Never delete these video's please, as someone that joined in Shadowbringers. These videos just feel so nice to watch, especially how high quality they are in. It's like a little FFXIV 1.0 history museum
i'd love to talk to these people and know how they feel about the game now hahaha it's been my favorite game for almost 3 years now and it must be even more special to them
Hi I played back in 1.0 and still play today. I still come back to these videos to look at the past. Yeah the game took ages to do things done a everything needing a server check, that and need strong pc to run the Polly count. I will defantly say the FF14 we have today is amazing I do have problum with it still, but its way better than 1.0 110% fold For me what makes 1.0 special is the memory's I made as a early teen back in the day the game was bad but I did have a lot fun. For me what feels like current problum with FF14 endwalker is everything feels the same in the way of dungeons yeah they look realy pretty but why they just play out is same and 2 safe, and just basic QOL. but when comes to 1.0 or endwalker endwalker any day. And Starlight Celebration was fave event back in 1.0 and still is to this day.
It was a mess, there was some charm of the hardcore-payoffs, but it was mostly issues. There was a delay to everything so you had to mentally be on your toes; even doors took a second to open and wouldn't auto open like we have now. Lots of limits of mobility, teleporting and experience. Some maps in zones were incredible hard to understand, like in the Shroud; classic Goobue mount owners could tell you more. Leves were practically the only way to level up efficiently and the mobs were terrifying at low levels (Dodos). The Marketplace was weird to say the least... your retainer would actually be placed in a zone where people could browse through their inventory that you put up for auction. It was really laggy and and everyone would pop in and out of existence due to the obvious limits. I remember one of the biggest criticism at the time was the geometry assets were reused a bit too much and it became jarring. I can't really remember much more about it.
If you got past the flaws. And ho boy were there flaws lol. There was a very decent game burried underneath all the jank. I always say this to everyone that asks about 1.0. But the game changed so much over the 2 years it was in operation that ARR should have been labled ver 5.0 instead of 2.0
Since you asked. Yoshi-P lied about an absolute shit load of stuff by the end of 1.0 and well into 2.0 on how he wanted to fix the game. None of those things ever happened. Jobs were unique and had substance. This was a 1.0 thing that carried over into Heavensward. Whatever happened in Stormblood was him finally throwing away whatever he wanted to make and leaned into whatever was going to make the most money. Jobs are in such a shitty state anymore (or they are just that creatively bankrupt) that they're just porting over and butchering old 1.0 abilities to give to jobs now. Paladin has a LOT of their old 1.0 kit back, except it doesn't have any of the cool things attached to them anymore. Too many classes are like this anymore. I'm not here to yuck anyone's yum, but XIV is Final Fantasy in name only that's littered with "'Member berries" that it's almost a turn off, because the story doesn't really have substance, it's just playing off references of older games in hopes that it's juuuuuuust good enough to hook a casual player with zero background to the series. You take the writing team out of their element (since they can't do that with the closure of the 1.0 story line) and you got Dawntrail. XIV went from an open world adventure with people doing leves alongside you to level straight to a lobby simulator where you wait in queues. I'd love to go back, but that game isn't what I love anymore. Jobs need so much work, open world needs overhauled, and instanced content needs to seriously minimize its importance to the game. -A bitter legacy player
I had taken a hiatus after I got into Shadowbringers, but eventually, I came back to casually play and then found a community recently on another server that made me love the game again. Excited for the new expansion.
Back in the day these graphics were top of the top and not suitable for an MMO (if you want people to play it, I mean), but now? They could implement these graphics no problem. They look fantastic and the give a very especial vibe to the world. The way the characters move, for instance, is phenomenal.
I agree, 1.0 visuals have a more detail charm to them, that afterwards seems to have kind fallen off, but it's understandable as to why. I do wish they'd go back to such detail, given even 10+ years ago, this game still looks stunning, and the models & animations look extremely well done.
Right? Something I've learned - with any group of people, there are always haters. There are realist people making honest critiques, and then there are "misery loves company" people that want to be miserable and want everyone else to be miserable with them, even if those people are otherwise enjoying things, and want to be vindicated as being right about being miserable. I honestly can't stand those kinds of people. If you have decided to be miserable, you don't have to drag everyone else into your pit with you. : )
Think Sylv Darkbane ever developed humility when he got so badly proven wrong by ARR (I asume he is talking about the time period where SE was trying to find ways to improve the game not sure if this is before they brought yoshi in for that or if this was after they brought yoshi in but before the dalamud decision)
Kinda ironic, since he'll be in the credits, since he's essentially a Legacy player at this point. 🤣🤣🤣 EDIT: Nvm...He's not in the credits, I just looked. He probably didn't bought the 6 month sub. Would be hilarious if he did.
@@tamiko_chxn4974 What, the critically acclaimed MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn now with the unlimited free trial that includes the award winning expansions Heavensward and Stormblood and a level cap of 70 (all in the free trial) and is about to have its 5th expansion, Dawntrail, launching July 2, 2024 (early access June 28)? ...that? :D
@fraguar615 I think it's worth playing if you want to try something different. They've made a lot of changes with the updates and what not. I don't really play it anymore since I don't have a bad ass computer. ;_; But it is fun and takes some getting used to if you've played FFXI for a long time.
Now that technology has advanced to the point where most people COULD run the game decently, I unironically think that it would be a fairly successful game. Despite how it was.... I remember.

No clue why this ancient vid popped up in my algorithms but god damn has this game come a long way.
"that's like making a whole new game."
Does he know?
That one person malding in the chat though, lmao

Sylv Darkbane: "Well. I logged on to see improvements. and there is none"
Oh. Oh how they didn't *know*
the sound design is so good in this version
All of the music was done by Uematsu.
Ah, so /shout chat in Ul'dah was always annoying.
Yes, very much so. It's not as bad now.
this is incredible i didnt knew these videos existed thanks so much for record them
this is my comfort video of ffxiv i wish we still had this movement and snow in every city T-T
I hope you are still enjoying the game today. I just got this video on my feed it's cool to see one of my favorite events back then

@@velvetfair21 wow that is amazing to hear! What a journey from 1.0 to dawntrail! I'm glad that you could find friends to play with again.
@@velvetfair21To be honest Endwalker isn't the best I preferred SHB had more friends and lost them EW quite hard
I love these videos theyre really cool to see how it used to be. thanks for uploading
also your miqo is very cute! xD :3 cheers o/
I wish I got to play 1.0, it reminds me so much of FFXI and I played that so much back in the day.

dude the movement is beautiful wtf
This takes me back! The game had a lot of atmosphere and the people I played with were the best. I don't thnk I would be able to go back these days.
LOL that General chat with Sylv Darkbane xD

Really wish I played xiv back in 1.0 even just to try, it has a very cozy feeling to it
the animations are so good lol
This is so wholesome!!!
@loltarupup Lmfao, I know. I didn't pay much attention to that person.
omg those boots
Do you get the legecy cutscenes in arr since you played 1.0 and do you have the tattoo and legecy chocobo?
Yes I did!
If the reviews were better then I might try the game out. Nice video by the way. I like the look of the town, and the decorations were cute lol.
Did you try it already? lol

What a legend cute cat
@slitzkin532 Exactly what I think too. I'd rather give the game a chance and try everything out instead of bashing it in one day.
Was it possible to ERP back then? I wish I had the chance to play it back then...
why is that the first thing you wonder? 😭 midna pfps I swear...

WOW
Old Ul'Dah
awesome!
oh the FPS that's not...
she's taking it...
I miss the more realistic walking animation of 1.0 :(
Is the game worth playing? I was a longtime ffxi player that just quit like 6 months ago. Was thinking about picking this up
Yes
The people who bitch about the game are the ones who aren't ready to try a new experience, is what I've come to notice.
The FPS is hurting my eyes lol.
It was laggy from all the people trying to load, lol.
That's kinda why ARR was made
galool jaja >_>
mans wasnt even thought of yet 😭😭😭
I was enjoying the decorations... until I saw Yuyujase. 🤬
Darn Yuyujase 😡
