it works on windows 10.
And that is exactly how doom with Kinect Motion Controls would have been.
You beat the first stage of Doom 2.......With your face. Honestly man...I've never been more proud.
Playing Doom II with that... thing is certainly the best moment in any Oddware video.
RE: the two stages of click, many pinball machines have what are called "staged flippers", where you can push the button half way down to trigger the bottom flippers, and all the the way to trigger the top flippers. oh my god, Doom II with that controller is glorious
That was some intense thrusting at the end there, my man.
Only the finest in thrusting for you all, that's my motto.

PC thrusting pro.
Clint will you be buying the new Ataribox?
I would call it Master Thrusting... Ok, I'll just see myself out.

Nice!
Grab the free VMWare Player program and use Windows 98 through that for an even more intense nostalgiagasm :)
Thanks! Great suggestion. Love your channel!

Thrustmaster sounds like a condom brand.
*COUGH!* Steering wheels for sim-racers. *COUGH!*

You're not a real man until you beat a level of Doom 2 using the Thrustmaster Wizzard.

I'll take this over Kinect.
The past of future gaming.

Playing Doom II Like a Boss!
Thanks to the Wizzard Pinball Controller, that deaf dumb blind keyboard sure plays a mean... Doom 2!?
Great episode of LGR odd-ware! Keep it up! I love how you tried to use the tilt sensors for Dom!
Neat! I don't know why I never noticed this video before. I came here from your review of your new Pinball Controller.
I have metallic spheres.
Only on LGR will I see things I never before thought I wanted to see, such as playing Doom with a pinball controller. Epic

In minecraft its Twitch plays Arms (zombie attacks skeleton and vice versa
Best thing you've done on your channel to date.
LGR - You make my super nerdy side that loves all things old-school PC and gadgets all giggity and happy.
Did they get the name from the The Who song Pinball Wizard?
That's what I was thinking, fam.

That it is :) Nice to see some people here that remember that!
Now that's just badass. I have the ThrustMaster's driving controls (wheel, transmissions and pedals) and I should totally play Doom with them.
Someday LGR will get pulled over because hes running doom on his tesla and has the controls mapped to the car controls.

Playing Doom 2 with 90's motion controls.

Nice beard ! (it's back !)

Wow I totally remember playing Space Cadet when I was younger and wasn't allowed to be on the internet XD
The fact that the manual and box have pictures of IBM Model M's on them just makes me wonder what kind of bodybuilders designed this product.
Trying to play doom with that thing was wonderfully ridiculous. I love it!

Gotta turn right since the left doesnt work!!

flufflepuff no they won't need to add an R. Blizzard Wizzard, they need to add an L
so what i messed up
