Great review, as an American currently living in Germany I have experienced ownership of the typical fat tire bikes sold in the USA as well as the legendary Bosch powered bikes made in Germany. European, especially German made E Bikes are so superior to what is generally found in the USA, it’s night and day. Bear in mind that the price is about double but what you get is worth it. A mid motor from Bosch putting out 85 nm of torque with a 750 watt battery and a 12 speed rear derailleur has allowed me to climb every hill I have encountered bar none and that is at over 300 pounds and 6’4” A 2.8 inch tire is ideal, 4” is great for sand and snow but unnecessary for off-road. The torque sensors found in Bosch motors makes them feel like regular bikes as the power applied is natural and in proportion to how hard you are pedaling, it’s not the abnormal and somewhat dangerous power delivery that cheaper ebikes provide. Now, a motorcycle is a great choice also, but there is a noise factor and fuel factor and weight factor that you have to weight, perhaps both have their place and purpose.

I think the small motorcycle would be the best way to go.

Yes do a 4 stroke review!
A few my buddies and I recently picked up some 4 stroke 110s to explore further and smaller trails in the woods, went with 110s because they are very light on a rack, we can go 4-6 hours on a gallon of gas and they are just a blast!
With a little suspension upgrade they aren’t to shabby, and if you don’t know how to work a clutch they make the 110s without as well

100000000% would love you to review the 4 stroke. I like the e-bikes but they cant hang with gas right now. I want them to but they just aren't there right now. maybe in the future.

I would be very interested in your opinion of an Amazon 250cc motorcycle. Also I agree on your point about weight - e-bikes are very, very heavy. Not as heavy as a motorcycle, but heavy enough that similar considerations must be taken.

I've been looking at the Armada brand electric low speed motorcycles for commuting. We have long winters, so maybe not a good option, but it's pretty cool when you can get an electric motorcycle for $2k. I have an electric scooter I can get into my car, van or bus and run it off solar at the campground just for getting to a bathroom if I have an emergency, which happens.

I would say the KTM Freeride would probably be the best option for serious offroading if you want to have electric. A true offroad capable electric motorcycle. The $12K price is the downside!☹

One very significant piece of information, a Honda CRF 300 puts out 26 nm of torque, a Bosch mid drive motor puts out 85 nm of torque, wrap your mind around that for a few minutes, motorcycles are not necessarily what you may want… and a hub drive motor with a 7 speed derailleur can not hold a candle whatsoever to a mid mount motor with a 12 speed derailleur, there is no comparison, seriously, I own both bikes…

Keep in mind that with the motorcycle you need a trailer to haul it too. Your van's gas mileage goes down and you're unable to reach half the campsites you have been to in the past🤔 I'm 65 and, on my ebike (Fuel Exe 9.7), I'd climb up that road with a smile. Max motor output is just 300W, but weight is 40 lbs, tires 29x2.5", ground clearance 13.5", cassette 12speed 10-51T and chainring 32T. There is something called power-to-weight ratio and if you're able to add 300W yourself, pick a good line, keep pedaling 50+ RPM and avoid pedal strikes you can go a long/steep way up😅

You can carry a fairly large motorcycle easily on a bumper carrier. I carry my Yamaha WR250R regularly on a rear bumper carrier behind my 04 Tundra. Over 350 lbs including carrier weight. Yamaha gets 70+ MPG and I put an aftermarket 3.5 gal Safari tank on it. 250 mile range on a single tank.

    • @endymion8672
      @endymion8672 ปีที่แล้ว

@@scottymac5174 It depends what roads you're driving. On pavement you'll be fine. Jason ruined his hitch rack with a 70 lbs ebike (check his video archive), the same thing happened to me. Two TH-camrs who had motorcycles on their hitch rack now have trailers: Dispersed Camper Man and AdventureVanMan.

I have been picking up numerous 1980s XT350 enduros. Old, simple. My state allows an antique plate on them so only one plate fee ever and no annual inspection if more than 25 yo. Big enough to go 60 mph, small enough to carry a few . TW200 would work as well if your in soft soil/sand areas. I call them "glorified mopeds" ..I do have 600/650s for serious riding

I don't understand your bike issues/hills: I've got a no-name rear hub e-bike, only 500w- and has no problem with the hills in the downtown core of Seattle. Just like a non-motorized, I just downshift to a lower gear....to max efficiency.

I used to have a Puch two stroke 50cc moped. I rode that poor thing everywhere. Front and rear suspension, lightweight. Street legal and you didn't need to have a motorcycle classification on your drivers licence.

The eBikes you've had just aren't very good. A real e-mtb would eat up that climb very easily and they are a blast to ride, but you would still have the recharging issue. It also seems to me you could use a more utility type vehicle vs one just for pure pleasure. A small motorcycle would fit the bill nicely. Others have mentioned the Yamaha TW200 and that would be a great option. It's easy to ride, street legal, simple engine/easy to work on, extremely reliable and it's like a tank - will get you into any backcountry you care to take it.

Kinda surprised you weren't able to take that hill. Yes it looked steep but I've seen many other reviews of 750w torque sensor fat bikes take hills on trails like that pretty easily. Look at this guy doing single track on a Cyrusher Ranger. He takes some pretty steep hills here.

These e-bikes are a half way point between standard mountain bikes and internal combustion dirt/dual sport bikes.
They have none of the advantages of either, and major disadvantages like range, power, and weight.
I would greatly prefer a standard mountain bike, and/or my Honda CRF300 Rally, both of which are lightweight, long range, and exceptionally capable on or off road.

I don't understand these electric bikes I have a cross Creed mountain bike I got for free unlimited power all you got to do is peddle it super light so if you're going up rough-terrain it's easy to push I know these electric bikes 60 pounds at least try to pushin that up a hill we need to stop using electric and just go back to regular old style ways much simpler much easier come on we don't need this crap making us lazier
