Just a little tip for you guys. If you do that method of cutting the pipe size in half 4 times, but take it a step further, and cut it for a 5th time. So in the case 6" being the pipe size. Do 6, 3, 1½, ¾, and then ⅜ being last. Take the 3rd and 5th numbers and add them. So 1½ + ⅜ = 1⅞, that will be the center of your 22.5° fitting. Hope this helps.
Iam a millwright by trade for about 16 years now but that doggie you got some major skills 👌 millwrights and pipefitters work together for pipestress and all, but were still the doctors of the trade. But i enjoy your videos keep it up big dawgy
Had a weld test today, and a written one as well, and what you just showed is exactly what I failed lol, I didn't kno about that stuff but I do now. Can you show more, but the test was for sanitary tubing SS
U can order a fitter book online,u can download apps from the fitting manufacturers, and u can measure the fittings. I will say and I am not at all trying to be mean but u should definitely know know this stuff and hangers if u weld pipe. Generally u fit before u weld. U can practice with pvc, cpvc etc too. If u are a pipe welder and u don’t have this knowledge you will stick out like a sore thumb.
Great vid u definitely should do fitting 101. 2 hole flanges, gaskets, valves, HANGERS, socket fittings, thread pipe, glue pipe, solder, braze, if there are guys not knowing a take off and they are welding pipe they at least should get a rundown. It may help a pre apprentice too.
@@dominickcarbonara5494 yea I told the company ahead of time ive never welded pipe as far as out in the field, I just told the company that I could pass a 6G which I have, all 3 ive taken the CWI said i passed with no indications, but they wanted me to take the sanitary welding test plus a written test, I passed the weld test but failed the written and told them I would, but the owner said the other stuff can be taught on the job training. So idk ill see. But thanks for the information! I will definitely order the stuff he recommended.
Im a 1st period plumbing apprentice but also learning to fit ive been trying to get better at takeoffs this video definitely helped me see it better . thanks for the video!
Nominal pipe diameter times .625 or 5/8 for 45’s, subtract that from your overall center to center or center to end measurements plus your weld gaps. Boom, cut piece length figured out
Don't do it. Go to college and get an engineering degree. Welders and fitters get fucked in the field being required to make shit happen in the real world that engineering text books don't work.

Hi this is the first time giving a comment and you guys are awesome at teaching, question David Ciriza is he still teaching there if he is ask him about Benny Palomares I know him from el paso I worked with his brother Ramon for James & Luther
How do you start out getting a pipe welding and fitting job for the oilfield/ oil and gas companies? Do you contract yourself as a welder/fitter or do you have to have a welding rig, do you walk on a refinery and ask? Call big name companies? Go to a welding company and hire on with them? Any thoughts?
I've been an ardent follower of your channel" I've been dreaming of becoming a pipe Fitter, although I've got the opportunity for little practical training but I would want you people to train Me so I can secure a Job over there, I'm a Nigerian and very Quick in Learning, looking forward to hearing from you, thks
To determine the center of a 90 degree bend, simply put 2 pieces next to each other and measure the value from foreign trade until you know the value then by 2 parts e.g. bend DN 100 has from outside to outside 200mm 200: 2 = 100 / 100mm is the outlay of a DN 100 bend DIN not ISO
I think it's better to use a formula which is: Tan Deg/2 x 25,4x1,5x size of pipe. You can apply this formula to any angle weather its short radius or long radius
So you need to measure from center point to center point? Is it not accurate to just measure between the bends after Welding them to each pipe to find the pup length?
Typically most isometric drawings will be shown with measurements center to center or face of flange to center I have run into Shorten and mitered fittings if you measured just the pup you could be off on centers
I been working in Korean company in Saudi Arabia Ang UAE. Every instances we been using millimeters not inches, when you take off the numbers of a length of pipe we use millimeters.. so pls throw your blue books and burn it.. engineers and architecture now a days didn't use that way of inches
Pipefitters take off is when you are fitting it up.. and ask for a tack.. and your welder tookoff.. tack?!.. tack??.. looks around.. drops the fitting.. takeoff to join the welder..
Damn I've been doing this s*** for 50 years!!! They change the size of 90s!!!! That 90 years showing is a standard 90 you ain't as smart as you think you are
This would be more helpful if someone would even fucking tell me what a take off is. I can calculate shit and do equations all day and it’s meaningless if no one tells me how it relates to the real goddamn world.

This is how you would say it half the degrees in bend x the radius

Nominal pipe diameter times .625 or 5/8 for 45’s, subtract that from your overall center to center or center to end measurements plus your weld gaps. Boom, cut piece length figured out
Thats one way.
The way I learned in school is that the distance for a long radius is 1.5x the diameter, it gives the same results, so 6*1.5= 9
Just make sure it's a long radius 90 first.
And 5/8 × the diameter for the 45
Thet depends what tipe of elbow you have. You can have 1D. 3D. Standard is 1.5D
Where did 1.5 come from ?
my dream job pipe welding is badass hope to get in that field someday
