Sumi Jo's rendition of "Italian Street Song" is one of the sexiest ones I've seen on YT. And her English diction is neat, impeccible, and shall I dare say "cute"?brava, diva Sumi!
I, too, would have preferred to have just having Sumi Jo singing "Italian Street Song" but the audience participation didn't detract from her performance that much. And they really showed their appreciation at the enn, didn't they? :-)And that was quite a sexy "Song'. :-)
@OperaBuff1935 Here I am with your reply...after 3 yrs. Who would have thunk it? You must realize the audience participated in the song, ya? She was REALLY turned on!
But I like this key better for her, though. I like D major better than F major (Jeanette MacDonald's original key), it sounds a lot more happy that way.
@Contrubas Wow! I didn't know all that! You seem to be an opera buff or in the business! Can you point me to the right registry? I don't know opera, but I dide enjoy this. Is Jeannette MacDonald's reh right one? I always thought her a bit shrill. How about Beverly Sills? I'm not being sarcastic.. But I want to learn a little bit. Awaiting your reply, asap. Thanks.
I thought the same. And because of that lower key, when she's fighting against the orchestra, it doesn't come out too well However, she reaches top D at the end ... {See Contrabus below ]
Brava!!!! I do so love Sumi Jo. My only complaint is the rhythmic clapping by the audience, which is an annoying habit. And the conductor is not only condoning it but actually conducting them.
What... did she learn the song five minutes before going on? Riddles with errors. Not to mention the key change. I'm a singer, and if I can't sing a song in it's original key... then I don't mess with it... unless it's a song I really like... lol... this couldn't have disapointed me more.
This is NOT in the original key. It's much more exciting in the original key. And in this key, she's having to work much harder in the lower register and is then knackered for the final note. Still, got the audience going didn't it but at poor Sumi's demise. Fancy having to battle against all that. Fun though.
I love how the audience claps in rhythm with the chorus.
She is such an all-rounded artiste. Whatever next ?And I adore her frocks. She is a stunning visual performer in addition to a true chanteuse.
Tremendous fun. Sumi Jo is radiant and marvelous. Brava!
I'm so proud of her!!!
This video never fails to fill my heart with happiness! What an amazing woman!
Wonderful

A lot of people have negative things to say about Sumi Jo for some reason, but no one can deny that she may be the absolute cutest opera singer ever.

Charmig indeed.
Victor Herbert's name, though, is spelt with a B.

nope. I heard D major.
I wonder why she sang it in a lower key?

Her singing can not be any better, but why do I think her dress is not for the song?

She wanted to end the aria on a high note. Most sopranos come down on the final note.
Except the conductor lacks style and doesn't really know how it goes. He waves the stick back and forth. Boring!
